West Ham’s dire form shows no sign of abating, as Southampton march into the London Stadium and take three points, with Charlie Austin amongst the goals once again. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s encounter….

On the Rise

Charlie Austin
Having scored four goals in the previous three across all competitions, the Saints striker was granted a second Premier League start of the season by Claude Puel. Austin vindicated that decision with the opener and also supplied the assist for Dusan Tadic’s goal; he is clearly in the midst of a hot streak right now.

With Leicester City, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next six, though, the fixtures are hardly in his favour.

Dusan Tadic
After a slow start to the season, the Serbian continues to build momentum. Tadic opened the campaign with a trio of blanks but has since served up points in each of the subsequent three. Assists against Arsenal and Swansea City were followed up with an ice-cool finish against the Hammers as the Saints chalked up a fourth straight win in all competitions.

Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for the Saints in the Premier League after keeping out Swansea City last weekend. Ryan Bertrand earned his first attacking points of the season with an assist for Austin’s goal, while Cedric Soares mirrored his fellow full-back for bonus with two apiece.

The duo have now served up 18 and 17 points respectively in the last couple of Gameweeks as Puel’s approach finally takes hold.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Much was expected of the Hammers today, from what was the first of four home matches in six. While Michail Antonio’s kinder price may persuade some to hold ahead of visits from Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Sunderland, the premium priced Payet may well be seen as surplus to requirements. Yet to score in the league so far, he has been subject to more transfers out than any midfielder this term and that trend may well continue in light of today’s uninspiring display.

Michail Antonio
Antonio’s stock also takes a dent following the tactical tweaks from Slaven Bilic. With the Hammers chasing the game, Bilic replaced Håvard Nordtveit with striker Ashley Fletcher on 71 minutes. Antonio was then shifted to become an attacking right-back – a move which could become familiar should West Ham find themselves in a similar scenario again. Given their form, that seems likely.

James Collins
The Welshman’s run in West Ham’s first XI came to an end after he dropped out of the squad today. Having started each of the first five, Collins – who rose to 9% ownership in FPL – was clearly earmarked as the fall guy, with Winston Reid returning to partner Angelo Ogbonna at centre-half. Today’s capitulation may well force another rethink, though – the Hammers have now shipped 14 goals in the last four.

    Good morning,
    so here is my situation:

0.4 ITB with 1 FT and WC used.

    Foster Jaku
    Williams Lovren Holebas Amat Smith
    Sanchez Firmino Sterling Antonio Capoue
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

do I save my FT? I was thinking on shipping Antonio out for Lallana. Just seems very good value for money and Liverpool worth doubling up. Increases your chances on the lottery ticket..
Other one is to cash in on jake and get pickford just before he rises 0.1 in the coming days.
And who to captain? don't have zlatan, so I was thinking Sanchez, Rashford, Lukaku in that order of preference.

Who are the best defensive replacements for Shaw and Baines?

Antonio agony....what's the general consensus on here? Shifted back to defense and in a team obviously struggling for form. Those good fixtures dont count for too much when your getting beaten by Westbrom and Southampton which could have been regarded as "easier" fixtures. I could make a straight swap to Lallana or a more Maverick move of Firmino ➡️ Couts and Valencia ➡️ Son -4

Getting off players at the right time is key, just as important as getting them in.
Watched the game, West Ham were so so poor, no sign of being unlucky or could easily get better.
Wouldnt do for a hit but could be the right time for a Lallana swap ( I own Antonio)

    Morning FFSers,

My midfield and attack is currently lined up like this:

    Ozil - Firmino - Sterling - Antonio - Capoue
    Lukaku - Kun - Tekkers

I am contemplating Firm > Walcott and Ozil > Sanchez to double up on Arsenal over the coming weeks. Both look explosive and at the moment I find it hard to justify picking a Liverpool mid with the current points spread.

    Thoughts?

