Suspensions

Two more players toppled off the Suspension Tightrope at the weekend after collecting their fifth cautions of the domestic campaign.

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and West Brom defensive midfielder Claudio Yacob were the guilty parties after both were booked in Saturday evening’s late clash at Anfield.

Henderson, rather conveniently, will serve out a one-match suspension when the Reds take on Spurs in Tuesday’s EFL Cup fourth round tie, meaning he is available for Gameweek 10’s trip to Palace.

Yacob, however, will miss this weekend’s visit of Man City to the Hawthorns as the Baggies have already been eliminated from the EFL Cup in earlier rounds.

Four new players will be living life on the disciplinary edge after picking up their fourth yellow cards in Gameweek 9.

Everton midfielders Idrissa Gueye and Gareth Barry are amongst the latest recruits.

The former made it three yellows in his last four starts, while veteran bad boy Barry has seen more cautions than a health and safety poster designer – his latest, at Burnley, was his 113th, extending his own Premier League record once again.

James McClean hit an unwanted hat-trick at Liverpool. His third consecutive card in the league, when added to another in the EFL Cup against Northampton, leaves him teetering.

Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen made it two cautions in a row at Bournemouth to go with the consecutive cards he was shown in September.

The 7.9%-owned centre-half will need to tread carefully – at least until Toby Alderweireld returns from a leg injury – if Tottenham want to avoid stretching their resources even thinner.

Vertonghen is one of three players currently sitting on four yellows who also have an EFL Cup fixture in midweek.

Essentially, then, he could still be banned for the Gameweek 10 visit of Leicester City if he plays and is cautioned at Anfield tomorrow night.

Diego Costa and Marouane Fellaini are the two other names.

Sitting in 35% of Fantasy Premier League squads, Costa is clearly the biggest concern.

Chelsea’s frontman continues to defy his dark side with a third straight card-free match. The Blues’ EFL Cup trip to West Ham on Wednesday would have been an ideal time to serve a ban, but Diego is clearly above such cold calculations.

If he’s booked against the Hammers, though, Costa would miss the Gameweek 10 trip to Southampton next Sunday.

Yet over 38,000 FPL managers have already drafted him in this week, with the Spain international’s price rising overnight to 10.3.

Six other players remain precariously balanced after a guilt-free Gameweek – Robert Huth, Gaston Ramirez, Marouane Fellaini, Jose Holebas and the Stoke pair of Ryan Shawcross and Marko Arnautovic.

Holebas is the second most transferred in defender ahead of Gameweek 10, having served up a goal, assist and two clean sheets in three outings.

A trio of players will be back in the fold for this weekend after serving their respective suspensions.

Defenders Aaron Cresswell and Jonny Evans have completed their one-match bans, while Burnley striker Andre Gray’s four-match punishment for unsavoury tweets from back in the day is finally over.

Sam Vokes has scored back-to-back goals in his absence, so Gray’s status as a changed man might include another novelty – sitting on the bench – after starting all five matches prior to his suspension.

Outwith Yacob, Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka is the only player who will definitely miss Gameweek 10 at this point. He sits out the Gunners’ EFL Cup tie with Reading in midweek and the upcoming trip to Sunderland.

Finally, Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko could be in for a three-match ban after he was charged with violent conduct following his touchline spat with Harry Arter. Sissoko claims he didn’t know his Arter from his elbow and the Bournemouth midfielder has accepted his claim that it was a mistake.

The FA might not be so magnanimous, however. If found guilty, Sissoko would miss this week’s EFL Cup tie at Liverpool as well as the next two crucial Gameweeks – Leicester at White Hart Lane and then the North London derby.

He has until 6pm tomorrow to respond.

Shifting to the referees, surprisingly, we were without a single penalty award all weekend. That’s the first spot-kick blank of the season.

We’re still averaging 3.44 penalties per Gamewweek after 10 fixtures which still outstrips the 2.95 of the last campaign.

The Michaels, Dean and Oliver (both 6 in 8), still lead the way in terms of penalty awards, ranking alongside Roger East (3 in 4) who was without a Premier League assignment in Gameweek 9.

The yellow card average is now sitting at 3.87 per game, just six men in black sit above that average (out of the 17 used to date), with Kevin Friend topping the list on 5.60 per game.

Robert Madley (5.33), Jonathan Moss (5.14), Neil Swarbrick (4.40), Mark Clattenburg (4.40) and Mike Dean (4.13) make up the six.

