Welcome to the first of a series of articles that will be looking at DraftKing’s contests and key picks throughout the season.

In a selection of weeks we’ll be putting forward a roster of eight players who, based on DraftKing’s scoring rules, we think should prove profitable picks.

We’ll also be providing Focus articles for some of the Champions League contests that DraftKings offer, starting next week.

DraftKings has a fantastic new welcome offer this week that gives new players the opportunity to get four free entries for just £5.

Read on for details of how to take advantage of this offer and the chance to take part in a contest with £20,000 worth of prizes.

DraftKings Saturday contests take place over two different slates of Premier League games this weekend. The biggest prize pools are offered on the seven matches starting at 3pm, with additional contests offered on the eight fixtures starting at 12:30pm.

DraftKings have recently added a new feature where certain players, such as Alexis Sanchez, have dual classification, so they can be selected as either Midfielders or Forwards. This allows more flexibility in your selections and, combined with the Utility spot, means playing five midfielders is now a possibility.

To form a water-tight strategy ahead of DraftKings Saturday contests, check out our player selection guide before you sign up for an account at this link.

We’ve also set up a Fantasy Football Scout League to allow you to track and join our contests and take on the team and the community.
Join our league via this link.

My Team

GK Tom Heaton $5,000
D Hector Bellerin $4,700
D Alvaro Arbeloa $4,000
M Andros Townsend $7,600
M James Milner $7,000
F Salomon Rondon $6,700
F Alexis Sanchez $9,400
UTIL Ben Davies $3,600

Key Picks

Between the sticks, only Hull City’s Eldin Jakupovic ($4,800) has a better average points per game score than Burnley number one Tom Heaton. The two shot stoppers face each other on Saturday and we prefer the Clarets keeper’s home comforts for this one – Heaton has made 18 saves already, worth two points each on DraftKings, and kept a clean sheet against Liverpool in his previous outing at Turf Moor.

Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin offers excellent value at $4,700. The Gunners faced Liverpool and Leicester in the opening two matches and lacked several first team players before building momentum with a 3-1 win at Watford. The full-back has registered seven crosses and created three chances in that run, which he should continue against Southampton.

If West Ham’s new signing Alvaro Arbeloa starts, the right-back should have plenty of opportunity to raid down the flank as Watford visit the Olympic Stadium. Only Hull (60) have allowed more crosses on their left flank than the Hornets’ 47 over three matches. We’ve left some funds in the bank so that if the former Real Madrid player doesn’t start we can swap in Hammers right-back Arthur Masuaka ($5,100) who has produced seven crosses this term.

Andros Townsend appears ideally suited to the DraftKings scoring matrix. Crosses are an integral part of the game, each being worth 0.75, and the former Spurs man has already racked up 25 crosses this term. Combined with his propensity to fire in shots – he’s had 12 attempts  (worth a point each) – we are confident of returns ahead of a trip to Middlesborough.

There are a few more options in the $7k to $8k price range we’re considering for the second midfield spot.

James Milner‘s 16 crosses over two matches makes the Liverpool midfielder a tempting prospect for the visit of Leicester City, and there’s the added advantage that he takes penalties, as illustrated against Spurs. Another player on set-pieces, Santi Cazorla ($7,400), has also netted a penalty, whilst a total of 15 crosses bodes well for the Gunners midfielder, who has had a promising start to the season, averaging 14.1 fantasy points per game (FFPG) on DraftKings so far.

After scoring in back-to-back matches, Michail Antonio ($7,600) is another option, an in-form and cheaper alternative to Dimitri Payet ($9,400).

As we mentioned in the Weekly Shop, Salomon Rondon has been a favourite of ours this season, averaging 9.5 FFPG points and firing 17 attempts on goal. The Baggies striker scored against Bournemouth in Gameweek 37 last season and will fancy his chances of a repeat performance against the Cherries, who have conceded 33 shots inside the area- only Burnley have allowed more.

Alexis Sanchez is our big-hitter this week. The Chilean’s goal and two assists at Vicarage Road demonstrated his ability to bring in explosive hauls and we’re hoping for more of the same when the Saints visit North London.

Anyone here considering Wilson as a Kun enabler further down the line? on pens and has shown last season that he can be explosive

He scored a hattrick away from home?

Certainly showed by that alone he can be explosive

he scored 5 goals in 4 weeks, with one hattrick. Was also the championship's top scorer the season before. I won't be risking until he hints at that form again vassell but yes, Frank Black, he was definitely explosive.

Yes in a very short run of fixtures. Then he got seriously injured, that's not enough to judge a player.

Vassell's comment was he's proved 'he can be explosive'. That is true even if it only happened once. If he'd said he's proved he is 'consistently' anything then you're right. As it is he's in a not that huge group of players in the premiership right now who have scored a league hattrick, so yes, if he starts banging them in again you'd be unwise to ignore it.

    Got bottomed out on this.

