Suspensions and late transfer window deals left many of our community’s best-laid plans in tatters.

Our hot topic posters sift through the cinders of a fiery transfer deadline day and the knock-on effect on wildcards wielded over the international break.

Meanwhile, our community articles look back at a disastrous set of predictions for the Scouts last weekend. Our Members tables focus on attacking defenders and midfield maestros and we also take a look at those best placed to cope with evolving team sheets at the top of our community competitions.

The Community Articles

Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s lack of goals last weekend meant our Scout predictions were less than successful during Gameweek 3, according to Andy85wsm’s latest look at our crystal ball gazing skills.

One of our Spot the Differentials of the near future is likely to be Stoke’s new loan signing Wilfried Bony, who has joined from Manchester City. Zlatan Time, is among our community writers who thinks Stoke boss Mark Hughes has done very well to nab the former Swansea star.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Transfer deadline day proved an eventful one for the community, with rotation and relegation looming large over some teams. Our hot topic the day after the deadline closed looked at the impact of the new arrivals and departures on our plans.

The search for cheap goalkeepers was among the key issues, with Hull’s successful recruitment of David Marshall seemingly sounding the death knell for Eldin Jakupovic’s time as a budget option between the sticks.

Meanwhile, as King Nidge points out, Sunderland’s failure to transfer in Boavista shot stopper Mika Domingues means that our hopes hang on Jordan Pickford in the sub-4.5 keeper bracket. It is worth noting that the Wearsiders are looking for special dispensation to sign another stopper, whilst Pickford withdrew from England Under 21 duties with a thigh problem in midweek.

Everton had mixed fortunes in the transfer window, missing out to Spurs for the signature of Moussa Sissoko, but securing West Ham forward Enner Valencia on loan. Tim Howard’s Beard was on hand to assess the Toffees’ prospects post transfer window.

He also took a look at how Chelsea may line up, following the London side’s recruitment of their former defender David Luiz from Paris Saint Germain, as well as left back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina. Staying with Chelsea, RoysCallerAnne pondered why it is that the Fantasy Premier League bonus point system has such a dislike of their striker Diego Costa.

Another intriguing transfer this week was Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony to Stoke on loan. Andy85wsm takes a look at his chances of success in comparison with another similarly priced striker, Christian Benteke, who swapped Liverpool for Crystal Palace this summer.

Meanwhile, In Like Flynn is less than impressed with some of the high prices clubs are paying for average squad players who may struggle to even secure a regular first XI spot.

Sergio Aguero’s three-match ban, handed out this week after his altercation with Winston Reid last weekend, has also altered many best laid plans. We asked who is wildcarding this week to cope with his loss, while Triggerlips looked at the best time to bring the Argentine striker back in.

Among key targets for wildcarders are West Ham players, who are embarking on a favourable run as Jay’s analysis showed.

Arsenal players are also high on many of the community’s watchlists. But, asked S Kuqi, which of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil represents the best use of our money? For Carpe Diem, Sanchez looks a great option, particularly as the Chilean seems to be unaffected by fatigue when returning from international duty.

With considerable transfer activity anticipated as the international break marches on, Sinik sparked a discussion on the thresholds for price changes. Among those to see their price rocket is Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue. FPLVirgin popped by today to ask whether the budget pick has earned a starting XI berth after his two goals so far this term.

Finally, Diva urged community members to look beyond overall rank history when receiving advice.

The Members Tables

Manchester City’s midfield talent come under scrutiny in Ziro’s latest table. He also spent this week looking over Liverpool’s attacking options. Meanwhile attacking defenders were the subject of Andy85wsm’s most recent table, as well this statistical construction by Flashmule.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing the safety score was 34, which saw 157 managers depart and 2,900 remain.

Cak Juris is the new leader of Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. This is his fifth season and he’s never finished outside the top 11,000.

The Irish Contingent competition, which is organised by HVT, is led by Godot, closely followed in second place by RoysCallerAnne.

Facer retains top spot in the FFS Moderator and Contributors league going into Gameweek 4, closely followed by Evs.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Hope ye can understand what I'm trying to say here.
Is anyone saving WC, taking a -4 and keeping money itb?
Like I'm thinking - downgrade kun to lukaku /benteke and spend some of change on upgrading a mid. Then with money itb and by downgrading gray to cheaper striker therefor enabling you to get kun bk by trading him for ibra this way keeping a strong midfield and playing 352 until you decide to use your WC??

Probably makes no sense at all but it is 1 am.

the problem with the Gray transfer is that we don't have the whole picture yet - it might be better to leave him be, planning ahead is no good imo since your team could run into other troubles along the way (don't know your team obviously).

