A double from Antoine Griezmann against Germany put the hosts into the final of Euro 2016 following a high quality encounter in Marseille.

France 2 Germany 0

Germany dominated possession but France took the spoils courtesy of a superlative display from Griezmann.

French coach Didier Deschamps rolled the dice and picked the same side that had steamrollered Iceland, giving the Atletico Madrid striker the central role he craves. The gamble paid off – tucked in behind Olivier Giroud in a 4-2-3-1, Griezmann (10.0) scored twice from a match-leading seven attempts, with two key passes and five crosses also registered against the World Champions.

France started brightly but faded rapidly, allowing Germany possession and territory but denying them a clear sight of goal.

As half-time approached, however, the match swung back to the French. Bastian Schweinsteiger led with his arm as a corner came in and was penalised for handball, allowing Griezmann to tuck away the spot-kick.

It was harsh on the Germans, who had 11 attempts to the hosts’ five in the first period, but after repelling a similar surge at the start of the second half, Joachim Low’s men laboured to break down a well-organised French defence in which Laurent Koscielny (6.0) and Samuel Umtiti (4.0) were superb, with 26 clearances, blocks and interceptions (CBI) between them.

The latter will surely start in the final and at that price is an excellent ultimate budget enabler.

As Germany pushed for an equaliser, their own defence became increasingly stretched, and errors from Joshua Kimmich and then Manuel Neuer handed Griezmann the chance to stab home a second goal.

Despite having less than 31% of the ball, the French managed 16 attempts to their opponent’s 18 and had one more shot on target, (six to five), although Hugo Lloris (6.0) had to make two outstanding saves to deny the Germans.

Home advantage, an injury-free squad and a system that has made Griezmann the tournament’s top scorer with six goals means France will go into Sunday’s final as massive favourites.

Pressure and Portuguese resilience could still be decisive, but it is hard not to think that packing both official Uefa game and DraftKings teams with French players will be the way forward.

Man do I miss Boojum. Used to treat myself to lunch there way too often! I used to get almost the same bowl. Ahh those were good days. I've tried 4 or 5 different burrito places in Edinburgh but they don't come close to Boojum.

There was one place at the top of Capel street called "The Hungry Mexican" that did Chimichangas that rivaled Boojum's burritos. It was a blessed period of time, but they have since moved to an unknown location or closed 🙁 out of nowhere!

So I sent them the following email:

Good afternoon, fine people of the Hungry Mexican establishment,

It is with a great sense of responsibility for the welfare of those around me, that I feel absolutely compelled to write to you.

Yours was THE most appetising, satisfying and downright rewarding provider of Mexican delicacies that any of us had ever had the pleasure of frequenting.

Or at least that was the case, until that fateful day..
The day the Hungry Mexican packed up its belongings while we were busy at work, removed all traces of the rich history we shared, leaving a hole in our hearts, and in our stomachs.
I don’t think I need to go into detail as to how devastated we all were when, already dreaming of embracing your legendary chimichangas, we made the sacred 10 minute pilgrimage to your door, only to find it shut.
It was most certainly a low point in my Mexican eating career, a blow I did not think I would recover from.

However, if you were willing to reconsider (or if your new place of residence is within a reasonable walking distance), I’m sure that the passion between us could be reignited once more.
Please, Hungry Mexican, don’t leave us chimichanga-less. It’s a fate no man deserves.
We can make this work, if we try.

          Yours faithfully,
          Shane “Habanero” Grif

(Ps. Just wondering where you guys are now, we’re starving.)

No disrespect to them, but only 3 slots with Ronaldo occupying 1 for sure. Then you have to contend with Messi/Griezmann(ifFranceWin) / Suarez (ridiculous no. of goals).

Aguero won nothing. Ibra mickey-mouse league as IM says 😉 Pogba for the young player award maybe, Snodgrass might have a say in this though.

I agree, and I don't think he deserves it based on his RM season. Modric, Kroos and Bale all had better seasons and contributed more to the CL trophy.
But, if Portugal win the Euros, Ronaldo deserves the award. He scores goals when it matters and he is the best poacher in the world.

Sorry, no, Kroos didn't carry the team, but neither did Ronaldo (Modric did really).
We were lucky to get to the CL final but the only CL game Ronaldo turned it on for was the return leg v Wolfsburg.
Ask any Madrid fan and they'd agree that Ronaldo was patchy this season and scored his goals in bursts (hattricks etc) against pretty weak opposition.

HC is right when he says that Ronnie has become much more of a poacher. Still an incredible number of goals, but the stats flatter to deceive.

I really dont understand how someone can undermine a player who scored 50+ goals in a single season. However his goals come. Just baffles me.

I suppose I'm comparing Ronaldo to Ronaldo..

                      But he has scored:
                      - 8 goals vs Espanyol.
                      - 6 goals vs Malmo.
                      - 5 goals vs Celta Vigo.
                      - 5 goals vs Shakhtar.
                      - 3 goals v Wolfsburg.

He had a tendency to go crazy against mediocre defences as he could put away some of the hundreds of chances created for him, but against good opposition he didn't score that many. 51 goals is not representative of how he played throughout the season.

Doing pretty well at the Fantasy Euro game. Currently ranked 2031 with 348 points. However, leading my cash league by ONE point off of two people.

Does anybody else see that there are no good options in midfield apart from Pogba and Payet? I'm really struggling to pick a third. Renato will be my third mid for blocking reasons. However, while other players go for Matuidi for example in a three man midfield, isn't getting in an extra French defender more logical as a source of points?

This would condone 4-3-3 as follows

    Lloris
    Sagna - Kosc - Guerrero - Evra
    Pogba- Payet- Renato
    Giroud - Cristiano - Griez
