The Euro 2016 group stages now come to their conclusion this evening as Group E treats us to two final matches before the knockout Round of 16 gets underway on Saturday.

Group E winners Italy already know their fate.

Having won their first couple of fixtures, The Azzurri will battle Spain for a place in the last eight after the defending champions threw away a one-goal lead against Croatia last night.

With five regulars just one caution shy of a ban, there’s no surprise that Antonio Conte has made numerous alterations to his XI for the clash against the Republic of Ireland.

Martin O’Neill’s men are hoping to upset the odds and register a shock win to seal a place in the next stage, though they are clearly up against it here – the Italians have racked up back-to-back shut-outs and allowed their opponents just six shots inside the box, whilst Ireland have managed a mere four attempts on target.

Belgium and Sweden square up in the other fixture.

Marc Wilmots’ men bounced back from their opening loss to Italy with a resounding 3-0 win over Ireland and need only a draw to seal second place. Such a scenario would see them face the winners of Group F, Hungary, in the next round.

Given that the Swedes have yet to register a single attempt on target, The Red Devils look strong favourites to clinch a spot in the knockouts and send Zlatan Ibrahimovic and co. home early.

Belgium and Croatia like likely to win their quarters of the draw. The other half looks completely unpredictable. I'm taking three Belgians and two Croats I think for this week.

Why not but if you have no WC you can kiss the game goodbye if things go against you.

I've got a wildcard 😀 I thought I'll save it and play risky, then when a risk doesn't pay off, use it and play safe.

Having a WC makes all the difference in your decision.

I disagree, the other half apart from spain v italy is a little easier to predict

Belgium are a weird team, I wouldn't be suprised to see them go out to Hungary to be honest as Hungary will take the fight to them and not just sit back and defend like sweden and ireland did

Croatia v portugal is tough to call, croatia may have just had their best moment v spain and everyone is now expecting them to win whilst portugal have ronaldo back in form. Croatia have shown they have some problems at the back and I really think ronaldo and co can exploit this.

For me, I am going with the likes of the Germans, English and possibly the welsh

          Meunier Evra Hector Taylor Dier

          Payet Perisic Hazard Iniesta Ozil

          Lukaku Gomez Morata

I know this website is for people that generally know what they are doing but, just in case there are any other halfwits like me on here that didn't read the rules:

    1. There is now an extra 5mil in your budget
    2. You may need to log out and back in again to get access to the 5mil
    3. You can make unlimited changes until the next deadline

    First post-group draft:

    Subasic (1) | Hart (3)
    Srna (1) | Rami (2) | Hector (2) | Meunier (2) | Giaccherini (3)
    Błaszczykowski (1) | Perisic (1) | Payet (C2) | Kroos (2) | De Bruyne (2)
    Bale (C1) | Lukaku (2) | Morata (C3)

Not sure about Kroos. Other than that I'm happy. Thinking perhaps getting Muller back might be my best route into Germany. He hasn't scored, but he's been very close.

Heroes that will stay in your side from group stages?

Don't think I can get rid of Dier + Perisic. I've also liked owning Morata although up against an Italian side I'm not so sure about that.

Giaccherini will be coming in for sure.

Think it's entirely possible the way Italy will be set up.

Plus he's out of position so to me it's worth a shot. I'm not going to put much more thought into it than he's an out of position defender playing for Italy really 🙂

      b) morata > lukaku (but i was thinking of morata as third day captain)
      c) griezmann > muller (but i would be with 3 german players, seems risky)
      d) wasting 0.5M (but i hate waste. somebody help)

Seen a few criticisms of Ronnie/Bale combo given they play on the same day so you can't captain both.

Nonsense argument - if Wales and Portugal both go through, they play on separate days in the Quarter Finals vs Belgium (who Bale scored against in qualifying) and Switzerland or Poland, who you fancy Ronnie bagging against.

You can only make 4 subs in the QFs so why not load up now with Perisic as a Ronnie hedge?

How many transfers after this round? Is there another WC? Plus what happens if a game goes to extra time - do you get say the 6 points for your defender if he has a clean sheet til then?

    1. McQueen
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

I believe 4 free transfers and you have to have a CS until penalty shootouts to claim a CS points. So 120 min. So no more WC if you already used one.

Having already played my wildcard. If for whatever reason I have a stinker this round, with some underdogs winning, then I'm probably going to focus on a strong 11 with my 4 free transfers. Making sure I have 4 excellent captains. Sack off the substitutions

All we know is that Ramos took the last one but took it badly and it cost Spain the group win.

I think, generally, that leaving a penalty to any sort of defender/defensive midfielder is a waste. A pen should be taken by a true goalscorer in every case.

Not really. I used to play right back and I was very good at penalties. Plenty of proper examples of good penalty taking defenders too: Leighton Baines, Graham Alexander, Stuart Pearce, Ronald Koeman...

You missed the example of all examples.

            Dennis Irwin.

            God I loved that man.

    a) Morata
    b) the cheaper Nolito
    c) a spanish defender (maybe the cheap Juanfran?)
    d) a italian player (Candreva perhaps?)
    e) somebody from crazy England
    f) some viking dude
