Dugout Discussion – Portugal vs Austria

Saturday’s events end with a collision between two sides scrapping for a Euro 16 foothold.

Austria arrived in France with a laudable record in qualifying and were considered a darkhorse. But Marcel Koller’s men were found wanting in their opening fixture, frustrated and eventually overwhelmed by the Hungarians.

That 2-0 defeat means that tonight’s meeting with Portugal is now more vital than ever.

Fernando Santos’ side are also in dire need of the victory.

They were unable to overcome an Icelandic barrier to earn victory in their opening group encounter and now found themselves on the back foot. Defeat to Austria would swing the group wide open, leading to a dramatic final round of matches later this week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

          Thinking about Juanfran --> Vertonghen, thoughts?

          Already have Höwedes as German cover, defenders seem to be of much more value, Sweden hasn't had a shot on target this whole tournament, Juanfran is a major rotation risk and all of my ML rivals have a Belgian defender.

          Or would you still double up on German defence?

          Or maybe even swap Giroud for Nani/Milik? (if he won't play)

          Bearing in mind that the most successful players in the league stages have been the goal scoring defenders. Screw replacing Giroud he can sit on the bench most likely. I think I will use my FT to nail down a defender with potential and hope

                Yeah exactly... But, why would Bonucci be rested? Their defensive line is rock solid, and they can win the group... The coach described BBC+Buffon as his Messi yesterday.

                At the moment in considering a -4 for Morata and Kane OUT. Iniesta is the heartbeat of Spain, I'd imagine he will play every game.

              Ozil, kroos, iniesta and perisic should be nailed as they chace 1. Place. You'll se if Giroud starts in line up tomorrow. He prob doesn't. Also think Bonucci could be threatened as Italy look to rest and him risking suspension.
