We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

        £1.5m is a pretty big bit.

        2nd for SitB at Spurs last season, behind Kane.
        2nd for chances created last season, behind Eriksen.

          Damn I had no idea his stats were that impressive..

          I used to like him back at Roma but then he let me down a few times in FPL.. I just presumed Eriksen was demolishing him in the stats. You have me tempted for 1.5m now.

      You've got a lot tied up in defence here, I would look to find 3 defenders who rotate well (4.5, 4.5, 4.5/5) then two slightly premium defenders. You are also going to need to consider downgrading one of your mids for a 6.5

        Eriksen to Townsend seems the right response. He likes a good cross and Palace have the most in the league last season plus great fixtures.

        Only def I really want to lose is Luke. Azpi is essential with his BPS output and Conte's style. Spurs defence will always need covering and Boro offer a cheap chance of clean sheets. Coleman is a small gamble but those fixtures are incredible and he suits Kohman's style of getting the full-backs up and down the pitch.

    Just got on and looked at the prices, the midfield options look pretty impressive. Maybe 10-12 I really like, while only 4-5 forwards catch my eye.

    Is this often the case -- does anyone remember what the options looked like in the last few preseasons? Wondering if the presence of Payet, Mahrez, Spurs as premium midfielders has boosted the ranks of great options beyond the traditional Big 4.

      Good euros aside, Hazard didn't score a goal until April last season. He'll never have as bad a season, but he generally starts slow anyway. He was better than KDB in Euros, but i think KDB is more versatile and likely to score, Hazard seems so confidence based. Has Penalties but didn't last season too..unless Fabregas is on them.. Conte got Italy playing brilliantly I thought, but staying well clear of Chelsea for a bit, till i see how others like Cuadrado, Willian will play.
