The first semi-final of Euro 2016 was decided by two quick second-half goals as Portugal shut down Wales with relative ease and a slice of luck.

Portugal 2 Wales 0

Those two goals in three minutes put paid to a passive Wales side desperately missing the energy and creativity of the suspended Aaron Ramsey.

After one of the dullest first halves of a less than free-wheeling tournament, Cristiano Ronaldo (12.0) broke the deadlock with a header from fit-again Raphael Guerreiro’s (4.0) cross.

The most popular pick in our daily Captain Poll, with 49.13% votes , the Real Madrid star then set up the killer second goal when his mishit shot fell to strike partner Nani (7.5), who steered it home.

The scoreline was a tad harsh on the Welsh, but they never looked like clawing back the deficit. Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio (5.0) was rarely troubled, with little more to do than see off speculative shots from Gareth Bale.

Bale and Ronaldo dominated the attacking stats for their teams, firing in five and nine attempts respectively, and the former also returned match-high figures for chances created (two) and crosses (six) for good DraftKings returns.

In terms of goal threat, the Welsh were out-shot by 18 attempts to nine by their opponents and did precious little with the 56.4% possession they were given by a deep-lying Portugal, who kept a clean sheet despite the absence of one of their best performers of Euro 2016, Pepe (5.5).

His replacement, Bruno Alves (5.0), was barely tested by Wales but still managed to pick up a yellow card. The 30% of official Uefa game managers with Pepe in their teams will hope he’s fit for Sunday’s final, while full-back Guerreiro and Cedric Soares (4.5) remain considerably more productive DraftKings selections.

Nani has proved an excellent budget option up front. He now has 27 points for the tournament – just five shy of Ronaldo – and has as many goals (three) as his illustrious team-mate from 24 fewer attempts.

Ronaldo offers a huge threat in the air but is no longer the all-round threat he once was, having completed just three successful dribbles all tournament – Bale managed 22.

Just over half of Uefa managers saw midfielder Renato Sanches show promise but little else against Wales, though as his opener against Poland showed last time out, the new Bayern man remains excellent value for a price of just 4.4.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Semi- final Day 2 changes

How did Day 1 go? Lots of happy Ronaldo captainers and unhappy Bale armbanders I expect.

If your captain blanked yesterday who is your captain today?

And which players are you hoping to get a big score from in what is on paper a potentially tough game to call?

Happy Ronaldo captainer and triple Portuguese defence here. Anything else from by six remaining players tonight is a bonus.

Pretty much the same here except I had 4 Portuguese defenders (Including goalie)

Who would you bench out of Giroud and Kroos?

I already have Ozil, Draxler,Griezmann, Payet and Pogba

I quadrupled on the Portuguese at the back (Patricio included), armbanded Cris, and it paid off. so far. moved 4 places up.

now I have a dilemma - keep 3pt Sanches or go for either Kroos or Hector.

I owned Ronaldo(c) and 4 Portuguese defenders including Guerreiro 😎

Although my 6th Portuguese player , Sanches blanked. So my only sub for today is Sanches > Rami

Nice I did something similar. 4 Portuguese defenders and (C) Ronaldo.

Having a bench dilemma today though...

          1 Draxler
          2 Kroos
          3 Ozil
          4 Payet
          5 Pogba
          6 Rami
          7 Hector
          8 Giroud
          9 Griezemann
          10 Lloris

          Need to bench 4.....

Thinking Hector, Rami, Lloris and one of Kroos or Girioud..

the same here, but isn't it wiser/safer to keep those 3 pts than expect the Germans to blank too?

in the end it's just 1-2 points you're risking, but I'm chasing a rival who's 2 pts ahead.

I'm substituting Meunier and Glik for Parolo and Giaccherini.
Also changing captain from Bale to a certain Frenchman.

Ronaldo(C) & Triple Portugese defense. I am happy that I have benching dilemma. I hope Pogba goes big as he's differential for me.