So much digital ink being spilt over whether or not to keep Aguero.

    Here's the thing.

1.If somebody asks if should they get rid of Aguero then they're not asking should they get rid of Aguero for the rest of the season...they can get him back whenever they like.
    2. Aguero is playing kak right now.
    3. This season both of Lukaku and Costa, and possibly Kane, look like giving him a run for his money
    4. Heavy midfield investment looks cushty for a few weeks.
5.Taking Aguero out for a week or three looks quite feasible for a while....
6.The maths of risking taking out Aguero are quite good as there's no substantial TV to be lost at the moment...

It all looks like a decent enough gamble really until he picks up a bit.

His fixtures are very good and likely he's still nailed. Most will captain him next week so you risk falling way behind. 2 weeks ago people were asking whether to do anything other than captain Aguero every week. They've had a minor blip imo, not time to get rid just yet

If i were set on getting rid of Kun, I would try to avoid this place. The doubts will creep in day by day until you eventually bottle it altogether.

There are merits and risks to ditching him - for me, it hinges on KDB's fitness. If KDB is more or less guaranteed to start this week, I might consider using 2 FTs to get KDB in Kun out.

        Help needed please
My 2 keeper are Foster and Pickford. Looking to bring in Grant as I have no Stoke defence.
Which keeper does he rotate better with...
        A. Foster
        B. Pickford

        Thanks 🙂

Looks like ~23% of all FPL squads are dead at the moment. A significant proportion of those will hold Aguero.

Don't even want to know. Getting beaten by a dead team makes us question the point of it all

I'm definitely not taking out Aguero. As before, everyone is looking for an excuse to take out Aguero because of his price tag, and now a few arrive in a row. Patience is a virtue in this case IMO - too many suffering from confirmation bias from yesterday's performance.

What are your thoughts on Sanchez & Antonio --> Walcott & Coutinho for a 4 point hit. Then use the extra cash to get Costa in next week?

Too sideways IMO. It's akin to shifting for the point scorers through the rearview window.

Patience my friend. It's a virtue many on here forget.

Yes, but how much patience should one give Antonio? 4 blanks in a row. Fwiw I think the trades make a lot of sense.

Sanchez is the wrong move, as is the Walcott move.

So is Antonio to Coutinho worth downgrading Sanchez for?

              Not IMO

I have 0.5 in the bank, so with the cash that I have is Antonio --> Lallana the best option as a one off?

Yeh I see your point. Is Sanchez to Walcott that much of a downgrade if one at all ...? 3 Mil cheaper and has scored more points

        Bench one:
        A. Bolasie
        B. Son
        C. Allen

        Bolasie looking good.
        Allen against Swans at home.
        Son downgrading and against Liecester.

I'm more confused to play Son.

        Any thoughts..?

        Sanchez Walcott Siggy Firmino Fletcher
        Aguero Deeney Lukaku

Anything you would change here with 1 FT?

So for anyone else still holding a WC in their back pocket, what are you waiting for? I'm always waiting for a real crash, like suspensions and injuries to multiple key players! Last season, I held until the last week of December! Not sure when to use it really, maybe if this Aguero issue continues to rumble along or something dramatic happens.

I just find the FT enough tbh, I preferred the one WC a season as well.

With the chips you need a 2nd WC.

Call me old fashioned, but not a fan of them either! I liked Fpl classic, one ft a week, pts hits, captain pick and one wild card a season. All the new stuff seems to be for keeping people's attention and providing more chances to bounce back.

        Sterling/Sanchez/Antonio/Firmino/Allen

        1FT 0 ITB

        GTG? Bench correct? Captain?

        Heaton (mun)
Baines (WHU) Smith (mid) Kos (sun) Holebas (HUL)
Sanchez (sun) Walcott (sun) Firmino (cry)
Aguero (wba) Lukaku (c) (WHU) Benteke (LIV)

Pickford(ARS), Snod (wat), Capoue (HUL), Amat (sto)

Thinking if Baines is ruled out again I'm finally getting rid of him, possibly for Pieters (SWA)

Need to get rid of Antonio and have 2 FT so might aswell!

I have 4 options in mind:

-Chadli/Redmond, good form but poor fixtures
        -Shaquiri/Arnautovic, good form and fixtures
        -Son, average form, average fixtures

Any others people are going for?

Siggy seems popular all of a sudden.
I'm thinking of a one week punt on Mata.
          Lallana seems most reasonable.
          Arnie out of your options.
