Few players can compare to Sergio Aguero when it comes to punishing Fantasy Football managers.

So we should not be surprised by today’s 16-point haul – an emphatic message to the doubters who questioned his ability to deliver, amidst speculation on his pitch time and relationship with manager Pep Guardiola.

Aguero’s superb brace at the Hawthorns defied our preconceptions that this was a player low on confidence. His second, a sublime long-range curling effort, was typical of Aguero at his best, providing a chilling warning to those who now progress without him.

I’d personally been burned by a spiteful Aguero in the past – a factor which likely saved me from ejecting him prematurely.

Over the past two Gameweeks, almost 100,000 had decided on such a path – this evening they are left pondering the damage of that trade – not just as a result of today’s return, but also the points that could loom ahead of Manchester City’s obliging run of fixtures.

Middlesbrough are next at the Etihad, an opponent that recently proved stubborn at the Emirates and who earned a second successive clean sheet in today’s win over Bournemouth.

Many will now be praying for resistance from Aitor Karanka’s charges; hoping that City and Aguero are left weary by their midweek Champions League date with Barcelona, or even that Guardiola will risk stirring the pot by resting him from League action.

That seems unlikely.

The 4-0 win over West Brom saw City regain their mojo. The City boss will surely look to maintain momentum, with the League table hinting at the most competitive and open title race in memory.

Typically for a season now renowned for fickle fluctuation, in the space of seven days, things have turned on their heads: ignoring Aguero suddenly looks preposterous.

Certainly, there are no clear alternatives.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic again peppered the Old Trafford goal without reward against Burnley. Troy Deeney and Christian Benteke drew their third successive blanks, while Jermain Defoe lived off scraps and mustered a spot-kick in the defeat to Arsenal – his first goal in four outings.

Sunday will see both Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa take their turn. Aguero already has a stronger points per match ratio than the latter, he’ll also surpass Lukaku should the Everton man dare to blank.

We await Harry Kane’s return and perhaps Arsene Wenger’s intentions with Olivier Giroud but, in all honesty, by the time they have established pitch time and form, Aguero will surely have taken further strides.

For all the funds we can pour into our midfield, there is currently no tu replacement for Aguero in attack and, with the majority of armbands set to head his way in Gameweek 11, we only risk further punishment by overlooking him.

A truly frightening prospect.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I swapped Fletcher out and brought in Gungodan. Worth a shot. Maybe too punty, but of Gung can get some minutes over the next few weeks, it may pay off.

Is Sanchez a better pick long term than Walcott? I think Sanchez will score more points but not sure if he score enough points over Walcott to justify the 3 million difference

Very true. I only pointed out if for Sanchez because that's what makes him worth the price. Walcott doesn't need to be a captain option to represent value.

It just nullifies the captaincy argument for me. It comes down to points and price. I don't think there will be much in it when it comes to points

              • 14 Years

I disagree. Sanchez' assist potential makes him a slightly better captain candidate for me. Coming from someone who captained Wally GW8...

There won't be much in it when it comes down to points but that's not really relevant. It's not Sanchez vs Walcott...

Walcott is immense value and really is a given at that price.

It's Sanchez vs the other options.

The major issue with Walcott though is rotation and competition for places With oxlade chamberlain plus iwobi plus Ramsey all vying for that right midfield spot

This is so ridiculous. If Walcott is fit Wenger plays him. Ramsay is better in the double pivot anyway

Yeah but stubborn Wenger has persisted with Ramsey RW for a few years now, will be interesting to see what he does this season. Should be Walcott's spot to lose obviously but it's hard to see Ramsey sitting on the bench every week.

    RMT

    Heaton
    FUCHS PvA Lovren
    KDB Coutinho Firmino Arnautovic Redmond
    Aguero(C) Deeney

    (Pickford, Koscielny, Amat, Grabban)

Worth -4pts to get Fuchs in for Monreal?

Trying to round out my side and would love some feedback.

    Foster, Pickford
    Koscielny, Lovren, Holebas, Pietres, Amat
    Sanches, Firmino, Walcott, Allen, xxx
    Aguero, Lakaku, xxx

Have 13.9 to spend with 2 FT's on a 4th mid and 3rd striker - these are my thoughts so far:

    A) Redmond + Benteke
    B) Chadli + Defoe / Deeney
    C) Sigurdsson + Austin / Wilson / Rondon

Would really appreciate any thoughts or additional ideas! 🙂

For those still holding Ibra like myself, what's your plan?

I know getting rid seems wise now but I already have Aguero & Lukaku and can't think of any other striker I want in my team. There's mid price options but none are standing out above the others so would be guesswork.

Given Man U good short term fixtures, would it be better to hold for now, given Ibra stats, and potentially look at a straight swap for Kane when he's back in full swing?

Costa is the other option but he's close to a ban and short term fixtures not good?

    Thoughts?

    1. The Enlightener
      • 12 Years

Giroud could be a sneaky good play. He may not be guaranteed nailed on these days, but man did the team take off the moment he came on. Hard to see him riding the pine as much as he has been moving forward.

      1. Wardinator
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

Looked at giroud but already have Mustafi & Sanchez and given thief tough upcoming fixtures thought it might be too soon.

I like Austin and probs would be my no.1 contender if I didn't already have Redmond!

Costa ban imminent and poor short term fixtures so would rather wait.
Think I'll just stick with Ibra for Swansea game then assess over international break with 2FTs

Thanks for your help though 🙂

In the same boat, would like to hold. But we could see a 0.3-0.4 drop by the time internationals are over. Can't afford that anymore.

Lord almighty. Gundogan went up the same day. What was he on? Triple rise for sure then.

Nah, I actually meant just after his goals, but then realized, no one would have paid attention at the time anyway.

            Just made 0.3mil. Noice!

Ibra bleeding but perhaps out of stubbornness I'm still sticking. Team's looking good so I can afford to, but surely MU will be getting a witch doctor in this week to lift the curse that's somehow preventing these chances to hit the back of the net. 🙂

Redmond or if you have enough in the bank a (or another) Liverpool midfielder.

In hindsight I probably should've done Baines to Cameron instead of Rojo gamble then would've had money for Son>Coutinho

At least Rojo worked out for you.

I still have reservations about taking a hit for defensive players. Depending on who your other goalie is you could bring in Austin and then Heaton the week after.

Other keeper? My keeper situation is dire too but I'm not taking a hit this week myself.

            Just Deeney to Austin.

          Guys, priority this week?
          A) Jaku to Heaton/Foster (Pickford the other keeper)
          B) Snoddy to Redmond

If Snoddy is your 4th mid then surely you need Redmond so you can play him

Yeah, Snoddy is my 4th mid. Could play 4-3-3 with Walker too this week and the keeper points are annoying me. Think I'll do B this week and re-assess next week.

Ibra was a sound captain choice but when your luck is out, your luck is out.

Well done Sanchez and Aguero armbanders.
