Saturday’s events has proved the catalyst for a number of key changes in the Watchlist, most notably in midfield.

Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to sacrifice Dele Alli for the home clash with Crystal Palace has seen him topple from the reckoning. With Christian Eriksen giving way to Alli on 68 minutes, Erik Lamela enjoys a climb in the Watchlist as our current preferred target in the Spurs midfield. Given Harry Kane’s decline as attacking cover, this finds Lamela rank fifth in a significant rise for the Argentine.

It is Everton’s Ross Barkley that enjoys the most significant ascent.

We would normally remain cautious on Barkley’s potential but the current Fantasy landscape compounds the appeal of the Toffees playmaker.

Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are absorbing big funds in attack, resulting in midfield options in and around the 7.5 Fantasy Premier League bracket becoming key targets.

Barkley has started the season with a goal and an assist and should have come away from the Hawthorns with a second strike of the season after planting a close-range header wide of Ben Foster’s goal.

Everton and Barkley have made a confident start under Ronald Koeman and their fixtures are just exceptional.

Stoke, Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace present winnable Goodison encounters, whilst the Toffees will also travel to Sunderland, Bournemouth and Burnley in their next seven.

With the Romelu Lukaku option priced out by the Aguero/Ibraimovic pairing, it is clear that Barkley is the key draw. He is a factor on set-pieces and is currently presumed to be Koeman’s designated penalty taker having scored in pre-season with Lukaku and Baines on the pitch.

Both Kevin Mirallas and Yannick Bolasie offer cheaper alternatives. Mirallas has also started the season strongly and plays his part at set-pieces, but his security of start is called into question now that Bolasie is an option to Koeman, with Gerard Deulofeu also in the mix. Barkley looks set to remain a constant with the pitch time of that trio is currently difficult to predict.

Bolasie at just 6.0 in the FPL is, nonetheless, set to be an intriguing option. If he earns regular starts as expected, we will need to monitor his output and underlying numbers in comparison to his displays at Palace. Koeman is certainly pledging to get more goals and assists from his big money signing.

Elsewhere, Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and the returning Dimitri Payet look strong as midfield big-hitters, but Barkley has the potential to keep pace with them if he can maintain his form over his most obliging run of opponents.

Lower down the rankings, Andros Townsend’s stock is also boosted by strong fixtures. The arrival of Christian Benteke now offers the alternative in the Palace ranks and it’s arguable whether this dents Townsend’s appeal given that his supply now has a target.

Nathan Redmond holds his high rank despite a run of testing opponents to come – St Mary’s meetings with Sunderland, Swansea and Burnley still offer potential profit.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne currently remain on the periphery – again impact of the Aguero/Ibrhimovic pairing is limiting their popularity, at least until they begin to provide evidence that they can justify their lofty price tags.

Sanchez certainly has the fixtures to thrive, although he currently seems to be struggling having been charged with the central striker role by Arsene Wenger.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Should I downgrade Deulofeu to Barry/Wanyama (and play Capoue going forward) in order to upgrade Vardy to Zlatan? Two FTs

It was all because of the "winning goal" bps come to think of it. If Gray scored the first goal and Vokes the second, Vokes would have got 28 bps (0 baps) and Gray would have got 32 bps(3 baps). So shoudn't worry too much just yet.

If you play 3 defenders and one of them doesn't play, that's a common time when one of your defender subs will jump the queue and be the replacement.

Seems like everyone here is hailing Benteke as the cheap striker messiah.

Yes, he has previous successes, but I'm going to wait and see with him. He hasn't played in a long time and he isn't exactly going into a free flowing side, scoring plenty of goals.

True, but he will be their main threat and when he scores I think he'll pick up 3nonus quite often. A lot of 9 and occasional 13 pointers I reckon

    Last week:

Has 30 pts on bench including Foster, Amat, Evans and Capoue

    This week:

    I did Gray>Carroll for a FT
    Gray destroys my team Liverpool
Andy Carroll needs a transfer to get rid of him
My first substitute is Evans (0 pts), Capoue is 3rd sub

Then Heaton who I bench for Foster gets 10 pts against Liverpool

Stones, Amata, Alli and Firmino combine for 5 pts

Incredibly shocking start despite my rank not being the worst. Falling behind in my MLs. I feel pressured into wildcarding despite the team not looking TOO bad.

You got what you deserved in all honesty.

Capoue 3rd sub when he should probably always be 1st sub.

Mainly due to me having faith in Liverpool which makes it even harsher. If he was playing a different club I would have kept him.

Capoue I had third substitute because up until this year he has hardly scored. I understand he's moved forward but it seemed REALLY unlikely against Chelsea.

That is a joke and a half. The BB has done it's job and put me in a great starting position. 36k is an excellent rank at this stage of the season. You obviously haven't understood why I played it if you think it's wasted.

                  Lol.

                  Not obsessed.

You did a lot of crowing last week and there was/had been a lot of strategy/theory chat about the move in general about it being such a great idea. That gives people the right to have an opinion on it. I have read all of it and I didn't agree with it.

Decent enough start I'm on 132pts and I havent used my bench boost or all out attack.

There's no need to be so mad that I disagreed with you on Capoue being an obvious choice over Evans for 1st sub lol. You are one of the better posters on here imo.

I don't think I did a lot of crowing, I was crediting Ruth Nzs post constantly and trying discuss the actual tactic. If you took that as a boast, that's your problem.

Good for you, that's decent. Just saying, AOA is negligible 🙂

I think as a tactic it is flawed.

It gives opposition a lot of time to react to any benefit you have gained from your BB.

I posted this at the time.

It was also based on the fact that some of last year's dgws didn't really deliver a decent BB score.

I think it was ignorant to the possibility that they could deliver this time round.

One swallow doesn't make a summer.

