We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

          Yeah might be, I have no idea how the new manager will line up.
          Think Mkhi will do well, but have gone Payet myself, as I reckon he will be a solid Captain in GWs 2 and 4

      I can't see a 4231. A double pivot is typically an inefficient use of space, and Pep is all about using space well.

      I'd guess, at this stage, a 433.

        I'd only expect him to start because of the price tag to be honest. 5m for City defender is a good pick nonetheless.

    Am I foolish to plan a team based on the best players for GWs 1-3 with the intention to WC after international break?

    Should be able to kill the first 3 GWs and get a solid, fit, more knowledgeable team after the break.
    With my luck this would be the one year I'm not killed early by injuries and bench roles.
