Antonio Candreva produces a goal and assist as Italy win at home against Finland. Alfred Finnbogason also collects a goal and assist as Iceland put four past Liechtenstein, whilst a rare rest for Robert Lewandowski sees Poland fail to find a way past Lithuania.

Italy 2 Finland 0

Antonio Candreva bagged a goal and assist as Italy secured a second successive win with a 2-0 home triumph over Finland.

After opening the scoring from the spot in the first half, the Lazio midfieler – who was stationed as a right wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation – teed up substitute Daniel de Rossi for Italy’s second. Priced at 7.5 in the Uefa game, Candreva produced three attempts on goal and as many key passes and is owned by just 1% of Fantasy managers so far.

Antonio Conte made six alterations from the side that beat Scotland 1-0 last week.

Aside from Candreva and the back three of Leonardo Bonucci, Andreas Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini, Sunderland’s Emmanuel Giaccherini was the only other player to retain his place. Priced at 5.0 and listed as a defender in the Uefa game, he’s now started each of the last four in midfield and shared corner kick duties with Candreva last night. Last night’s result heightens the appeal of the Italy defence, with Conte’s men arriving in France on the back of successive shut-outs.

Up front, Simone Zaza and Ciro Immobile failed to grasp their opportunities. The duo produced eight and three attempts respectively but their inability to find the net looks likely to allow Graziano Pelle and Eder the chance to lead the line in the group opener with Belgium.

Italy XI: Sirigu; Barzagli, Bonucci (Ogbonna 85), Chiellini; Candreva (Bernardeschi 76), Parolo, Motta (De Rossi 63), Giaccherini (Sturaro 64), El Shaarawy (Florenzi 69); Zaza (Pelle 81), Immobile

Poland 0 Lithuania 0

Robert Lewandowski was handed the night off as Poland failed to score for the first time in ten matches after stuttering to a goalless draw against visitors Lithuania.

Despite the absence of their top scorer, the home side still boasted a significant threat and fired 18 attempts on goal, though managed just a single shot on target.

Arkadiusz Milik (7.5 in Uefa) looked the most dangeorus for Adam Nawalka’s side. Typically utilised in the central support role, he was shifted up front as a result of Lewandowski’s omission and registered five efforts on goal. Wide men Jakub Blaszczykowski and Kamil Grosicki failed to impress and managed just one shot apiece.

At the back, Kamil Glik has now started each of the last six matches and, at 5.0, offers a reliable route into a defence that’s now chalked up three clean sheets in four. The 4.5-priced Jakub Wawrzyniak returned to the XI last night and has started two of the three matches since first-choice left-back Maciej Rybus was ruled out through injury.

Poland XI: Fabianski (Boruc 46); Kapustka, Glik (Salamon 46), Cionke, Wawrzyniak; Maczynski (Jodlowiec 46), Krychowiak; Blaszczykowski (Jedrzejczyk 74), Starzynski, Grosicki (Peszko 77); Milik

Iceland 4 Liechtenstein 0

It’s two wins in three now for Iceland after they bounced back from last week’s 3-2 loss in Norway with an emphatic 4-0 victory at home to Liechtenstein.

Alfred Finnbogason teed up striker partner Kolbeinn Sigthorsson for the opening goal before scoring his side’s third just before the break. Whilst the latter (7.0) looks a little more secure for minutes, Finnbogason – at just 5.5 – could be one to monitor for those in need of a budget striker. Veteran Eidar Gudjohnsen (6.0) emerged from the bench to notch but is likely to be mainly utilised as a sub during the tournament.

A first clean sheet in six attempts coincided with the return of Hannes Halldorsson between the posts. First-choice keeper during qualifying, he has recovered from injury and ended Ogmundur Kristinsson’s run of six straight starts over the friendlies – frustratingly, Halldorsson is the more expensive of the pair at 5.0 to 4.5. Elshewhere in defence, though, Sverrir Ingi Ingason is also priced at 4.5 and has started the last three at centre-half, scoring in each of the previous two matches. Right-back Birkir Saevarsson (5.0) was also in the goals, netting for the first time in 57 international appearances.

Iceland XI: Halldorsson; Saevarsson, Ingason, R Sigurdsson (Hermannsson 54), Skulason (Magnusson 87); Gudmundsson (Bjarnason 46), Gunnarsson, G Sigurdsson, Traustason (Hallfredsson 69); Sigthorsson (Sigurjonsson 79) Finnbogason (Gudjohnsen 46).

What do you think of my team?
    Patricio/Kozacik
    Juanfran/Pazdan/Rudiger/Denayer/Rami
    Alli/KDB/Junuzovic/Perisic/Forsberg
    Giroud/Lewandowski/Muller

My two main problems are whether to downgrade Forsberg for Rafa Silva and KDB to Gotze for more funds for the defence.

I would lose KDB and upgrade the defense, but it's a good team overall

Rami looks 80% nailed. We can see the lineups before the deadline though and just pick whichever one plays.

So Ingason has started in Iceland's last three games, scoring two goals in the process. UEFA haven't included him in their predicted XI and I'm wary that Iceland play late and I have no one to replace him with if he doesn't play. I can't see why he wouldn't play with that return, but something tells me he's not as sweet as he seems.

Dont risk it with Iceland players right away. I'd wait and see how they do against Portugal, and then get one for their easier games

I think he'd be first choice, Chelsea reportedly paying £40m and you can't bench a wonderful player like Morata. Maybe a Costa exit?

