Moving Target

Having already acquired Christian Benteke in this transfer window, Crystal Palace further bolstered their striking options with the signing of Chelsea forward Loic Remy on a season-long loan.

The 29-year-old will once again link up with his former manager at Newcastle Alan Pardew, and speaking to the club’s official website, the Palace boss expressed his delight at being able to secure the Frenchman’s services:

“Loic has been a target of mine throughout this transfer window and I’m delighted the deal has been done. I brought him to Newcastle so I know what he is capable of and I am convinced he will be a quality addition to our squad as we evolve. Loic has international and Champions League experience as well as being a Premier League title winner and is the latest example of the high calibre of players we have brought into the club during this transfer window.”

The History

Remy joined Lyon’s youth academy at the age of 12, and progressed all the way to the first-team, making his professional debut against Saint Etienne in October 2006.

With Remy struggling for first-team action at Lyon, he joined Lens on loan in January 2008, producing four goals and two assists in 12 appearances before moving to Nice in the summer of 2008.

Over the next two seasons, Remy thrived as a regular starter, scoring 30 goals and bagging eight assists in 75 appearances in all competitions. He was linked with a move to Stoke, but ended up joining Marseille in August 2010 for a fee of around €15 million.

His two-and-a-half-year spell with the French giants continued to see Remy flourish as one of the leading strikers in Ligue 1, racking up 42 goals and 13 assists in 111 outings for the club.

He was on the move again in January 2013, signing for QPR for around £8 million. He was unable to prevent the club being relegated to the Championship, but did score six goals in 14 Premier League matches.

Remy moved to Newcastle on loan in 2013/14, and continued to impress in the Premier League, scoring 14 goals and grabbing three assists in just 26 matches.

Those performances convinced Chelsea to sign the striker in August 2014, but Remy has struggled for first-team action over the last two seasons, only managing 47 appearances in all competitions, totalling 12 goals and three assists.

Having scored five goals in 15 matches at Under 20 and Under 21 levels, Remy was afforded a senior debut for France in a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria in June 2009. He has made 31 appearances for his country, scoring seven goals.

The Prospects

While club-record Benteke looks set to be the centrepiece of the Palace attack this season, it was clear Pardew needed to add further goals to his side.

The Eagles scored just 39 times last season, ranking them as the joint-third lowest scorers, and have netted only once in the first three Gameweeks.

Pardew interestingly switched from his usual 4-2-3-1 formation to a 4-4-2 on Benteke’s league debut against Bournemouth on Saturday, with the Belgian playing alongside Connor Wickham in attack. Should Pardew look to favour the latter system, Remy could compliment Benteke perfectly, with the France international’s pace and dynamism in contrast to Benteke’s strength, aerial ability and hold up play.

Remy is a versatile attacker, though, capable of also playing wide on the right, whereas the former Liverpool striker is an out-and-out target man. Should Pardew use the Frenchman on the right wing, Andros Townsend could have some competition for his place, or he may shift over to the left wing, leaving Wilfried Zaha’s spot in doubt.

Certainly, if Pardew keep faith in the 4-4-2, we could see the Eagles putting a lot more crosses into the box, as they did last Saturday, which could boost the assist potential of Townsend and Jason Puncheon.

Priced at 6.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Remy could provide excellent value should he be able to secure a regular starting berth, although having had little football over the past few months, it could take him some time to regain full match sharpness.

Coming in at just 1.0 more, Benteke is currently our favoured attacking asset at Selhurst Park, particularly after he revealed he’s determined to take penalty duties off Yohan Cabaye, after the midfielder missed his second successive spot-kick in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth. The former Newcastle player could also be set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a groin injury whilst on international duty.

Palace’s fixtures in the short-term (mid, STO, sun) are pretty favourable, but with Pardew’s side struggling for form, and both Benteke and Remy short of match fitness, there are no guarantees either player will hit the ground running at their new club. Pardew’s decision to hand Benteke 90 minutes last weekend, though, was an indication that he’s desperate for the new boys to make an impact.

Certainly, Remy’s history under Pardew offers encouragement that the Palace boss can once again get the best out of him. Whether he can better Benteke as a Fantasy prospect remains to be seen.

Plumping for a WHU double up on wildcard, welcome to my team Antonio and Zaza.

Think Zaza will come good, not sure about Antonio being nailed on long term though with Payet, Lanzini and Feghouli all due back soon.

I feel like be may only be for a couple of games. Presumably Payet will play on the left and Lanzini in the middle, leaving Tore/Feghouli/Antonio battling it out for the right wing. Bilic also described Feghouli as a 'marquee' signing earlier in pre-season. Antonio could potentially still be starting games at right back until Arbeloa is fit as well

Tore has looked very average for them and Feghouli's not a very good player, Antonio's nailed

I don't see how you can say definitely, it's a possibility but is in no way definite. Bilic took forever to give Antonio a game last season, waited until he was forced too because all our other midfielders were injured, and has used any excuse to play him at right back instead. Despite scoring twice so far Antonio hasn't looked quite so sharp this season, has drifted out of games a bit so far.

