We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

    As a general rule of thumb I have stayed away from players new to the PL, Nolito etc… as a small amount of risk lies in selecting one of the new boys.

    Usually go all out expensive players with a few cheapies and don't do great ngl...how's this for my attempt at a more "well rounded" team?:-) I know the 4.0 defenders a slight issue but prefer Forster + 4.0 to Foster + Fernandez

    Made an initial draft team based on the following strategy
    1 good keeper and 1 permanent bench fodder
    2 good defenders and 3 rotating defenders
    2 premium-priced mids, 2 mid priced ones and 1 cheapie
    1 explosive attacker, 1 mid-priced and 1 cheapie.

    initial draft subject to changes looks like this.

    Cech- Nordfeldt
    Souare- Friend- Taylor- Azpilicueta- Bailly
    Hazard-Mkhitaryan-Rodriguez-Deulefou-Fletcher
    Aguero-Giroud--Gray

    Obviously there are a lot of changes to make depending on the pre season lineups, form etc. But all opinions are welcome.

        That's an option worth considering. It was actually in my mind.
        But the OOP prospect of Rodriguez means I have chosen him for the time being. Will change to Townsend if j.Rod is not a starter for Saints.

    I imagine this will be a popular discussion in the next few weeks.

    Which 4.5 mid are you going for? And why?

    Kirchhoff, fletcher, Watson, Capoue, Hojbjerg, Leko. To name but a few. I'm personally torn between a few of the above....

    To zlatan or not to zlatan.

    The problem is that if someone starts without zlatan it would be really hard to get him later without WCing.

    So, my thought is to get Kane as my 2nd striker. It will be easier, than Lukaka f.e, to upgrade him to Zlatan if I want

      In terms of your team's shape, I'd downgrade KDB or Ibra and replace one of Watson or Hojberg with a pricier midfielder.
