Dugout Discussion – Spain vs Czech Republic

Monday’s matches begin with the current European Championship holders opening their bid to retain the crown as Spain face the Czech Republic in the afternoon kick-off.

Vicente del Bosque’s side will be defending a proud record which has seen them keep a clean sheet in their last nine tournament matches, a spell which spans 510 minutes. They go to France in strong form but having suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Georgia in their previous “warm-up” encounter, their first defeat in 12 matches.

That setback will offer the Czech Republic a glimmer of hope ahead of today’s meeting. Pavel Vrba’s side aren’t fancied to make it to the knockout stages, despite winning their qualifying group. Their poor defensive record is cited as the main concern – the Czech Republic shipped 14 goals, more than any other qualifying nation. They head into the tournament having lost their previous friendly to South Korea but sneaked a 1-0 win over Russia earlier this month.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Can someone tell me, who has missed the most epl penalties? And where you got the stat from?

Trying this for a while now, cant get a definitive answer. Think it might be Rooney or maybe Gerard. Thanks

Very out of date. Gerard has taken at least 31 penalties. Thanks anyway

Gerrard has missed 9 (seems like that would make him top) http://lfcstats.co.uk/premiermissedpenalties.html

As far as I can tell Rooney has missed 8 http://www.sportsjoe.ie/football/stats-wayne-rooneys-record-from-the-penalty-spot-is-a-lot-worse-than-you-might-think/18746

Captained Cesc... Probably should have went Juanfran. Now I'm stuck with a choice between 6 points from Cesc or gamble on Janko who's a doubt?

Cesc Fabregas' game by numbers vs. #CZE:

    0 crosses completed
    0 chances created
    0 take-ons
    0 shots

All the ball, no end product.

Nothing special like the rest of the attackers. Lost the ball quite a few times, but it's his job to take on defenders so not too bad.
