As the hours tick down to another Gameweek deadline, it’s time to delve into the data in our next members article of the week.

We get underway by analysing the main contenders in this week’s Captain Poll, then assess the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before suggesting some differentials to help solve your armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero is the runaway winner of this week’s Captain Poll as Man City prepare to host Middlesbrough at the Etihad.

After we’d dared to question his armband credentials, the Argentine returned to form in emphatic fashion, serving up two goals and an assist at the Hawthorns last weekend.

Over 66% of voters are favouring Aguero, who has, somewhat surprisingly, scored just one goal in four home outings. ‘Boro have also stepped up their resilience and roll up on the back of successive clean sheets, including one at the Emirates in their previous road trip.

Kevin De Bruyne could be a deadly differential with just 3% backing. The Belgian has delivered FPL returns in six of nine appearances, though has managed just a goal and two assists at the Etihad.

Philippe Coutinho (5%) takes second spot after upping his consistency in recent weeks.

The Liverpool midfielder entertains Watford in fine form, producing points in four of the last six league outings, and is looking for his third double-figure haul in four at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are favoured by around 1%.

The former has been more consistent, with a goal or assist in three of the last four, yet Mane’s home displays may be worth considering – he has returned 34 points in four appearances in front of his own fans.

Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard’s recent fine form has failed to convince.

Only 2% are willing to opt for the Chilean ahead of the north London derby. A return to the flank in midweek is a concern for a player who has scored just one of his six goals at the Emirates this season, though he’s expected to lead the line at the expense of Olivier Giroud on Sunday.

Hazard has now netted in three successive Gameweeks and hosts an Everton defence with one clean sheet in six.

Subject to heavy investment this week, the Chelsea wide man been far more reliable at the Bridge – Hazard has scored in four of five top-flight appearances at the Bridge under Antonio Conte.

Chelsea’s run of four straight shut-outs means that less than 1% are prepared to gamble on Romelu Lukaku against his former club, while Diego Costa is also very much overlooked, despite serving up points in eight of the opening 10 Gameweeks.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Nice members article. Interesting to see how resilient Boro have been recently. Of course all the Aguero captainers are blind to the stats.

"Only four teams have allowed their opponents fewer attempts inside the box than ‘Boro’ 22, which is just one more than Chelsea, for example."

How does this sound for free?

    Benteke --> Austin
    Son --> Gundogan

    Current team looks like

    Foster - Pickford
    Stones - Vertonghen - Amat - Koscielny - Holebas
    Son - Snodgrass - Firmino - Allen - Sanchez
    Aguero - Benteke - Deeney

Yeah no you have not. Why would you start Amat vs Utd? The guy haven't even played a minute his last two games. He's out of the XI. Also I would HATE to have to bench Tekkers. AoA still available?

      1. Elijah's Wood
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

My thinking is that Amat will either start or not play, worst thing that happens is PVA comes on anyway. I know, i just think Burnley at home have been quite resilient, think this is the right week to bench Benteke, not too happy about it but dont have AOA left

    3. il Brutto
      • 12 Years

Allen vs WHU who have a main defender out, whereas Benteke is against a Burnley team defensively in form at home

        Currently:
        Boruc (Grant)

Up to you with how you want your team to lineup, downgrading Snodgrass will allow easier upgrades in the future but i prefer having a decent 5th mid over Christmas when rotation really kicks in. Either Snod > Gundogan/maybe even a Bournemouth mid, or get in Fletcher. Luxary transfer though

I tried to be clever and got Arnie instead. That went well. 🙁

Tough break. Made sense to do it at the time, though.

I prefer to have a cheap defence than cheap midfielders.
Sitting on KDB, Haz, Firm, Cout.

Got Shaqiri in just before Hull, got lucky and now got Allen.

I don't have Allen, I have couthino, sanchez, firmino and sterling as my main 4 midfielders. Used up all my bank balance this week by tfr put chadli for couthino. was in 2 minds about getting gundogan back in again as I would have spare cash. I only got rid of him a week before his double, typical nad timing by me as usual. Have I done the right thing, Allen was also a cheap consideration which would have left money for future flexibility.

    So, bench one:
    A) Allen
    B) Gundogan
    C) Lukaku

Its very tempting to bench Lukaku, even tho he was on fire against West Ham..

I have all 3 and have benched Allen but you could make a case for all 3

Bench Allen as first sub and good player to come in as auto sub if Gundogan kept on bench. That's what I am doing.

Keep Walcott lose 0.1 profit and hope he plays or trade for hit. Man U away next doesn't seem like a tough fixture anymore and 3 good after

I'm expecting a low score this week to be honest. Hopefully low for everyone though.

Start Coleman (CHE - mild attacking threat) or Kelly (bur - not much threat of anything)?
Want to save FT for rashford/midfield in the break.

Surely if you were ever going to play Kelly it would be this week

Cheers. I was hoping never to play Kelly, but other priorities took over.

        Heaton
        Walker Lovren Pieters
        Capoue Sterling Sanchez Firmino Walcott
        Aguero Lukaku

        (Foster; Williams Amat Diomande)

anything to be done here folks? Rolled over 2 FT this week since I already wasted one by not using one last week

You really need to sort out the defence though. Talking about the ones on the bench.

Yeah it's a mess. But with Holebas & Costa on 4 YC I'm gonna wait another week & see what the priorities are...

Seemed as good a time as any to play AOA!

You'll only be able to play the AOA once, remember.

        Any Bournemouth fans about?
Any concrete news on Stanislas? I figured that if he had a "late fitness test" last week, then he should be okay for this week...
That transfer has not worked well for me...

Don't think Howe said anything about him in his press conference. Maybe an appearance from the bench.

        Walker-> Lukaku

Currently 2nd and 15 points behind...

        Pickford
        Mustafi Walker Stones
        Firmino Coutinho Sánchez Allen Gündogan
        Aguero Austin

        Cheers!

Th AOA is tricky. Do you save it for an emergency that may never come? Or do you play it when all your attackers have decent fixtures.
All your attackers are certainly well-placed for the AOA...

        Pickford
        Walker Smith Bellerin
        Walcott Allen Sterling Mane
        Lukaku Aguero Rashford

Jaku, Zuniga, Shaqiri, Amat £1.2m ITB 0 FT

What am I doing? Rash the obvious choice to ship for a hit but tempted to give him one last chance. Zuniga (one of my stupidest purchases ever) out might also make sense so I can bench Walker (Arsenal 2-0)

Or even ship Walker with his upcoming fixtures and stock up my bank

            Looks ok.
Rashford - doesn't seem worth it for a hit unless you think Austin will go nuts. I'm also giving him one last chance, although may still end up starting Allen instead.
