Our series of articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, comes to its conclusion with a look at West Ham.

First up, we cast an eye over the Hammers’ team statistics in Slaven Bilic’s first campaign in charge and compare them to the rest of the Premier League and the previous season. After that, we then take a close look at their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources ahead of the season kick-off in just over two weeks’ time.

After finishing in twelfth place in 2014/15, the club parted company with Sam Allardyce and installed Bilic at the helm as they looked to cultivate a more attack-minded style of play in their final season at Upton Park.

It’s fair to say that the Croatian made an instant impact – away wins over Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City in the opening six Gameweeks set the trend for what was to follow, as the Hammers finished in seventh spot on 62 points, just four points behind fourth-placed Man City and 15 more than they managed in Big Sam’s final year.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

But Ranieri usually beds new signings in. Fuchs didn't become nailed for a good few weeks

45 games in a season is pretty standard for a player at a top side who are also in europe.

Wrong. 50-60 would be a more typical range in a good European team playing in England.

Anybody care to share their thoughts on this plan/team?

The idea is to WC after GW3 for the International break. I have selected players from teams that have the easiest fixtures (GW1-3) so that points will be maximised (hopefully).

    Mandanda | Jaku
    Terry | Shaw | Friend | 4.0 | 4.0
    Mahrez | Ayew | Deulofeu | 6.0 | 4.5
    Aguero | Zlatan | Costa

I favoured CPL over WBA in defence as they have a better home record in terms of goals conceded in 2016.
Midfield is light enough but I think it will do the job as it gives me time to examine how players like Hazard and Sanchez will perform.
Heavy attack line but hoping to reap rewards with generous opening fixtures for all 3.

I prefer going into the season this way as I don't want to take risks on some players (e.g Stones or Long/Austin) and it should also give me a good indication on how some teams will line up.

      • 11 Years

Right. So your plan is to maximise gw1-3 fixtures but you have Deulofeu? His fixtures are great from gw3-7 but not the first 2 really.

      Bolasie for that 6.0 slot.
Not sure on who to replace Deulofeu with - maybe punt on Fischer at 5.5 and upgrade 4.5 to someone like Redmond?

      1. Respect My Authoritah
        • 11 Years

Another option is Rooney in for Zlatan, Terry to 5.0 and turning Deulofeu into a 9.5

      2. Super Frank8
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Deulofeu has interesting fixtures. I have him in because theres no other great options who have nice opening fixtures imo.

I like Redmond and will examine the rest of Saints pre season. CPL attack options are hit and miss

He doesn't though. TOT, wba weeks 1 & 2 are rubbish for an attacker

I'd rather have Mirallas, he's on set pieces and a little more selfish than Deulofeu. He seems to nail down a place under Koeman.

Could use some input on this. I have a team i'm fairly comfortable with, but very scared of leaving out Aguero and gamble on Batshuayi gametime. Which of these would you prefer?

    Current team:

    Hart (Jakupovic
    Shaw, Gabriel, Friend, (Fry, Paredes)
Mkhitaryan, Hazard, De Bruyne, Dier (Kanté)
    Batshuayi, Zlatan, Long

    To fit in Agu;

    Hart (Jakupovic)
    Shaw, Gabriel, Friend, (Fry, Paredes)
    Mhkitaryan, Hazard, Lamela, Dier/Højbjerg
    Aguero, Zlatan, Long

    What do you think?

I'm expecting big things from Koeman's Everton. Southampton will probably surprise people (would it be a surprise?) by having another strong season despite losing key players and their manager (again). No European football for Chelsea and Liverpool could be a big advantage for them. Wouldn't be shocked if they both make the top 4 at the expense of Spurs or Arsenal or United.

I think Liverpool can be dangerous with their strong midfield, and strengthened backline if Sturrige up front can stay fit.

Boro will place in the top half.

      Spurs will drop to 6th-10th.

Everton will struggle to stay up.

    Valdes/Foster

Shaw / Taylor / Souare (Friend / Kone)

Deulofeu / Hazard / Townsend / KDB (Capoue)

    Wilson / Aguero / Vardy

Really strongly fancy Sturridge but my head is saying Vardy for GW1 then do Vardy > Studge GW2 and GW 3 get Man U attacking cover.

    Foster Pickford
    Terry Shaw Ayala Naughton Teixeira
    Mkhitaryan Firmino Willian Ayew Capoue
