The first competitive game of the domestic season warrants our first Dugout Discussion.

There is just so much on show to interest Fantasy Football managers, as Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City clash with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United under the baking sun of Wembley.

The form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will inevitably come under the closest scrutiny – the latter begins on the bench but Ibrahimovic starts; his display will surely be crucial to his burgeoning ownership levels over the next 24-hours.

But it’s dangerous to ignore Leicester.

Both Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy are on Ranieri’s teamsheet as they bid to play their way into our day one thinking for the potentially profitable trip to Hull City. Again, their performances could change everything, forcing us back to the drawing board in a matter of hours.

It’s a fascinating scenario and a fitting taster to the season kick-off next weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hey guys. A quick question for you....

Would you want to start Ramirez & Redmond every week of you could also start with Hazard & Sanchez

    1. U n I t e d

At the moment no, but if they are both scoring enough points...why not?

Would you guys suggest having 2 or 3 players from about 5 or 6 teams or having 1 or 2 players from a good variety of teams?

I would suggest having who you think will score the most points, and literally don't care about coverage

There is an argument for not putting all your eggs in a few baskets, but sometimes there are some teams that are getting all the goals/clean sheets and you want more than one of their players. But I think it is always worth keeping an eye on teams that may not be performing as well, because there may be a player that gets all their points (defoe for sunderland, Austin for QPR, etc).

Delboy and tadic have been in every team of mine the last 2 weeks until today!
And I have your front 3 because of our limp attacking display today!
      Your team looks good

Why do so many teams have capoue as the 5th mid - I know he is cheap but he is very defensive mid so never going to get many points at all, rather take a chance on a more attacking cheap option from the promoted sides.

    I'm tempted to go with a two big, two small midfielders, thoughts on;

Sanchez, Hazard, Gradel and Ramirez , 4.5m bench

I think that what most people will go for maybe try get a middle mid if you can

Only possible if I take out one of Aguero/Ibra, which I don't want to do.

Ibra to Kane and then upgrade to Redmond possibly...but not really worth it

It's not flexible is my issue with it. You won't want to sell Sanchez or Hazard and when Gradel and/or Ramirez flop you have to make 2 transfers to get into the big group of mids with Siggy Redmond Deulofeu, Tadic, Oscar etc

      1. HamezMace
        • 11 Years

Well last season most us had Hazard out by GW3/4 - and could easily swap him for anyone else, except KBD.

If both Sanchez and Hazard come out firing I'd be more than happy with two of my four mids performing

I want Sanchez in my team badly, but do you think he will fire that much more than say Eriksen or Mane or Martial/Mikh or Mahrez, and especially when factor that upgrades one of your mids to another potential fairly heavy hitter like tadic or Delf/Barkley.

    4. Lebowski85
      • 13 Years

I've gone for something similar at present. My concern is also flexibility. It'll be hard to jump on any bandwagons from the two extremes. Who knows....Gradel & Ramirez could be the ones

This is fair point and my biggest worry when I have tried to work Sanchez into my team after seeing he is fit enough to start even in pre-season game. I know once I have him it will be too much to transfer him out, but got the same with Aguero and Zlat up front too.

I think this is my last go.. Away on holiday tomorrow so only one eye on it.

    Foster - Jakupovic
    Shaw - Terry - Hernandez - Evans - Amat
    Mahrez - Townsend - Oscar - Feghouli - Capoue
    Aguero - Zlatan - Costa

    Thoughts?

I'm not sure on anything. Previously it was Hazard instead of Oscar. With Gray for Costa

Are you trying for potential differential from others, or you think Costa got the more points in him - he has already given me a bit of a headache with Batsy in the picture, but regardless between those two Hazard is the most secure, as is Gray for Burnley. I think Haz and Gray has better points potential and more security.

I feel like Zlat kind of did for me - may not been the best performance today, but he converted when gets the chance and that is what he does. So even if worry about Jose settling for 1 goal wins and such, Zlat will always be around goal and always making defence sweat about what he might do.

      A. Morgan / Ramirez nailed. Good things coming out of Mid. on Ramirez attacking abilities. He’s here, he’s there, he’s every-bleeping-where Gaston R, Gaston R…Boro’s Uruguayan playmaker hit the woodwork with a free-kick as Boro drew at Udinese in midweek. And he came back from Italy flying as he produced a jet-powered performance against Real Sociedad.
Ramirez seemed to be in about three places at once at times as he switched flanks, raided forward from his own half. His three efforts on goal were arguably Boro’s best .

Redmond / Eriksen - Lamela may have the potential for a big start but he has burned me before and there is a reason his price is so different to Eriksen, he will be a much more consistent earner over the GWs. Redmond has potential to be very exciting as well.
