As the start of the Premier League season nears, the community is still left with plenty to ponder in their search for the perfect side.

Our community writers offer some top tips on decision making, tackling the transfer market and spotting gems from abroad. Meanwhile, our hot topic posters look at pre-season friendlies for clues on the best players to draft and the importance of having a flexible squad to react quickly to emerging trends. Finally we catch up on the latest community tournaments to launch and gather the latest statistics from our Members area tables.

The Community Articles

With a week to go before Gameweek 1 many Fantasy managers are still undecided on their 15-man squads. Oghash offered some useful guidance on making the best decisions, with holding off going to the toilet and standing by open windows among his unusual advice.

Following such advice may make it easier for Fantasy managers to spot kindred spirits. The community’s often fruitless search for like-minded souls prompted Disable to look at the different types of people Fantasy Football addicts meet in the real world.

Spotting the best prospects among those new to English football was the focus of NotsoAthletic’s analysis of the best and worst of the Premier League’s new faces from foreign leagues. Meanwhile, Anytime Scorer has been investigating how to second-guess the transfer market early on in the Fantasy Premier League.

In our latest community writer of the month vote, Kavali has been named as the top scribe by you for his Tracking The Veterans article series, which has relaunched in an expanded format for 2016/17. A £20 Amazon voucher is on its way to him.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Pre-season is still offering more questions than answers as Fantasy managers make the final touches to their squads.

We know Wayne Rooney will only be fielded in attacking roles at Manchester United, but, as our hot topic on the new regime at Old Trafford showed, there are still plenty of question marks over whether their ageing stars can be a success. There’s also some doubts over who will get the nod in defence under Jose Mourinho.

Jordan Rhodes has been in great form for Middlesbrough during the summer friendlies, but there are still concerns that such pre-season stars will be the real deal once the Premier League starts up again.

Picking a promoted striker like Rhodes can reap rewards, as owners of former QPR hitman Charlie Austin and Watford’s sharp shooting pair Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney can testify. As Ludo’s hot topic shows, however, there are plenty of other lower league forwards who fail to make the grade at the highest level.

Burnley’s Andre Gray is another prolific Championship striker who has already impressed in pre-season. Parm urges quick investment as he believes Gray is set to hit the ground running from Gameweek 1. However, Ron E urges caution in fielding the Burnley man against some of the Premier League’s tougher defences, as he has a reputation for struggling against top teams.

Bowstring the Carp has been gathering some further statistics from the friendlies to help sort the successes from the flops, which is an excellent compliment to our own, regularly updated, pre-season form guide.

Disable has been considering those players that have yet to shine in pre-season, which Fantasy managers may be unfairly overlooking, while Evs has also been casting his gaze over the best prospects amongst those players who are new to the Premier League.

Getting the best players is only half the battle in constructing the perfect FPL side, says Twister Saltergater. He urges FPL managers to make sure they carefully consider team balance so that poorly performing players can be drafted out swiftly for emerging stars.

Finally, Kavali is urging the best FPL managers who are within the top 20 of our Hall of Fame to get in touch to help out with his forthcoming 2016/17 tracking the veterans analysis.

The Members Tables

Among the latest Members to create their own tables is Forza Inter, who has been on the hunt for clues as to which midfielders are likely to score well next season.

Elsewhere, end of season team form and those sides who got off to a flier last season are the key issues considered in Kushal21’s latest tables, while Goalkeepers are the subject of moin-panwar’s latest offering.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Two popular community tournaments are set to return for 2016/17, with TorresMagic announcing details of next season’s Last Man Standing and Jaffalicious bringing us news of how to enter his FFS UEFA Champions League themed competition

There are is also a new tournament for some of our community, with HVT setting up the Irish Contingent League for his fellow countrymen and women.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Deadly front three. Not sure about the midfield, Routledge a risk, despite his pre season form. I'd try and squeeze either Ayew/Sig or even Firmino in there.

Tadic stays for me mate, hes on set pieces, has a history of being an assist king and also a great run of fixtures.... I can see why you'd be concerned but I want some southampton attacking cover, think im getting some differential too by the looks of his ownership...

Barkley a way into Everton attack and Terry a way into Chelsea defence for about 3/4 gws at least because of Zouma injury...

I think hes nailed, only concern is if hes played wide instead of Albrighton.... hoping Ranieri plays 442.... hes lightning quick and leicester are a class counter attacking team.... im sold on him too I think... Routledge is bugging me but I need chelsea def cover and also utd should be very solid under jose.... Iv got no wiggle room...

Mazzarri playing Capoue in the heart of midfield, allowing him freedom to roam forward, already resulting in him bagging a couple of goals. Don't see Fletcher as a point scorer at all.

Arsenal 8⃣️-0⃣️ Viking FK match report

⭐ players: Everyone! (Cazorla, Campbell, Iwobi and Akpom tremendous)

Arsenal 1st half team (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Debuchy, Bielik, Gabriel, Gibbs; Coquelin, Elneny; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Campbell; Walcott.