I wish pedro leaves. I cant stand him. That would be amazing, just need Naingollan to cover that mid and we should be okish. Also, our defense needs an overhaul

I can't stand pedro as well but he is a good back up to have. He cant be played first choice that's for sure!

Yeah , I think we need 2 midfielders like Radja and 1 CB and 2 WBs. Its going to be a busy transfer window. Hazard might be sold as well if he cannot play as a WB or as a midfielder.

I would love that defense overhaul. We desperately need it.

Pedro was one of the two most hated players for me prior to coming to Chelsea. Now he is number one.

Yes, I know. He played OOP at Vitesse because they were struggling for a CF. I still think he's fundamentally a winger though (and he plays like one too, looks lightweight for a CF really).

In pre-season , Traore looked out of his depths as a winger for me. I think his best position right now is as a secondary striker.

Most importantly , he is very young and as you say "at his age that's(position) not set in stone." which I agree with. It all depends on how his talents and physique develop. 🙂

Every time i saw him play for Vitesse he played moreon either wing in a 4-3-3.

According to him at the time this annoyed him as he saw himself as a CM or no.10!

With people suggesting that Rafa Silva won't get in the Portugal XI... Are there any other 4.5 mids that can warm my bench but start for their country?!

Also, the rest of my midfield is Grosicki, Alli, Mak, Naingolan... Would you be looking to get rid of any of these? Am I missing a beauty?

    @ Eden

Conte has history of playing 4-4-2/4-2-4 as well and it will require less drastic change than taking Chelsea to a 3-5-2.

Eden can happily play wide in that kind of structure if we have 2 solid CMs.

The common feature seems to be 2 strikers. Which will be kind of interesting. 🙂 Long time since we played that way, probably back to Hasselbaink & Gudjohnsson pre-Abramovich.

Might as well be 4-4-2. You never know. It all depends on the final squad we have by end of July. One thing special about Conte is his adaptability . I won't be surprised that he mixes his formations in the first 5-6 matches. He will choose a formation best suited to his squad. Hazard has made some bold statements about staying at Chelsea , so its safe to assume Conte must have a special plan to accommodate him in the starting XI however so it maybe .

      1. Ruth_NZ
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 9 months ago

Well, Hazard could play #10 in a 3-5-2. Cuadrado/Baba and Willian could conceivably play WB. Would be very attacking but might work if we have a rock-solid DM.

No place for Azpi in that system though. Probably none for JT either unless as a kind of sweeper.

        1. Eden Hazardous
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 9 months ago

          I think that's more likely.

          GK - Courtois

          The 3 CBs - Zouma - Ivan/Cahill/Terry- New CB

          The 2 WBs - Cuadrado/Willian and Baba/New WB

          CMs - Matic/Fabregas and 2 new CMs

Costa and a new striker up front with Hazard as #10. Oscar will be sold in that case.

          1. Ruth_NZ
            • 11 Years

Yeah, I fully expect Oscar to go. He has really disappointed at Chelsea.

Unlike you, I like Pedro a lot having seen him play live quite a few times now. Coming from having won loads of titles at Barca he could easily be a big-time Charlie. But he actually works really hard, has a great attitude, is very quick and makes dangerous runs. His quality is self-evident from his career history. So I hope he gets a place in Conte's system, maybe as 2nd striker or something.

Pedro's only position is as a striker cos the lad can't pass a football. Remember when he tried to dribble in our own half against West Brom..... one of the worst pieces of football for me...

Ivan against Spurs was pretty dreadful too. 🙁

I don't know. Sometimes you just like what you see in a player. I like what I see in Pedro.

Fair enough. I like what I see in Oscar similarly which you don't. But I know what you see in Pedro tho but I just don't like him . Maybe a good season under Conte will change my opinion. 🙂

Personally IMO Oscar is better than Pedro but Pedro is a better squad player to have in a 3-5-2 system as he can play as a WB or CF when and of needed.

It's tough to estimate which players respond well to Mourinho.. Not sure Pogba is one of those players, I'd imagine he'd want a bit more freedom than he'd be allowed under Mou but that's purely a guess.

I would have said the same for Ibra and he loves Mou..

I haven´t found any good 4.5 mids. Maybe uppgrade to 5.5 and downgrade somewhere. Maybe Martial, who is not a sure starter?

There are no good 4.5 mids, only bench fodder.

Martial is fighting with Payet and though we'll see which one plays the first game before the deadline, they could very easily share minutes 50:50 over the group stages. So my advice would be to downgrade Martial and upgrade R.Silva to one of the options in the 5.5-6.0 bracket: Stanciu, Forsberg, Mak, Joao Mario etc

Also, don't expect the Premier League version of Alli. He'd be a fantastic option in the No.10 role but he's not going to get that.

Cheers, I agree that Alli will probably be out of position and therefore disappointing but i'm English and therefore must have 3 England players and he is one of the best options. Call it blind faith but there's still a tiny part of me that reckons he will score 3+ this tournament.

If Martial isn't starting then I can easily change him out for Payet or whoever and he's in group A so i'm willing to take a risk

Fair enough mate, all your choices 🙂

But I'll just repeat the point about Martial and Payet: it might be a free change for the first game because we'll see the lineups but after that you're stuck with whichever you pick and they could easily share time for the remaining games. And then it costs you your only free transfer to drop them.

It's pretty obvious. Rami has played the two recent ones. Didn't play well against Cameroon, got a second chance and had a solid game against Scotland. Plus Mangala is a left sided CB like Koscielny.
