Euro 2016 gets underway this evening as France entertain Romania in Paris. Favourites to lift the trophy on home turf, Didier Deschamps’ side have been in fine scoring form of late – they’ve won all of their last four friendlies and found the net at least three times on each occasion.

Delving into the data, the underlying numbers bode well for the hosts – Les Bleus have fired 70 attempts on goal over their last four matches, a tally bettered only by Belgium amongst the 24 participants.

Deschamps’ thriving attack sit second for goals (13) and top for big chances (13), highlighting just why the likes of Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann, Dimitri Payet and Olivier Giroud are so highly fancied Fantasy assets against a defence that’s shipped six goals in their last three.

Romania, though, have also fared well in the final third and will be buoyed by the fact that France have conceded twice in four of their previous five friendlies.

Anghel Iorsanescu’s men are on a fine run that’s harvested just a single loss in 20 and they’ve netted eight times in the last couple of matches. Indeed, Romania sit third amongst the qualifiers for attempts on goal (67) over the previous four, though only 29 have arrived from inside the box.

With three goals to his name over the previous four, Nicolas Stanciu is likely to carry the visitors’ main chance of upsetting the odds tonight.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Is there anywhere I can see live passing stats for the game?
I'm playing a fantasy game where points are awarded for successful passes but they don't seem to be doing any live scoring, so I was wondering if I could track the points myself.

          Ben Arfa, Valbuena, Lacazette, Dembele...

            • 12 Years

Dembelé was probably left out because he hadn't had a full season of professional football yet and is still so young. Valbuena has been shocking since his injury and blackmail case.

But Ben Arfa and Lacazette, sure.

With Perrin the thing is that he was by many considered the best defender in Ligue 1 2014/2015, better than Thiago Silva, and even when Silva is in his monstrous form (like this season), most think he's the 2nd best defender there. Excellent with the ball too, not a clumsy donkey like Rami.

I doubt that. But something of the sort. Deschamps said he prefers that his players have played a lot of top matches, against big sides. As a result, he left pretty much all Ligue 1 players out, if they didn't play for PSG who play CL and EL, despite many of them having had excellent seasons.

Depends on what you're betting on, and how casual or obsessive you want to be. Simple bets like Croatia and Austria to get to the knockout stages are a good place to start.

Casual gamblers ( which make up about 99% of overall gamblers) put no effort in.
If you use stats and are disciplined then a return similar to a very good stock market investor can be achieved ( the 2 thought processes are very similar).

I rarely do these days but if you have some knowledge of less glamorous leagues you can get very decent odds.

Even then, to have it make you serious money you'll need to commit a fair amount to it as Gink says.

If you understand this then you have a chance :-

I have taken a look at BET365 Euro markets and have come up with the following:-
      To win outright:-
      France 3/1
      Germany 4/1
      Spain 5/1

IMO these are the only 3 teams that can win this thing
This gives combined odds of approximately 3/5 for any one of these to win which is no value in my book.
      However:-
      For a Germany / Spain final 11/1
      France/Spain final 12/1
      France/Germany final 14/1
      And now the anomaly
      France/Germany Straight forecast 16/1
      Germany/France Straight forecast 16/1
Using the anomaly to our advantage

For the more risk averse covering all these options using staking percentages of Germany/Spain 38% , France/Spain 35% and both Germany/France SF and France/Germany SF 13.5% gives combined odds of 3.56/1

Assuming that all teams win their groups then France/Germany cannot happen and so if you wish to be more of a gambler combined odds of France/Spain and Germany/Spain 5.24/1