    Current WC team:

    Foster (Pickford)
    Collins Williams Shaw (Amat Kingsley)
    Antonio Sanchez Ozil Hazard Payet
    Lukaku Benteke (Diomande)

I have 0.4m ITB right now (which can be used for a defensive upgrade). Might have a bit more if certain price rises happen. I'm happy to go without Ibra right now, what are your thoughts on this?

I can have Sterling instead of Payet and upgrade the defense further as well.

Midfield is absolute quality. Looks like a team that's only set up for the short term though, but should do very well over the next few gws. Any plan for getting Aguero back in? Looks like it could be awkward. I'd change Kingsley if you can get anyone else for that 0.4

      1. WHY ALWAYS MESUT?
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

I agree - it's definitely for the short term. It's a decently sized short term though.

That said, most of those fixtures last for over 6 weeks, so that gives me enough transfers to tweak as needed.

There's a few ways to get Kun in. I will likely go Lukaku + Sanchez/Payet/Ozil/Hazard to Kun + 7-8.5m midfielder. The advantage is that I can use these two weeks to decide who to downgrade.

Don't really know if you're still going to want to sell Ozil.

It'd make sense if you had Sanchez and decided to downgrade to Ozil to get Kun back in but if both are doing good and you go without an Arsenal attacker when they have a good run of fixtures that could make you lose a few points.

I posted this last night. My take on City mids

Sane and Gundogen are back from injury

After the Derby, which has a high probability of being low scoring, we play in the Champions League.

Pep will want to give minutes to Sane and Gundogen and the CL and more so BOU at home is a great opportunity to do that

Pep also likes to rotate and KdB can be moved into a more advanced role to replace Sterling or Nolito with Gundogen Playing CM alongside Silva

Sane could replace Sterling/Nolito and whilst I don't think iheanacho will start on Saturday there is a good chance he could do v BOU....then Sergio is back

For me there is too much risk and the cash spent on Sterling or Nolito will soon be wanted to get Kun back in your team

Nice team. The dillema is if Ibra is on fire. What's your plan B?

Right, not been reading the comments because I'm on holiday. What's the consensus on replacing Aguero for the next two weeks?

Aguero + Lamela out for whom? Sanchez & Lukaku? Ozil & Kane? Talk to me.

Questions marks on Sanchez after intl break, Kane hasn't done anything yet and Lukaku nothing since March. Ozil looks a good bet but all good options

Ozil and Kane is the smart choice.

Alexis has a decent chance to not start tomorrow and Kane is way easier to upgrade back to Aguero.

Can anyone give me thoughts on these please? Which one should I start from the following

    A. Capoue or Redmond

    B. Shaw or Kone

Capoue and Shaw ( Man Derby could likely end 0-0 or 1-0 to United).. Capoue with easier fixture than Redmond

        Redmond OOP though

OOP yes but not getting the points.. Arsenal defense looking much stronger as well

He scored a goal in 3 so it's not like he's given us no hope. I agree Ars def is strengthened with Mustafi but I think that will be an open game and Southampton will have chances.

Having said that, I want rid of Redmond myself, but I'd play him over Cap.

    All set to go? WC

    Heaton / Foster
    Kosc / Baines / Evans / Collins / Amat
    Hazard / Sanchez / Sterling / Redmond / Capoue
    Ibra / Lukaku / Diomande

Not too sure on Redmond. Thoughts? 1.0 ITB (possible upgrades for Dio and Red?)

If you're going diamond as a bench warmer I'd do Redmond > Antonio personally

What do you think of Redmond > Snoddy ? Antonio actually makes things a bit complicated to get Aguero. 3 transfers needed then for GW6.

Is diomande going to keep his place? Rethink needed imo

If I was WC I would drop Redmond. I think over the next 3-4 weeks Pereyra is my replacement for Redmond. Might be a bit early on him now though.

I think Diomande is fine, but there's shag all mids that the extra 1 brings into range.

      Snoodgrass?

means every week you're starting either capoue or diomande. (unless you're happy consistently playing 4-4-2)

i wouldn't want to be in those shoes.

    Think i'm finally settled.

    Heaton / Pickford
Baines / Valencia / Van Aanholt / Amat / Love
    Hazard / Cazorla / Firmino / Lanzini / Hojbjerg
    Lukaku / Ibra / Costa

    ?? thoughts ??

Too late to WC in GW4? Quite few price risers in this international week, so have not missed out much, or?

Whats your team? As a general rule I would say its better to WC early, but definitely not too late... really depends on your team though

        Subs: Stones, AMat, Capoue

        made 2 transfers (-4)

Not too late if your team needs it. You may have lost 0.5 if you get people who have risen now but the name of the game is points over team value.

    Hows this WC team?

    Foster - Jaku

    Baines - Valencia - McAuley - Collins - Amat

    Hazard - Ozil - Coutinho - Antonio - Capoue

    Ibrahimovic - Lukaku - Defoe

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated
