We roll out our pre-Gameweek members article next, offering insight on the armband conundrum for the upcoming round of fixtures.

First off, we cast an eye over the main contenders in this week’s Captain Poll, then analyse the Opta numbers and check up on the Rate My Team ratings before suggesting a couple of differential options in light of the analysis.

The Captain Poll

Despite a disappointing blank at home to Middlesbrough last Saturday, Alexis Sanchez tops the Captain Poll once again for Gameweek 10.

The Arsenal attacker earns 36% of the votes cast ahead of a trip to struggling Sunderland – he’s averaged eight points per away appearance, bagging double-figure hauls at Watford and Hull.

Theo Walcott’s 10% backing was earned prior to today’s revelation that he’s a minor doubt for the Black Cats clash due to a hamstring problem. If fit, though, the winger could still profit – he’s picked up points in three of four road trips.

A home encounter with West Ham sees Romelu Lukaku split the Gunners duo.

So often a frustrating Fantasy pick in seasons gone by, the Everton frontman finally seems to have stepped up in consistency since the arrival of Ronald Koeman – he’s scored or assisted in five of the last six and has collected 11% of votes.

Lukaku clearly loves facing the Hammers, too – he has scored in all eight appearances against the London club since moving to Merseyside.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic limps home in fifth spot with a mere 7% backing – a damning indictment of our lack of faith in a frontman who has scored once in seven appearances.

United’s home clash with a Burnley side that’s conceded nine goals in three away fixtures gives the veteran one more chance to justify his lofty valuation. With 38% FPL ownership, a big performance could have a significant say in the overall rankings.

Liverpool’s in-form trio Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are once again looking major differentials as they travel to a Palace defence still without a clean sheet.

With so much uncertainty over who to captain in any given Gameweek, few are willing to roll the dice, with Coutinho the most popular armband choice on just 3%.

A home clash with Hull City bring Troy Deeney (5%) into contention.

The Tigers have conceded 11 goals in their last two away matches, while the Watford skipper has netted in each of his last two at Vicarage Road, with strikes against Man United and Bournemouth.

Chelsea pair Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are also overlooked. The Belgian has scored in four successive matches for club and country, while Costa has bagged four of his seven goals on the road.

Nonetheless, a trip to Southampton looks far from straightforward – Claude Puel’s men restricted Man City to a single goal at the Etihad and have conceded more than once in just one of the last seven Gameweeks.

I am one of the unlucky ones with Snodgrass. I do not have enough money to bring in Redmond this week but I have 2 FTs but 0 ITB. I have double Arsenal in defence and Capoue as my 4th mid. Which option should I go for:

    A. Cech and Snodgrass to Heaton and Redmond; or
    B. Snodgrass to Allen this week and then Cech and Capoue to Heaton and Redmond next week.

My gut says B because I don't want to lose a double Arsenal defence against Sunderland to bring in players against Chelsea and United. Thoughts?

I look at those stats across the board for captain this week and I can't see why people are laughing at my Joe Allen punt? How is Arnie and Deeney better options? The form they're in?

Allen has the best stats of any stoke player home to a team who have conceded the most big chances of late. If he was priced at 9m he would be the stand out captain this week with lukaku.

It's fantasy snobbery. See you on the other side non believers.

    Allen (c)

I'm not really ridiculing Troy as an option. Just saying Allen captain really isn't that crazy. He's bang in form, playing number ten and has a great fixture. It's just price arrogance.

Ha. 🙂 If it helps I personally don't own and wouldn't captain Allen.

But like you I also was on these comment boards to say that captaining a player with 2 double digit hauls with a good fixture really isn't that odd.

Too many people still look at the price not the player.

I'm about to buy Allen, but I can't help but admit that he's 5.1 for good reason... Seven goals for Swansea in 145 appearances, seven goals for Liverpool in 132 appearances. People aren't being snobby over price, they're being realistic about a guy who doesn't have a history of scoring goals.

Why are you making such a big song and dance over who you're captaining? If you think Joe Allen will score the most points in your team then go for it...

I just checked out the "snobbery" as you put it, and all I see is people giving their opinions that they wouldn't captain Allen, which is fair enough as it was opinions you asked for.

      Good luck with your pick.

Bony. Not for me. Looks hopeless. Not sure about defence either, or midfield to be frank. Double arsenal just as fixtures turn, Sterling for an out of form city. Spurs mid would be better, as would Payet.

Am I mental to play Walcott with the expectation that Capoue will come in as first sub?

No. But I would want to be on the safe side.

Bit of a risk if Wally gives a 5 min cameo

My theory is that Arsenal will be 3-0 up at the point and Wenger won't sub him on at all. Does have the potential to backfire though I agree

No - Walcott will either play or not play

Amat & Capoue to Pieters & Siggy worth a 4 point hit?

Or just Capoue to Arnie for free?

    Cheers

Is this too weak in attack? Wally has got me thinking of punting on Mata with my 1FT. What would you do?

    Walker Lovren Holebas
    Mane Firmino Siggy Allen
    Aguero Lukaku Wilson

Hi guys, any ideas how to improve this lot next week? Will be 2fts, 0.5m in the bank. Did Capoue to hojlberg this week to lock in capoues value

    Boruc-Pickford
    Coleman-Lovren-Holebas-Evans-Amat
    Sanchez-Firmino-Sterling-Arnautovic-Hojlberg
    Aguero-Lukaku-Deeney

Would like hazard for sterling maybe, just initial thoughts. Thanks

Looking quite good. Would go Austin over Deeney. And Coleman not delivering points, swap for Fuchs, Morgan or Alonso. Hazard for STerling maybe, give Sterling a couple of GW's more though

If he doesn't score home to Burnley then he has really deteriorated with age. Weird to think this player scored a goal a game in a respectable league last year

2FT 0.1 ITB could downgrade Capoue, but Walcott is a doubt so may need him at home to Hull. Be a shame to waste 1FT though.

    Pickford
    Lovren Pieters Holebas
    Walcott Firmino Sanchez(c) Sterling
    Lukaku Deeney Ageuro
