A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Trying to shave a few quid to get funds to eventually turn Stones into a better defender. Best way of raising those funds?

    A) Deeney > Austin
    B) Sterling > Son
    C) Foster > Grant (Pickford other goalie)
    D) Capoue > preferably 4.3mid, 4.4 max
    E) Forget it, City got the fixtures, cleanies will come.

Thanks, only leaves Rose available if 4.4. Walker and Mustafi available if a 4.3 but I suppose with M.Wilson as a 5th defender I can't afford a 4.3 mid.

Whether you pick a 4.4 or a 4.3 I think downgrading Capoue is your best option. He's set to decrease in price soon and you might as well cash in on him while you can.

True, Sterling could drop this week too, another pain.

you know what i did, i went foster > grant for that same reason, raise some dinero. already got a cs from grant he still got the fxt. butland will come around mid nov so still time.

other option capoue but for whelan from stk. cokelin if 4.3. capoue could also rise to 5.5 and u get that extra .1.

option a u hav to wait for some fixtures still

Leave Sterling. I contemplated Arse defender last week for hit. Didn't do thankfully. I'm chasing Allen or cheap good fixture def like Cameron. Grant now probably there for 4-5 a way to free up cash. Worry about expensive def later

Don't know if I want Ibra to score a brace tomorrow or to blank so I can justify selling him and using the funds to upgrade my defence and midfield.

If he gets a brace I still think I'd keep him. If he is scoring, he is making my team better

Precisely. I don't really see the value in rooting AGAINST the players you own 🙂

But if you need to upgrade your defense and midfield, at some point you'll have to make a tough decision.

    A) Evans->Pieters/Cameron

    E) Save.

Evening mate, jealous of you having Walker in your team. Defo wouldn't play AOAwith Walker, Clyne and Holebas. Even if Walker is CL rest/rotated Amat looks good. Just boils down to Deeney v Austin form v fixtures for you.

What's up Jay? Walker hasn't gotten me much yet. Benched him against City 🙂 If i keep AOA, thinking Amat as the 3rd, of course that was before King Holebas scored today. Willing to wit on Austin until after Deeney gets HUL at home.

        1. Jay_
          9 years, 10 months ago

Your Walker is my Stones and I'm trying my hardest to reverse that lol. You must have a good TV. Your Jaku is my Foster and your Evans is my 4.0. Apart from that we've got 12 same lol. Success seems to be the main WAT man now though, Deeney don't feel me with confidence.

TV is 103.9, SV is 102. Defense has been a crapshoot all year, sometimes just feel like throwing a dart lol. Fair point about Success and Austin does seem like he can score against anyone. Tough call this week as I don't see the need to take a hit for both he and Allen.

    b) Walker Mustafi* Holebas Amat Martina*

Holebas is one card away from ban , Amat is pretty much 1 pointer..would you rather have Mustafi a/w another playing defender (Martina) to rotate with , or utilize that extra 0.2m to have Kosc instead of Mustafi ?

I think his stock has peaked. His price looks like it might fall this week or it's trending that way. His stats have fallen a bit, not like they were great even when he was getting those fpl points. He's regressing to the mean as they say. Time to sell for a tidy 0.4m profit (if you got him at 4.5) imo

I have noticed that very few of the top 10 in the world have Aguero or Ibra. In fact, none of the top 10 have Ibra. 3-4 have Aguero. Is this a sign to sell up?

It's more a sign of Aguero & Ibra not scoring highly over the last 3 or 4 weeks.
I find the top 10's previous history relevant in this matter personally.

Well, Aguero was out because of the elbow and then rested for the CL this week. Ibra has played well but just blanked too much. I really think Ibra will punish me if I sell him but I also think the funds he will give me will help a lot.

Ibra is that conundrum, I got rid couple of gameweeks ago. Aguero however is a proven asset.
Tough decision with Ibra but thst's the game.

    Hello guys,
I have 5m in the bank and plan to get a LIV mid in next week for Puncheon.
In addition to this, if you were in my shoes, would you take a hit (-4) to swap out Cazorla for Walcott?

I would but I fear you maybe a little late to the Walcott party (I hope not as I have him). But as they say, better late than never!

Well I've just done the Caz-Wal trade and a LIV milf is a necessity i.e. Firmino. Do it.

Cheers all, I probably will just go for it (thinking Mane/Firmino + Walcott in for Puncheon + Cazorla).

I don't have Sanchez so is it viable to consider Milner + Sanchez?

Think the first move's best though?

I was stuck between Denney & Austin last week and chose Deeney so will stick with him for now. Sorry that I didnt go with Austin though as he looks nailed for pens now also.

I got this gut feeling on Bony with the fixtures coming up -his stats are dire though. Thinking Rashford > Bony for a hit. Please don't laugh too much at this suggestion?

Form over fixtures IMO. I'd rather wait until Bony starts to get into some sort of form before I get him. In saying that, I do expect him to pick up soon. He was always a slow starter even in his Swansea days and I feel that a good run of form is just around the corner.

      Their run looks great but...
Prehaps try and get Arnautivic or even the Welsh Xavi into your team?
Watched Bony a couple of times now and he looks dire, maybe it's a fitness issue still, I dunno. GL

I don't know if Allen is the next Capoue though? Arnie looks a safer bet that Bony but just don't want to lose any of my mids right now. Would you consider Sterling to Arnie over Rashford to Bony?

        1. jia you
          • 10 Years
          9 years, 10 months ago

Prob not, but I'd like to get Arnie in if I'm honest...but I have far more pressing issues unfortunately!
See how Rashford look's tonight but I havent even considered bringing him in yet (this coming from a utd fan who would only love to bring in a utd player to my team, maybe Blind in a couple of weeks).

I just don't really rate him. He looked dire when he played last season and he has looked dire this season. If he picks up then consider it but I think form over fixtures too.

That third striker spot is for risk taking. We all have a combo of kaku, Costa, kun and ibra for the first 2. Nailing that third spot is the fun part.

      Allen vs Bony last 5

      PB touches 17 vs 26
      Shots 7 vs 10
Shots in box 7 vs 6
Shots on target 5 vs 2
      Goals 4 vs 0

Is selling Antonio a big over reaction?

Like many I am not that happy about the prosepect of losing money
on him, however when i look for an alternative (already have walcott)
the best option for next week looks to be Antonio himself

At home to Sunderland, it matters little what his official position is.He will
be operating as a winger and will have plenty of opportunities against a woeful
    Sunderland team.

Selling now just looks plain wrong.