I also have the issue of Masuake in defence but lets not go there (have Amat so can't downgrade to get Sanchez)

Worried about not having Sanchez but would have to take a hit and lose Ibra which doesn't seem right

    Pickford
    Valenica, Williams, Holebas
    Mane, Sterling, Antonio, Capoue
    Aguero, Ibra(c), Lukaku

    Heaton, Snodgrass, Evans, Amat

    A. Save?

Is it unusual for me to still have my wildcard? It seems like every man and his dog has wildcarded.

It felt too early to use it (especially in GW 3), as there was so much choice and it felt like a volatile, unpredictable season were things could change quickly.

It's a good thing, although you may want to start thinking about when you trigger it.

There will be a few GWs where fixtures 'pivot' (i.e Arsenal and Liverpool now have a great run), so best to WC then to take full advantage.

I usually try and wait but this season I used mine for week 4. Had a shocking start, falling just below average in each of first 3 weeks. Every week since I've comfortable beaten the average and have been climbing my leagues so it was a good call to use it early.

I've usually wildcarded around GW4-6 as I'm 800k but this year I was 5k so was in a conundrum. I did WC last week as I wanted Ag and had 4 players I didn't want and I've still moved up to 4.1k with 2 to play. WC early is the way to build team value. I believe it's always the way to go.

    Morning FFSers,

    (bottomed from last page)

My midfield and attack is currently lined up like this:

    Ozil - Firmino - Sterling - Antonio - Capoue
    Lukaku - Kun - Tekkers

I am contemplating Firm > Walcott and Ozil > Sanchez to double up on Arsenal over the coming weeks. Both look explosive and at the moment I find it hard to justify picking a Liverpool mid with the current points spread.

I could also do Antonio > Walcott and forget about Sanchez. Which actually makes a whole lot of sense to me thinking about it.

Yes I think Walcott + Ozil double up may serve me well over the next 4GW.

Wenger doesn't rotate when his team is playing well and after that Chelsea game, and with Ramsey injured, I see no real threat to Walcott given his form.

Only when Sturridge is benched. Somehow Firmino doesn't get in the points when Sturridge is on the bench, although he is very involved, just unlucky a few times.

That's my observation. Will monitor Sturridge case in the future. Firmino owner here. Had him both times this year (4 goals, 5 goals - no involvement, sold him in my WC he got a brace :))

So maybe I just have to sell him for all of you to benefit from it 🙂

Reading the article above, is it too early for Antonio to be in decline? It's his first blank in a while....others shipping him? Who at that price range is anywhere near as explosive?

Far too early. West Ham won't get gubbed every game that's not how footy works

Give him another week at least home to Mid to turn it around. Tbf Saints have turned a corner.

Walcott, Son and Lallana all looking good in that price bracket. Not sure I want to sell Antonio right away but if they continue like this there confidence will be zero and their attacking threat will lessen.

    2 FT, should I....

    A. Antonio > Tadic
    B. Snodgrass > Tadic

To do B I would have to do Mane > Lallana.

Surely you've got Snodgrass for GW8 and beyond?

I'd keep both and find another transfer or burn the FT.

Snodgrass have great fixtures from GW8, and Antonio's next 3 look tasty.

1 ft, 0.4 in the bank.
Worried about not having Sanchez. 30 points behind in my cash mini league and if Ibra blanks and Sanchez hauls it could go to 60 ish by next week.

    Pickford
    Valenica, Williams, Holebas
    Mane, Sterling, Antonio, Capoue
    Aguero, Ibra(c), Lukaku

    Heaton, Snodgrass, Evans, Amat

    A. Save?
    B. Antonio to Walcott?
    C. Ibra + Antonio to Defoe + Sanchez(c) -4?

    a) Redmond to 5.5/ Ozil to Sanchez
    b) Shaw to 4.5-5/ Ozil to Sanchez

Feel inclined to keep Redmond now with the good underlying stats. I think Sou will score against Lei

    a) get rid of hazard for sanchez?
    b) get rid of costa and Ibra for Aguero and Deeny?
    c) is it worth investiong indefenders like Walker or Valencia
    d) Deeny Rondon or Austin

Chill your beans and list those on importance. If you don't have Aguero I wouldn't be worrying about Rondon, Walker or Austin. Work out how to get Aguero and then Sanchez. Then worry about the rest.