But each to their own you've played yours I'll play mine in a late dgw.

This doesn't seem at all relevant to me. React in what way? Don't have a clue what you're getting at there.

How was it based on last season? It was based on assuming the value of BB in a SGW=12. And in a DGW=24.

                        You don't get the relevance?

That you could lose any benefit gained from the BB from poor play or your opponents / rivals could gain ground back on you from good play.

Example in point I have 132pts no chips played, you have 137pts with 2 chips played yet last week the bench boost tactic was being heralded as the beat thing since sliced bread.

                        Fairly simple to understand imo.

It was based on last season too as if a dgw BB had been such a success people wouldnt have found the need to find another strategy. It would have been the accepted beat practice.

Makes no sense whatsoever to me. Points in the bank are points in the bank. If I didn't play BB, I would be 20+ points behind....

That may be a good point. But end of the day if it inspired a further look into the tactic that imo logically suggested that the DGW BB was not the best way to use it then so be it.

Also, you need to consider my strategy was to create a 15 man squad tailored to the first 3 GW's with a GW4 WC and GW1 BB in mind. I have ended up wth most of my home players Gw1 and 3 for that reason so was always expecting a bit of a tougher gw 2. My start can only really be judged after next gw. Let's not forgot how erratic the rankings are this early. Huge movements occur, I could end up back in the top 1k or be outside the top 200k after this gw, who knows.

So in that case has your BB papered over a potentially no so great start?

The timing of it for me is key.

I largely play mini leagues while a low OR is good it doesn't matter so much as long as I win my money.

I said at the time, I'll say it again if some dude played his BB against me in gw1 I'd be rubbing my hands together with delight. Because I've a lot of time to adjust, and they not so much if I pull a 20+ pts booster out in GW36 for example.

The DGW not being the best use was based on far too small a sample size imo.

I have created a short term team myself, it's scoring decent.

I thought about wildcarding going into gw4 but now I might not have to.

The price market would have forced it but as it stands I look in place to catch some risers and not have fallers, maybe.

You are completely missing the point here - it is not based on any sample size. It is based on assuming values for its worth and then analyzing whether or not it's worth chasing the 12 point "advantage" of the DGW.

My summary of Ruths post with a couple of my own thoughts:

Value of BB in a SGW – 12pts
Value of BB in a DGW – 24pts

So is it worth chasing that 12 point “advantage?”

                        No because:

-You have to compromise your WC by playing it a week early and selling players that you wouldn’t want to sell early. Eg Hazard may have SUN a week before the main DGW. But He doesn’t have a DGW. So you sell him for a DGW’er on your WC a week before the DGW and miss his haul vs SUN.

-Likely points hit(s) required to fix side after BB DGW.

-Almost impossible to get 15 players players twice in a DGW. Near the end of the season, rotation, injuries and even suspensions start catching up to players. I will play my second WC in the actual week of the big DGW and will get 11 “nailed on” DGW’ers.

If you're a ML guy then DGW BB is probably the way to go. This is more for overall rank.

                        I've read all that stuff.

The assumptions are based largely on what came to be last year.

So on that basis the assumptions have been formed on too small a sample size.

The DGW BB could be an absolute haymaker this season yet, no one knows how it will pan out.

There is really no mention of luck in all this. Your move looked good as I imagine you had Capoue, Evans, Amat something like that? Again small simple size. I'd like to see a comparison of gw1 BBs on the whole and the results measured against that of the DGW.

It is not based on last season though. The value 12 is just a general assumption. And x2 for DGW which makes sense.

Obviously, there is a chance that this season the DGW BB will produce some huge scores. I don't see why that would be likely to happen though.

Absolutely not. Why the heck would I bench boost with Capoue? That would have been complete luck.

Foster Ramirez Friend Kinglsey was my bench. 24 points. It was thoroughly planned and hours went into it.

And don't come and tell me Kinglsey was luck. I read an article stating Taylor had been left out of GW1 squad. Kinglsey had played with the first team in the last pre season match. @4.0m and against Burnley I thought he was an excellent option for my GW1 BB.

The Gray point is spot on though. Terrible, terrible move. Had great pre season, main man up top, on pens good stats in GW1 and up against a shaky defence. You got what you deserved there i'm afraid.

Yup. He is a quality player, lesson learned. Hence why I'm being patient with Firmino too.

Thought Andy Carroll with Payet back and the great fixtures would produce the goods as well though.

Gray playing Liverpool and Chelsea did not look as good to me. Obviously Liverpool are shocking at defending.

    Hi all,

I thinking of transferring Eriksen out. Thinking of bringing in Sterling or Barkley. Who would you choose?

Currently have Hazard, Townsend, Ramirez and Holjberg.

    Cheers!

Ditched Long, Alli & Tadic for Zibra, Lamela & Redmond for a -4 before all the price rises/drops. Currently 0.5m to the good and rising. That's quite a wedge of funds, especially at this time of the season don't you think?

I know early transfers are frowned upon by some but they do have their upsides.

There seems to be more transfers in the early goings as people who have not lost interest are still playing and jumping off and on bandwagons. Later on in the season once the "template" is established prices become less sensitive. I wish I had the same grasp on my real life finances. :O

Lamela had another decent performance yesterday by all accounts.

    c. VVD -> Shaw

    Foster
    Shaw Stones Soare
    Hazard Tadic Redmond Ramirez
    Aguero Zlatan Vardy

    Jaku Capoue Friend Amat

    2 FT, 0.0 ITB

Had been planning on Tadic and Vardy- Ozil and Benteke but now I've already missed their price drops, no real rush with good fixtures this weekend.

Stones to Walker or Baines had been in my head with the 0.5 I would save but now I have lost this option with the price drops would Stones to Williams be a good move?

    Suggestions? Opinions on team?