Either Zaza comes straight in the team or we rest our goalscoring hopes on 20 year old Ashley Fletcher. Zaza will definitely be straight in there

Masuaku has looked very good so far. Just warning you though he could of easily been sent off against City, the amount of times he hacked down Sterling, even when on a yellow. Should be fine though, as long as he doesn't come up against any more tricky wingers in the form of their lives

            maybe not week 4 though

Defoe is just a better all round option. Giroud is a more sensible punt as Arsenal can be so explosive

But Kane? No. Unless he goes crazy Sunday I'd avoid him like the plague. I'd rather have Costa with the guarantee of a booking every match.

Pretty sure that's what I was saying about Wanyama before the season started. Never noticed Dembele as a good player but, the longer he spends off the pitch the better he appears. Sissoko might be able to rectify the issue although, I remember him turning up at Newcastle and looking great for a match or two so, I brought him in for some solid 2 pointers...

    If gray gets a ban

Thoughts on vokes as the ultra-differntial?

      considered this for a while

they just don't score enough goals

I have aguero and gray and taking them both out means I can pretty much afford any other two strikers I want (as have zlatan and don't want harry)

therefore vokes wouldn't be top of my list

Hmm, I get that there are definitely better options with Kun money kicking around

However having a 6m striker in the team already is going to make it much easier to get the aguero/ibra combo as soon as kun is back

At 6.0, there aren't any attractive choices of attacker.
One attraction of Vokes is that he will be absolutely nailed on if (or when) Gray gets suspended.
Add penalties to that, and you can't do much better in the cheapo striker category.

People were picking Gray because he is a natural goalscorer who scored 9 in pre-season, not because they felt the need to have a Burnley striker. Vokes is a very different player and didn't score at all in the premier league the last time he was in it. Would definitely be a very risky move and I'd be very surprised if it came off

Wouldn't keep money ITB just to plan Aguero. We don't know yet when we need to get Aguero back, and for whom. Would upgrade Redmond to Antonio and then sit back and enjoy the points 🙂

    WC:

    Boruc - Pickford
    Pieters - Amat - Shaw - Evans - Souare
    Øzil - Firmino - Sterling - Hazard - King
    Ibra - Tekkers - Bony

Do I need any changes? Plan is to go without Ibra when Kun is back and do Ibra + Sterling -> Kun + 7.0 mid. (Then have King + 7.0 to rotate with in mid)

I like it. Just hope antonio is still affordable for you then.

Personally id just get capoue over king. Watford have good fixtures coming up and youll have a decent safety blanket.

    Foster / Schmeichel**

    Shaw / Stones** / Kone / Friend** / Amat

    Barkley / Hazard / Tadic / Capoue / Fletcher

    Kun** / Ibrahimovic / Gray**

    1.3 ITB & 1 FT.

With Kun & Gray looking to be banned.. I will need them out.
Also Friend & Stones are potentially injured with many players in sh** form.

    I was looking at doing;
Kun, Gray & Tadic - Benteke, Lukaku & Sanchez (-8).

    Or should I just WC?

Not a big fan of anyone in that price bracket. Lanzini is interesting but not sure about his game time. Lots of competition in those positions and just back from injury. Rodriguez looked good but he's nowhere near nailed. Pereyra or Januzaj would be my pick.

Don't forget that was played at LB, he like Moreno was woeful there and I don't think there is a spot for him in midfield. As a Liverpool fan I'd rather him at LB instead of Moreno now but expect a fair few benchings especially if he cant get a midfield spot.

So avoid Milner, leaves Mane - Firmino - Coutinho in that order for me.

Personally I would steer clear of the lot of them. Firstly, Mane has long promised big things and his inconsistency has been his failure. I don't yet see why a move to Liverpool will be a drastic improvement from a very well functioning Saints team. Secondly he's prone to getting dropped to the bench after international fixtures and picking up niggles, so typically is a sub in 6-10 games each season. And thirdly he's competing for points with Firmino, Coutino, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Milner, Sturridge and Origi. He's an exciting player with potential but for me there's just far too many downsides for a player without any set pieces. Think about investing the money a different way

Sunderland Echo reporting Moyes could switch to 3 at the back following the arrival of Denayer.

    PVA could be absolute gold.

Next to Williams he's the best 5.0

I still like Stones and think he'll be a good pick.

Wish I could be as optimistic with him

Between PVA and Masuaku for me. But PVA as a wing back is a no brainer

I got him in last week because at the time his ICT index ratings were off the charts for a defender, and I heard a Sunderland fan describe him as "playing like he is possessed right now" (I assume that's a good thing". Hopefully he can come up with some more goals over the next few weeks

I think this swings it for me. Going Williams, Shaw, Van Aan, 4.5, 4.1 for a cheapish, effective defence.

It isn't cheap but think I'm doing the same thing.
