Our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, continues this evening with an assessment of Everton.

To get underway, we cast an eye over the Toffees’ team data, comparing them to the rest of the top-flight, before analysing their first-team squad, key goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the season ahead.

The Merseysiders will, of course, have a new man in charge after Ronald Koeman replaced Roberto Martinez in the hotseat. Everton finished in eleventh spot in each of the Spaniard’s final two campaigns at the helm, accruing 47 points on both occasions, though a drop in resilience saw them concede 55 times in 2015/16 – a defensive record only better than the bottom five.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

The team that beat Brendan Rodgers' Celtic tonight in a Champs League qualifier. They're a semi-professional club side from Gibraltar.

I'm sure at this stage (even before the prices are released) we have a few players in mind that we want to build the core of our team around.

For me it's Sanchez, Mane, Aguero. These literally won't be moving from my thinking.

Every other position is flexible though I would love to get Baines, Lukaku and one of Chelsea/ United defence.

    How about you guys?

I honestly have nobody. It is starting to worry me as normally I have people in mind.

This season I just have it in my head everyone is going to cost a lot so it kind of puts me off

Mate your data for 13/14 is wrong. Just look at the number you have for Costa's goals per match and you'll realise it can't be right.

There's mistakes on some colour coding I need to go over

                As for Costa 13/14
La liga, 12 games, 1000 mins. 27 goals. Acc to Squawka.

Might be something wrong with La Liga 13/14 on squawka, who are usually reliable.

They obviously missed a striker, but brilliant otherwise. Dominated France, and lost due to strange individual errors.

Shortlist for premium mids looking something like this. Reckon I can get 2/3 of these in, dependent on prices.

    Mkhi
    De Bruyne
    Mahrez
    Mané
    Tadic
    Firmino
    Hazard
    Sanchez
    Payet

Will be very tough to select a limited number. Hoping this season will offer a little more variety and risk than last year.

Really? I'm backing Mané to do very well next season. Klopp's biggest signing so he should start, whilst with Coutinho and Firmino around him he should get great service.

Up to now though he hasn't been a go to midfielder. And for me that's what being a premium midfielder is. Could he have a good season yeah of course but I don't rate him premium. The way pricing comes out the chances are owning some 8.0-9.0 midfielder is going to be tough when squeezing the real big tickets in.

He had quite a few kicks at the end of last season, i'm not sure he nicks them off Cabaye. And anyway there's absolutely no chance I will watch Palace and be rooting for Townsend over Bolasie. I don't care how many pts he scores.

Not a fan of Bolasie, prefer Mkhi to Sanchez (only just though). Eriksen and Siggy could be great shouts, although equally both can fade.

This is proper box office stuff now though.

For me United crying out for a no.8 still.

Whether it's Pogba or someone else they need someone dynamic to link the play but that can also do it going towards their own net. I think then your possibly looking a title challengers.

With their current squad, 3rd should be their aim, if they get another good creative attacker to compliment Mkhitaryan then they can start to think of aiming higher. As it is with their squad, shut down Mkhi and you'll shut down their major supply line.

Ozil above KDB is very weird call.

            Taking them 4 I'd say

            KDB
            Ozil
            Mkhi
            Payet

                KDB scores more goals.

Keep in mind KDB had Bas Dost in front of him for 14/15 season.

And was injured for much of last season at a new club

That he does, but that wasn't the basis of my ranking.

True he played less minutes than Ozil, but Ozil still smoked him for assists per 90 and Ozil was assisting Giroud while KdB was assisting Aguero.

^ Top 4 creative players in the league. West Ham can be shut down in open play if you shut down Payet and Man U will be like that if you can shut down Mkhi. Ozil and De Bruyne are both very good but their teams also benefit from Cazorla, Sanchez and Silva acting as strong second prongs of attack which makes the teams harder to defend against.

