Diego Costa scores twice as Eden Hazard bring home a one-point return. Leroy Fer strengthens his claim as a budget midfielder, whilst Stephen Kingsley seems to have convinced Francesco Guidolin he’s a worthy starter. Here’s the Stock Check following today’s events..

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Whilst Eden Hazard offered us nothing more than a yellow card, Costa maintained his momentum under Antonio Conte by netting both of the Blues’ goals at the Liberty.

Over 362,000 FPL managers turned to Costa as a result of Sergio Aguero’s suspension last week and today’s display means is the only forward to score or assist in all four Gameweeks.

Conte has failed to curb the Spain international’s penchant for falling foul of referees, though – this afternoon’s caution was his third of the season, continuing a run that has seen him booked in every league match that he has scored in this term.

Leroy Fer
Along with Etienne Capoue, the Swansea midfielder continues to bely his budget price tag, with this afternoon’s goal a third in the first four Gameweeks.

Granted, the upcoming fixtures continue to look dire but having scored against Leicester and Chelsea in back-to-back fixtures, Fer seems to have the form to prevail.

Capoue’s cheaper price (4.7 to the Dutchman’s 5.2) and kind set of fixtures from Gameweek 6 suggests he’s likely to remain the favoured fifth midfielder.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Without a goal or assist in the first three Gameweeks, the Swansea playmaker had dropped to 7.3 ahead of Chelsea’s visit.

Sigurdsson’s spot-kick duties came to the rescue, though, and with a couple of bonus points also in the bag, his season now looks up and running.

Fer may currently be the form option, yet Siggurdsson is established Fantasy royalty and could be one to consider when the fixtures start to improve in Gameweek 9.

Stephen Kingsley
The Scot was expected to drop to the bench to accommodate Neil Taylor’s return but instead retained a role in the first XI thanks to a change in tactics by Francesco Guidolin.

The Swansea manager’s decision to begin with a 3-5-1-1 allowed Kingsley to start for the fourth successive Gameweek, stationed alongside Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez in a back three, with Taylor utilised as a left wing-back.

Guidolin’s first-half decision to haul off Taylor and bring on Mo Barrow suggests Kingsley may well be ahead in the pecking order.

Regardless, with Southampton, City, Liverpool and Arsenal next, he looks set for a spot on our FPL benches for now.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it was his first blank of the season.

Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that if Hazard had delivered yet again today, the bandwagon would have kicked into overdrive.

Although a rare off day will certainly be forgiven by his owners, some would-be suitors may now think twice over bringing in the Belgian right now.

With the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Roberto Firmino and Michail Antonio all bagging double-figure hauls ahead of some great fixtures, Chelsea’s schedule – which sees them face Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester and Man United in the next five Gameweeks – could prove enough of a short-term deterrent.

The Chelsea Defence
Antonio Conte handed new boys David Luiz and Marcos Alonso a place amongst the substitutes, opting instead to keep faith in the defence that produced a clean sheet against Burnley in the previous Gameweek.

Branislav Ivanovic may have collected an assist for Costa’s acrobatic leveler yet the nature of Chelsea’s capitulation indicates their backline is very much a work in progress right now.

Given the aforementioned fixtures, Conte will be desperate to address his rearguard’s shortcomings. With John Terry doubtful for Liverpool’s visit with an ankle problem, the Italian may well consider a reshuffle against Jurgen Klopp’s in-form attack.

Neil Taylor
Hauled off just 40 minutes into his first appearance of the season, the left-back looked none too happy with his manager’s decision as Swansea reverted to a back-four.

Post-match, Guidolin apologised, conceding he should have replaced the Wales international at the break, though the bottom line is that Taylor now seems to have fallen behind the cut-price Kingsley as the Italian’s preferred left-back for now.

Hi mate poxy week for me with the derby defeat and a poor showing FPL wise 🙁

Derby was a great game and obviously disappointed with the result but have no complaints tbh City were fantastic.. hopefully losing this early to City will be a blessing in disguise just the kick up the arse the manager needs

Was a shocking GW for everyone. Don't be too bummed out.

I was happy with City's first half. Very solid. Bravo was a huge concern though, never expected that. United need to work on their midfield balance.

Just pay the four points. I did. We made a mistake not drafting Capoue, but now is the time to eat the mistake and pay for it....not later. There could be big money to be made off of cape for the long game.

Snodgrass and Joshua King is probably the best picks. Snodgrass has set pieces and is 100% nailed, while King could be rotated if you look at it long term.

If JUST for the next GW (i.e., you are wildcarding in GW6), I think you should look hard at Redmond (SWA), Zaha (STO), or Bolasie (MID), depending on how he does tomorrow.

Which, if any, seems like the better transfer. I am planning on wildcarding in GW6 to get Aguero back:

    A. Hobjberg to Capoue - This is more admin, will get Capoue on the WC but don't want to miss the price rises.

    B. Negrado to Iheanacho - Exciting right!?

    C. Neither

Weird question, don't question the logic and just try to answer it 🙂

Is it better to take a -8 hit in one week or spread it over two weeks? Factor in H2H leagues if that's a factor in your choice.

In a week where a lot of people are taking hits I don't mind taking one more as your cancelling a hit out.

In theory if your playing a head to head against a poor rival it may be worth it to set yourself up for the next tie. Rather than weaken yourself for two weeks running

Not that I think of, with their being a short turnaround and a lot probably did last week with Aguero out.

Definitely two (-4)'s for H2H leagues.

It's easy to spot a weakness in an opponents team for one week if you just concentrate on H2H's...

It's a completely different game to OR...If your opponent doesn't have this weeks hot property of Antonio or Costa then who cares what they might score for FPL. In H2H the weak point is that they are forced to have Friend away to City...or something similar...

I love H2H's and small mini leagues for that reason...OR is kak...

    Stones, Valencia, Bellerin or Snodgrass

Yeah I did plan on playing 442 for a good few weeks but had a bright idea to upgrade Capoue to Snodgrass as an alternative. He did leave it late but from the highlights looked imprerssive

on a wildcard before this week. Kind of wasn't sure he would persist.

exactly. 9 points from Snodgrass was sweet enough. I don't mind paying 5m for him if he is still banging them in

    Costa / Gray / Ibrahimovic

    Bench: Jaku, Amat, Capoue, Friend

Is Ighalo about to be on a streak? From GW 6 he's got a great run of fixtures. If i remember correctly this is more or less the period he hit form last season.

If you had the option would you go for:

    A) Sterling & Ozil
    B) KdB & Carzola

*Could also opt for KdB, Sterling and Carzola but unsure on doubling up on City midfielders. Opinions appreciated

Current team heading into GW5, any constructive thoughts would be much appreciated, have 1 free transfer to use.

    GK: Dea (valdes)

DEF: Valencia, stones, Williams (Morgan, vandijk)

MID: Hazard, Antonio, firmino, lamela (Redmond )

    STR: Vardy, Benteke, Negrado

My current thinking is to swap out either Redmond or Negrado, most likely Negrado

    1. Frank Black

Lose Van Dijk and at least one between Redmond and Lamela. Vardy is taking away too much money you could use to improve your team.

          get in Costa
          get in Ars Mid

I'm on 211 points ranked 264,306. I'll take that rank considering two GW ago I was almost 2 millionth in overall rank. I've actually had luck in GW 3 I had no Ibrahimovic or aguero and they both blanked and in GW 4 I avoided the Arsenal midfielders

I think what saves us is that aguero costs a hell a lot more than ibra. No matter the rise rise unless ibra looks like he'll score 30

If anything, i'll happily swap ibra out for aguero. Dont forget u can do that