3’’ Debuchy is taken down in the box and the referee awards a penalty. Cazorla steps up and it’s saved by the keeper! ⛔
18’’ Campbell delivers a great corner that meets the head of Elneny. The attempt is saved brilliantly by the Viking goalkeeper.
33’’ After a series of half-chances, Walcott’s stabbed shot forces a corner. Cazorla swings it in this time and Elneny heads it into the bottom corner. Looks like Campbell steered it in so it will be claimed by him. ⚽
42’’ Walcott twists and turns to find space to get a shot away but it’s too central and the keeper saves low.

Arsenal 2nd half team (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Debuchy, Bielik, Holding, Gibbs; Adelaide, Elneny; Iwobi, Cazorla, Campbell; Walcott.

46’’ Cazorla shot on the volley goes narrowly wide.
50’’ Fantastic goal by Cazorla from about 25 yards or so out after Walcott made the pass. Perfect hit to the right side of the goal that the keeper couldn’t reach. ⚽
53’’ Floodgates opening now. Campbell passes to Walcott in the box who snaps at it and sends the ball into the bottom left corner. ⚽
55’’ Arsenal are running riot now. A great pass from Cazorla finds Campbell on the right. He beats the defenders and sends it across to Adelaide for a tap in but the Viking defender pokes it into his own net. ⚽
59’’ And it’s another! Cazorla and Adelaide link up, with the latter slipping Campbell through on goal. His shot thunders off the underside of the crossbar and goes in. ⚽
66’’ Walcott one on one but the keeper wins the possession of the ball.
70’’ Debuchy, Gibbs, Elneny, Campbell and Walcott subbed for Bellerin, Monreal, Willock, Zelalem and Akpom. ↩️
71’’ Cazorla selflessly sets up Iwobi with a nice through ball on the left who powers it home low for Arsenal’s sixth goal of the night! ⚽
76’’ Cazorla tries to add to his tally but his curling effort is too central and the keeper holds it.
79’’ Cazorla is booked as Viking try to break. ⚠️
81’’ Seven for Arsenal as Adelaide sends a good ball to Iwobi who doubles his tall. The keeper gets a hand on it but there’s nothing he can do as it deflects off the post into the bottom corner. ⚽
87’’ Akpom is denied with a double save as he can’t convert the pass from Iwobi.
89’’ Surely there can’t be more goals? There is. Bellerin’s shot from distance is saved and spilled into the path of Akpom who adds to his tally tonight. ⚽

    Match rating: ★★★★★★★★★★

        Fair point.

If you're bored, feel free to RMT:

        Foster (Jaku)
        Shaw Stones Pieters (Amat Paredes)
        Hazard Martial Tadic Alli (Capoue)
        Kun Lukaku Gray

Concern is very weak at the back

        Options:

        a) Keep as is
        b) Gray - Diomande, Amat to Terry (0.5 ITB) or Azpi
        c) Alli - Siggy, upgrade defence

United fan here- avoid Rooney. Will be playing in the hole and is always (still) coming back deep to collect the ball, far better options up front. When played, Mata has looked a much better player in the hole.

        Good call

You think Martial does the running for Roon and Ibra? Why he's in my draft at the moment

Martial is a fantastic pick, him and Mkhitaryan will constantly be a threat, Martial will be cutting in more likely to find goals, Mkhitaryan will be crossing for Ibra getting the assists.

He scored well with Gomis getting in his way. Same with Llorente wouldn't you think?

Lol at all the people suggesting Newcastle could go the season unbeaten the last few days 😀

Agreed calling unbeaten was rather poor punditry.

What's the news on Llorente? Do people like him? Think he will be a £6.5er? Personally I reckon he will be £7.0 - same as Deeney and Defoe

Hope he's a £6.5m like Negredo at Boro.

I'm afraid he's too similar to Negredo, last season's stats weren't great either.

I am not sold on Hazard for 10m after last year, not sure on why people are falling over themselves to get him in

Will Djilobodji effect Kones game time? Kone has been in every draft of mine so far.

Is this defence just too poor?

      Jaku forster (wba)

Walker mcauley Morgan Fernández 4mil fodder

My attack just seems to click perfectly but I just feel as if this defence won't stand a chance

Ideally, yes, you do need to try and have one solid defender. Fernandez also not guaranteed a starting spot. Take a look at Chelsea- Terry, United- Shaw. Also Koeman will bring defensive solidarity to Everton, Stones worth a look at only 5, Baines and Coleman also at 5.5, he loves his fullbacks going forward.

Looks decent but possibly a little light in midfield.....but I guess it always will be with the big 2 up front

Wouldn't double up on UTD until you've seen how they'll play. New manager, new players. I'd downgrade Zlatan and sort your midfield out.

Been playing in a more advanced position under Koeman and has been thriving in it- bagged himself a few goals.
