A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Foster (Pickford)
    Kos, Smith, Pieters (Evans, Amat)
    Ozil, Walcott, Mane, Firmino (Cap)
    Aguero, Benteke, Lukaku

    1 FT, 0.0

Save or sell Capoue to bench fodder?

    Both going, but who first?

    Allen for Capoue (Swansea)

    Allen for Redmond (City)

Can't decide who will score most points next week, Capoue with the easier fixture but seems to be finished and Redmond scored today. No idea how I'm still left with these two tbh!

I've gotten rid of Capoue. Definitely boarded that bandwagon too late. Allen's fixtures and form make him a no-brainer.

    Heaton Pickford
    Valencia Williams Evans Friend Amat
    Sanchez Firmino Son Antonio Capoue
    Aguero Costa Rashford

    1 FT, 0.2 itb

That defence looks a state. Evans has to go but it can wait another week I suppose as he doesn't look like dropping anytime soon. Walcott is in red hot form and I fear a lot in my private league will get him in this week.

How does Antonio and Williams to Walcott and Pieters for -4 look?

    RP..choose one:

    A) valencia, capoue -> mustafi, 4.4
    B) williams, capoue -> vertonghen, caquelin
    C) valencia, snodgrass -> koscielny, allen

AH so you need a replacement!?

I've gotten Allen in already... impulse buy I already am worried about bc of the UCL games haha

That said, I'm convinced my transfer is a good one and one you might wana look at - I've done Capoue (no longer performing) for Allen (performing + insane fixtures). Feel like if you have a cheap 4th mid you should invest FTs in keeping them up to date with the form cheapie...

0.0 itb and Ibra burning a hole in my pocket!

Jevans out for Holebas? ...If I sell Ibra for Costa I obviously will have lots of cash for defensive upgrades.

Costa annoyingly rising tonight before Ibra plays tomorrow, but Jevans out is more important since he's a week in week out defender. Amat plays otherise!

Alternatively I could get the stoke GK and Stones or a 5.0 in for Jevans

    Stumped atm!

    Pickford - Foster

    Amat Kingsley Vert Jevans Kosc

    Son Wally Sanchez Cap Cout

    Ibra Aguero Diomande

Pulis parked the bus, Jevans got frustrated when it didn't work out! 1 match ban.

As I said above, I've gone Capoue to Allen already. Allen's form and fixtures (if you don't have a Stoke player already, which you don't) make him really difficult to ignore.

    From rough to the smooth...

Yesterday I scored 20 (-8) with 3 players to go and Aguero as captain. I felt like giving up with FPL.

    Today I had 2 players - Holebas & Austin.

My points hits have paid off (I rarely take points hits) and after starting Sunday on 12 points with only my 3rd striker and 4th defender playing my overall rank has a green arrow.

I have never had such a rough to smooth framework before!

Any ideas what to with Antonio ? West Ham played a new system, which now means playing right back.

Costa(C) and Wally are my only saviours this GW. In a GW where defenders like Holebas and GKs like Grant made hay , I had to do with a defense of McAuley,Shaw and Williams 🙁

By the way , have Defoe as my 3rd striker .

Will Defoe > Austin makes sense especially before Southampton face City or shall I wait for one more GW for Defoe and meanwhile upgrade one of my defenders . If so , who will be the one target defender that I should rope in ?

I have 0.9 itb as well.

I'd love to get Austin in but realised the reason I didn't get him on a WC was because of fixtures. City away is never a good fixture.

Exactly . Guess I would fancy Defoe for another weak against Hammers.

More focussed on getting a Bournemouth/Arsenal defender. Any suggestions?

True, but check Austin's goal scoring record. He's made a habit of scoring v the big teams

Still not enough of a reason to go for him. City are strong

Considering City's goal conceding acumen , even in their home ground , against Everton...anything can happen.

Right. Time to hold that FT. No need to knee jerk after a WC. Just as well price changes aren't a big factor at the moment.
