Sadio Mane goes into Liverpool’s trip to Burnley as a doubt following a shoulder injury in training. Arsene Wenger will be without both Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi for the trip to Leicester City, while Mark Hughes confirms that Jack Butland won’t be risked against Manchester City. Here’s a summary of the known teams news so far…

Ryan Bertrand remainssidelined for Southampton’s trip to Old Trafford this evening due to an ongoing knee complaint. Claude Puel has confirmed that Jose Fonte is in contention to start after stepping up his fitness in training this week.

Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) and Alex Iwobi (thigh) have been ruled out until after the international break after they were forced off injured against Liverpool last weekend. Arsene Wenger has conceded he may have to gamble on the fitness of Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud, though won’t start all three. The Gunners boss revealed that Koscielny is the likeliest of the trio to feature in his first XI.

Eddie Howe has confirmed he has “no major concerns” on the injury front as Bournemouth make their way to West Ham on Sunday.

Club record signing Steven Defour could be in line for a start at home to Liverpool, reckons Sean Dyche. Ashley Barnes remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury, whilst the on-loan Jon Flanagan cannot face his parent club.

Mark Hughes has this morning ruled Jack Butland out of a return against Manchester City, whilst Glen Johnson also remains sidelined with a thigh complaint. Shaqiri is also a concern after suffeirng a calf problem in the 1-1- draw with Middlesbrough on the opening day.

Alan Pardew has also updated us this morning with news that both Joe Ledley and Wayne Hennessey are “fitness concerns” ahead of the trip to White Hart Lane. The Eagles boss also indicated that Yohan Cabaye, Jordon Mutch, and James McArthur would likely travel having missed the season opener with West Brom.

Chris Smalling and Paul Pogba are back in contention after serving out one-match suspensions, though Jose Mourinho has admitted that the latter is unable to play 90 minutes due to a lack of match fitness. Jesse Lingard is also available after recovering from a foot problem.

Hugo Lloris is sidelined with a hamstring injury as Spurs welcome Palace to the Lane. Mousa Dembele sits out the fourth of a six-match ban, whilst Heung Min Son has returned from the Olympics and will be assessed.

Sadio Mane remains doubtful for Liverpool’s trip to Burnley with a shoulder injury sustained in training. James Milner and Daniel Sturridge are back in full training, whilst Lucas also has a chance of making it. Mamadou Sakho has stepped up his recovery but is expected to miss out again.

Ronald Koeman will make a late decision on Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Williams’ fitness for Everton’s trip to the Hawthorns. The Belgian returned to full training yesterday without any problems, whilst Williams has stepped up his match fitness over the past week. Seamus Coleman remains absent, though Yannick Bolasie is in line for a debut.

Swansea’s record signing Borja Baston is sidelined with a minor thigh problem. Neil Taylor is likely to miss out again as he builds up his fitness, whilst Leon Britton (illness) is doubtful. Ki Sung-yeung is back in contention to face Hull, with Francesco Guidolin hinting at a start for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this evening’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

    Got the following team

    Heaton (Forster)
    VVD. Friend. Stones. (Daniels). (Pieters)
    Haz. Mahrez. Alli. Tadic (Capoue)
    Negredo. Aguero. Gray

Defence and keeper seem really weak for this week

    Any suggestions. Got 1 FT

    Two dilemmas:

    A. Play Evans or Redmond? (Already playing Foster and Tadic)

    B. Captain ZLATAN or KUN

    Gracías.

True, but wasn't that the case last season as well? Ofc all of those above have improved (except Arsenal, lol), but I think if Spurs manage to keep performing like last season they are definitely strong candidates for a top 4 finish

So tempted to save FT but think forced into making a change with feghouli...havnt heard any update about him so assume he is going to out and his price shd drop tonight

    foster -- jaku
stones valencia kone --- friend pieters
hazard firmino townsend redmond --- feghouli
    kun ibra gray

    A: feghouli >> ramirez..and bench redmond
B: feghouli >> capoue to avoid price drop and gain capoue rise and start redmond..will eventually have my fifth mid at 4.5 so might as well get now
C: save FT and consider doing
C1: firmino + feghouli >> mahrez + capoue next gw if mahrez scores
C2: gray + feghouli >> benteke + capoue next gw
    C3: stones + feghouli >> baines + capoue + 0.5m itb next gw

        1. AlexFF
          • 10 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

I think everyone has Aguero - would be stupid not to have him. Not many have Zlatan, but nor do I, so there isn't really a problem there.