Have they? Ibrahimović for free, Mkhitaryan's price was reasonable (some may call it a bargain) and Bally's 40m price tag includes some additional bonuses. Money spent wisely so far and Mourinho had plenty of time to prepare properly. I'm optimistic, although unlike some over-optimistic fans, I'll be satisfied with a top 4 finish.

McIlroy is hard to stick, and I'm saying that coming from the North but then again I identify as Irish when I suppose he doesn't.

I agree with his comments in the open press conference, I don't think it should be in the Olympics and it's more than just him all of the top dogs have ducked it and from and Irish perspective even Shane Lowry.

I disagree with how he's gone about it. It'd have been very refreshing for him to have said all this as a reason for pulling out then id take my hat really off to him. Olympics is no draw to him and I can see why, it's means nothing to him.

Tennis is an Olympic sport too though and it means a lot to them to represent their countries, even though it's not a typical 'Olympic sport'. An Olympic medal is a huge achievement to any sportsperson. It's besides the point arguing for and against golf at the Olympics. It's there for now anyway and he said he would go and then pu$$ied out. If there was big prize money going he'd be all over it though.

The rest pussied out too then Shane Lowry included. Maybe the prize money isn't big enough for him either. Maybe he doesn't want to play for his country. Or maybe he just wants to play his majors and PGA Tour events? It means nothing to these guys imo.

I'm not saying an Olympic medal isn't a fantastic achievement, far from it. Amazing. But it isn't golf. For me tennis, football etc none of that stuff should be in the Olympics for me personally.

                    I know what you're saying.

I agree with that too. It should be left to the sports where the Olympics is their biggest event. Leaving the professional boxers in this year is a disgrace too IMO. Many of the amateurs remained so in order to compete at the Olympics and now the professionals come along and get the best-of-both-worlds.

On a serious note, he is a fantastic footballer and under Mourinho he should emerge as one of the best playmakers in the league. It was intended to be a 4-4-2, but if 5.5 (hopefully Abel Hernandez) does well, I think I'd play a 4-3-3.

      Don't like a 6m and a 5.5m striker.

I'd say downgrade one 6m defender and pick 1 premium mid.

Thanks to Balders for correctly identifying some errors in 13/14 data. It seems as if Sqauwka have some issues getting players' full minutes for that season. As a result of this, I've taken my spreadsheet down to adjust and double check all the numbers with a different stat provider and calculate it myself. I'll be back with more rankings soon.. goodnight. 🙂

What's everyone make of this Jansen? 27 goals for AZ last season seems very impressive, even considering its Dutch league

Luuk De Jong got 26 last season as well, so his 27 means nothing.

Could be good in real terms, but in FPL terms he's not getting good game time with Kane fit.

    2. Däzzy
      • 10 Years

Now too cheap for a 4 man defence.
Downgrade 6 to a 5.5 leaving you with two premium 5.5 defenders to play week in week out. Have the rest @4.5 and do a three way rotation.
That leaves you with 1mil in the bank to upgrade one 4.5 mid to a 5.5 fourth mid.
You note have a steady 3-4-3 formation.

Over the course of the season, who do you think would score more though? A 6.0 defender (Chelsea, United, maybe City) or a 5.5 midfielder? Can't even think of any good middies coming in under 6.0. :/

Couple of people in the know have said Bacca to Westham is a done deal. (Same people that predicted Tore and Fletcher few days before it got confirmed). Have personally never seen the guy play but is he the real deal? The hammers biggest problem last season was a striker scoring week in week out. Carroll injured, Sakho off field dramas, Valencia to inconsistent.

With Payet, Tore/Feghouli and Lanzini in behind hopefully he can be the missing piece in the hammers attack. Also if he can take some of the pressure of Payet who was carrying the team most of last season might help him play with more freedom to.

Sparing you a long reply, yes.

Albeit a traditional striker, has a terrible left foot, & is very poor with his link-up play (he's definitely no trequartista). He does his job very well though & that's scoring goals. Everywhere he goes, he scores.