Taking Kun out and planing to go Ibra > Kun might be a play that will force you into using the WC further ahead (like Ibra explodes and now you're cornered), meaning you've put yourself into a bad spot. Currently Ibra has delivered the good - he looks good, right? Wouldn't it be better if you try to minimize any potential downfall instead of planning how to go down?

i'm not getting Lukaku's draw at the moment, but i seem to be in the minority there.

i prefer Giroud now, but i'm not crazy about him either.

i think there are better options than both.

Chelsea will put 4 or 5 past Swansea, imo. Go with Costa.
And they could easily score another 2 or 3 Vs Liverpool at the Bridge.
      Go with Costa.

I am seeing a lot of good players putting Lukaku into their strikeforce this week.

I have Ibra, Benteke, and need a 3rd.

Lukaku hasn't scored since the dark ages. I saw him play yesterday for Belgium. He
was awful. Obviously lacking confidence, no first touch, making no runs, going through the motions.

Can someone explain to me what I am missing here, please?

Pretty set on this team.. after a week of tinkering

    Heaton
    Baines Valencia McAuley
    Hazard Sanchez Nolito Lamela
    Ibrahimovic Benteke Zaza

    Pickford Copoue Amat Pieters

Looks flexible for future transfers depending on form and fixtures.
No Everton attack is my only concern.

    Thoughts guys

    Nolito>> Mane/Payet/Pogba
    Zaza >> Bony/Negredo/Gray
    Sanchez/Ibrahimovic >> Ozil/Kun

He was their best attacker in those 3 games imo, but understand your concerns. Rotation may also be the case and probably none of them will play every game for 90 minutes, even Lukaku if he still will be missing his chances.

What do people see as he main difference between this season and previous ones strategy wise?
For me it is Two fold.
    1) very good defenders for less than 6m
    2) a huge number of genuine centre forwards at cheap prices. Last season there were hardly any

Negredo, Defoe , Deeney , Zaza , Bony, Benteke, Six right there who have genuine quality. Then there is the new one at Swansea we have not seen yet, Gray and probably a few others.

It is tempting me to try a very different looking wildcard this season, one which will surprise a few

Yeah, I know. Just wondering if I wasn't to remove Kun, where would your spend your free transfer along that backline?

Williams or Masuaku for Stones. Either.

Everton now have some real talent protecting the defence so Williams is almost the perfect CB for 5... but shhhhhhhh.... lol 😉

The signing of Gueye is pretty exciting, his stats were under the radar last year and not far behind Kanté. Once Koeman's defence is set in stone, cleans sheets for days.

Thanks, Costa is definitely tempting but I have no Lei/Ars/Eve attacking cover. I do have Hazard though so I feel he's enough Chelsea cover for now.

Fair enough am nervous about Giroud gametime so with Vardy likely on pens now after Mahrez miss, he or Lukaku edge it for me after Costa in the 9-10 range...

I'm not a fan of Giroud either to be honest, because I think he will be rotated regularly. The two players I'm moving (2 FT) are Aguero and Wickham. If I didn't have Wickham to take care of I would probably upgrade a mid to Sanchez.

Which do you prefer 🙂 ? .. I just think I need Arsenal cover in the back 🙂

    (A) Cech + Valencia + Souare
    (B) Heaton + Monreal* / Kosc. + PVA / Masuaku / Arbeloa

Rest of DEF : Baines - Evans - Amat 🙂

Although I did read a hot topic where someone made a very good case for Heaton and 4.0 backup Burnley keeper, and play Heaton for the season. He doesn't miss games.

I think Loïc Rémy is flying under the radar, by the way.

14 goals in 24 starts for Newcastle the last time he was a starter a few seasons back, I hope he's still got it.

Shaqiri providing a decent striker at last...and he could drop to 6.3 soon due to injury...

I plan on WCing GW6, to get Aguero back in and will have had time to look at more settled squads. Pereyra would be a mid price option I'd be very interested in, and it coincides with a great run of fixtures.

The question is, can I stick with Redmond that long...

    Naive Question Time...
If i have already made transfers and taken a -4 hit this week, does using wildcard now prevent the -4 hit?

If this was Gameweek 23 and Aguero was banned for two games would folk still be activating wildcards to remove him? Why is it so different in Gameweek 4 and surely it is a little more insane, purely because we know a lot less than we will in Gameweek 23?

Teams are more settled by that time less need to WC, plus better to save for dgwk's. Don't think it's all down to Kun that ppl are wc'ing also

But is is more of a reason to wildcard than not. I don't think folk would even sell Kun on a 2 match ban, let alone wildcard in the middle of the season.

I think most people were already looking to WC at this point anyways (first introduced break is always popular time). Another difference in mid-season is that you'd be losing out on price if he's say 13.6 at the point you sell him

I think many planned this because the heavy midfielders were only ever coming back now, bar Hazard. I did anyway. As for WC because of Kun? That's a bit shaky tbh, folk should think hard.