          1. SilverSpurs
            • 9 Years
            9 years, 7 months ago

Wouldn't say Aguero is a must have with his price tag. He's on fire but so are Hazard, Ibra, Liverpool midfield, Lamela etc and they all can deliver while being able way cheaper than Kun.

It's good to have Aguero but it might be smart not to have him. This season after all the big transfers there are so many possibilities that you simply can't afford all the big hitters (which is opposite to the last season) and as Kun is the most expensive one maybe it's good to have e.g. Hazard, Ibra and another premium striker or MF + decent rest of the team instead of having Kun+ tow othe premium players (e.g Ibra and Haz) and ruining the rest of the team.

            But it's just my opinion

I agree, but he's explosive. He could easily score 2. I'd rather be on the side of the fence that has him rather than the side of the fence that doesn't!

I really hope Rooney outscores Ibra this GW (and also gets pens over him)...will be interesting how many make the switch saving 2.5M considering 42% have Ibra while only 8% have rooney.

Anyone who sells Ibra if he blanks this gw is a fool. Maybe he will flop this season, but selling him after two gw's because of one blank is ridiculous. Same goes for any player unless fixtures are an issue which in Ibra's case isn't.

When Brunt is fit which one gives room for him? McAuley or Evans (to CB instead of McAuley)?

Just cannot which 1 to bench
    Stones (sto)
    Kone (MID)
    Redmond (mun)

Been all of three of them but keep changing mind. Worried I'm gonna leave points on the bench

Is there anything concrete that suggests Redmond will play up front tonight? Isn't playing up top with Long as the lone striker the logical Southampton approach?

'The logical Southampton approach'. I assume by this you mean 'the Koeman approach'. Puel doesn't play a lone striker and has exclusively played a diamond in his time at Southampton thus far, replicating the formation he used at Nice. He has also talked up using Redmond in one of these striking spots. Redmond repaid the faith with a goal and outshone Long in almost every aspect last weekend.

Puel has played his diamond with 2 strikers every single game. Long and Redmond again probably.

Could be Austin for Long. Austin's been a prominent part of the Saints media coverage this week and I wonder if this is a hint, given how much Long disappointed vs Watford. The question for Austin is whether he can adapt to Puel's tactics.

Yep, think Austin may come in for Long.

Has he played against a genuinely top team yet though? Would like to think (from a non FPL point of view) the team would show some flexibility

He played that way with Nice, regardless of opposition, unless I've missed some of the tactical data. The strikers may be asked to do more defensive work but I don't expect him to switch to a lone striker system.

Actually, that's technically wrong. I remember he tried 3-5-2 at times. But that's still a two up top system.

He moves around a lot but essentially Puel wants him in goal-scoring positions

Last week was the same - he works with Long and Tadic, both balancing supply and opportunity as the game needs be.

But essentially he's playing as a striker, have a look in the Member's Area at the stats from Southampton v Watford.

Yeah, but is he going to approach Man U away the same as Watford at home? If he plays the same way every game Southampton are likely to get sussed out PDQ.

        1. Lucy.

Oh I think we're very likely to be 'sussed' but I still don't see him changing system. Those that favour the lone striker system very rarely switch to two strikers in easier games. Managers have their own tactics.

He's also trying to get the team to adapt to his new style. I can't think reverting will help them adapt.

This is the question; we've no idea.

18 other teams will be potentially playing a different style this Gameweek as those that played at home last week are away this week, an vice versa.

Only Burnley (home) and Liverpool (away) have the same fixture status.

All will be revealed, but I expect Southampton to play quite conservatively; neither inviting United to attack to unleash a counter, nor attacking outright.
