We conclude Sunday’s events with a floodlit clash between Germany and Ukraine in Group C.

Germany will undoubtedly be considered favourites to begin their campaign with a victory. However, question mark remains over Joachim Löw’s side in a number of positions and their form on arrival in France is far from convincing. Defeats to England and Slovakia in pre-tournament friendlies has raised doubts in the German camp.

Their opponents will head into the contest with some confidence. Ukraine have won nine of their last 13 outings, with victories in their last four. A 1-0 reverse at the hands of Spain has been their only setback in this impressive spell.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Whether that is any good or not depends on who you still have to play (and how many points you have to remove to sub players in).

It's like a shock of cold water waking up and hearing this story after being in New York for the Pride festivities, that despite all those who are accepting and tolerant there are still those who hate to the point of violence.

As depressed as this story is making me, I still think about how accepting the majority is in America, thinking of all those in New York and around the country celebrating Pride, and those hundreds willing to give blood to the victims. No matter how much you lose faith in humanity through the act of one hateful person, there is still hope.

RIP to all those that died, and I hope all those injured recover.

Awesome to hear! You're studying Finance, right?

I'm good thanks, got exams coming up then an internship over the break 🙂

Haha fair enough! I managed to finish 348th, was pretty happy to get into 3 figures after narrowly missing out last season.

Playing Euro Fantasy for a bit of fun and then look forward to the PL season again 🙂 You planning on playing next season?

Great to hear bud, best time of the year eh 😉 Is that your third year of uni now?

Oh shiieet, that's amazing 😯 & to think most of FFS was in the 5 digit mark in January. Great stuff.

Definitely mate, should be a great season with Pep & Mou at Man U. Hopefully we'll see some consistent top-tier football played by the traditional top 6 to make the matches worthwhile.

Haha cheers! Was definitely a rollercoaster ride but as usual for FPL, enjoyed every minute of it!

Indeed. Some great managers in the PL now and it'll certainly be a very interesting season!

Nice 🙂 Gotta love the thrill of an underdog season.

Yup, yup. Looking forward to Pep's Man City & who's ageing out of the squad, & what Klopp makes of a full-training this off-season!

Yep 🙂 So one in the winter break (which is in about a month after exams) and then three over the summer holidays (Dec/Jan/Feb for us Aussies 😀 ). Looking forward to them!

                  Ah awesome 🙂

Indeed, I'm also particularly looking forward to seeing how Leicester fare. Obviously it'll depend on who they keep out of their big three and some of their other important players but it'll be interesting to see how UCL commitments affect them 🙂

Ah that too, I heard rumblings about Mahrez & Vardy going elsewhere. What a shame that'd be 🙁 Can't see how they'd fair well without those two against the big boys.

Yup. Huge Vardy to Arsenal talks but they seem to have settled now, I think it's up to Vardy whether he wants to go or not. As for Mahrez I haven't heard anything too concrete. But would be surprised if neither of them + Kante left

I think Vardy is realising that his career prospects are better at Leicester. In addition to which they have wealthy owners plus an additional £35m or more CL money to play with and can afford to give him a big pay deal. I think he'll stay.

Thanks Nick - who do you support? It would quite something if we could get out of the Champions League group - that's probably the bst we could ask for. As for the Premier League, I'd expect something like 6th to 9th, no better. We won't sign any "big" stars whatever happens ... I don't even think they'd want to come anyway. It will be a tough season.

Kante is the one I think they will lose. He's a class above the other two and will get a CL club where he'll be 1st choice.

And yes, definitely somewhere around mid-table is expected. Assuming Ranieri prioritises CL, it'll be interesting to see how he manages his squad for PL as none of the squad will be used to playing 3 games in the space of a week

after the first few gamedays it becomes more apparent defenders are the most reliable points getters. Sure, other positions offer bigger points tallies but I have 30 points from defenders and goalies with 2 still to play. my aim was always to play 3 4 3 and get 24 pts from defenders but my team will probably end up 5 3 2.
I am going to have a major rethink on the wildcard upgrading defenders and downgrading mids.

    1. fitzy

I think it matters more that you have defenders from the better defensive teams than having the big hitter defenders like Ramos.

It is the "safe" option, but defenders' rewards are limited (unless you are lucky and they score goals), but players like Payet show that with the right attacking midfielders you can get really good scores....

      1. Eze Really?
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 10 months ago

You cannot ignore the Payets of this world and they will remain in my side. But is a Silva, KDB type of player worth the money over strength at the back and opposition standards?

          • 9 Years
          9 years, 10 months ago

It is certainly a risk... but with high risks you get high rewards... Silva, KDB could get you 2 points or 16 points...

Your post is self-contradictory. If your defenders are doing so well why do you need to spend more on them?

        • 11 Years

I don't think so. I will concentrate on fixtures.
I have Sommer, Lichsteiner, Pazdan and maybe Dragovic to go. Fixtures got me the points.

So? Ukrainian defenders aren't expensive. Croatian defenders aren't expensive. Rami is 5.0. Why do you need to spend more?

In any case, unless wildcarding before the next round you only have one transfer to make. 😕

              "...upgrading defenders and downgrading mids..."

              That's not about spending more?

Let's say you play fixtures for the next round. OK, 2 x Ukraine v N. Ireland - Rakitskiy and Fedetskiy 5.0 each. France v Albania - Rami 5.0. Switzerland v Romania - Schär 5.5 or Djourou 5.0. Croatia v Czech - Strinic 4.0 or Vrsaljko 4.5. Sorted.

hey guys, couple of sub questions

    1) Should I bring on Rafa Silva for Muller(2 points)?
    2) Should I bring on Denayer for Perisic (3 points)?
    3) If I do one sub (Juan fran for Vrsalijko done already) does this mean no automatic subs will happen?

    Thanks in advance

Who should get the arm band? Juanfran

Ramos. He can go big with a CS + a goal.

fabregas could have limited playing time (Thiago/Koke could come in 2nd half)

Alright, Muller failed me as captain (and I didnt know I could have different captains on the other days!)

    So now I have chosen

    KDB over Denayer
    and tomorrow
    Alaba as a back up

    sound half decent?

I don't have any Day 5 players to captain, so who is the safer pick of KDB and Nolito?

Seems like everybodys thinking the same. I am leaning towards Nolito because he has an easier game. But I will surely look at the lineups before I decide.

Problem is I would have to wake up at 5 am which isn't gonna happen

Then I would go with KDB for safety, 🙂

But KDB is safer if you don´t check the lineups. Nolito isn´t as nailed on as KDB

Who would you captain (if they play, the spanish I will check the lineups for) today?

    A) Nolito
    B) Alba
    C) KDB

Can you change the formation when making subs? Each time I try to make a sub it fails an says it hasn't updated...

    Please help! 🙂

Is it worth subbing Rui Pat on for Kovacik (3pts)?

Is it worth subbing on Alaba for Alli (2pts)?

Is it worth subbing Ciman on for Rami (2pts)?

I'm swaying towards: Yes Yes No

I would say yes, yes and yes. But wait with #2 until tomorrw. Do Rami -> Ciman today. If Ciman gets 0 or 1 do Ciman -> Alaba tomorrow.