Owned Cr7 (c), Nani, Patricio, Guererro, Fonte and Cedric.
Enough for a md6 rank of 34. OR shot to pieces before.
Probably the best fantasy day I've ever had and I've done fantasy games since the late 80's, will probably never happen again.

Now I have to decide which 3 to bench out of Boateng, Kos, Götze, Draxler, Matuidi, Özil, Payet and Griezman. Wont be one of the last 3 though.
Would love to get to that md6 nr1 spot.

I think Gotze, Matuidi and one of Boateng / Kos.

I'd bench Matuidi, Draxler and Boat / Kosc.

My decision is between Sanches, Giroud, Pogba, Hector and Kroos.

      RuiP: 7pts
      Cedric : 6
      Fonte: 6
      Taylor: (1)
      Mario: (1)
      Sanches: 3
      Bale: (1)
      Ronaldo (C): 16

      38pts (43)

      Hector , Sagna , Payet , Ozil , Gotze , Griezmann

      Really well for me (Finally)

      Scored 44 points

Took a gamble on 4 Portugal defenders as I thought Wales might be toothless without Ramsey so they were the best chance of clean sheet points.

      Patricio (7) Fonte (6) Cedric (6) Guerro (9)

      and then (C) Ronaldo (16)

Main problem now is who do I bench out of the following??

      1 Draxler
      2 Kroos
      3 Ozil
      4 Payet
      5 Pogba
      6 Rami
      7 Hector
      8 Giroud
      9 Griezemann
      10 Lloris

      Need to bench 4.....

Similar story to a lot - 3 Portugal defenders including Guerrerio. Ronaldo (c)

Easy enough transfers - Chester, Bale and Sanches out - Boateng, Griezmann and Hector in.

      my side is

      henn ( 2 ) , boatang , fonte ( 6 ) , kos , Taylor ( 1 ) , Mario ( 3 ) , Payet Sanches ( 3 ) , Bale ( 1 ) , Griezmann and Ronaldo ( 16 C )

      Lloris , Hector , Kross , Ozil

any ideas on what i should do i think my best option is to go 442 and leave ozil on the bench i have 21 point lead in my league with my closest friend losing 1 points with changes if i make the changes i said iwould be 18 points ahead before kick off

Funny thing about it though, is that the day before you're offered a job/interview, it feels like it's been going on for years and it'll never end, and then the day AFTER the offer, it all feels like it's only been a week.

I wouldn't know 😉 I'm not sure whether I'm playing this year, waiting to see the format before deciding. I really want to find a reason not to bother so I can just enjoy the football as I did at the end of last season but it's such a hard habit to break

We are behind by 6. I haven't looked that closely but I think we each have one player who will change captain.

He is set up for Greizmann by the looks of things.

I think we may have reached the end of the road tbh. I think they have more players left to play as well

Well I guess if yo are doing it for the team. Someone other than Griezmann may help.

You could do the opposite and captain a German defender maybe then a non scoring France would see a big swing to us

Not a chance he's taking Dier's place. Let's be honest...

Think of him as an indirect replacement for Ryan Mason.

We signed him for £11m. Not a huge amount these days.

When Spurs have a full squad to pick from, he will be backup to Mousa & Eric.

Just the player. Southampton are a bit wary of redmond, but I think he can do well. We had bale who was a one trick pony then became a superstar. Mahrez was seen as ok but just went bananas. So I guess it will be someone young who will take their game to the next level.

I seriously think he can take his game to the next level this season. Southampton's goal next season will be (at least imo) to integrate their talented youth (Reed , JWP, Redmond , etc.) into the first XI and I think he may become England's new 'Sterling' status player who hopefully is loved more~!

Shooting and tracking back are his weak spots. I can't honestly think of a more accurate crosser of the ball in the Prem right now. He's an assist machine ready to explode as long as he gets his chance. Therin lies the problem, successive managers haven't fancied him, hopefully Koeman can get the best out of him.
