The break from Premier League action has handed us the opportunity to take a look at the latest standings in our Live Hall of Fame.

This ranking system is applied to everyone who takes part in our Fantasy Premier League mini-leagues – both the free and members league. Managers’ performances over the seasons are then traced to give a Hall of Fame rating.

This first article in a two-part analysis will take a close look at the histories and strategies deployed by those leading the current live HoF rankings. This has been updated to take into account Gameweek 11 and can be viewed by Members via this link.

The second part will focus in more detail on the players they have drafted and reveal the HoF leaders’ template.

If you would like to know more about the Hall of Fame we have included a quick guide in this article. Alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark and Rate My Team’s Chris Atkinson talk you through it.

The career version, which shows the standings at the end of each season, is free to view here or via the HoF tab on the home page.

Live Hall of Fame Top 10

There is no shifting long time leader Ville Ronka from the HoF summit.

The Finnish manager is ranked 64,886 this season but his FPL history suggests he will be climbing far higher by Gameweek 38 to once again top the ratings. His lowest finish was 4,668th in 2012/13 and highest 90th in the following campaign, across a nine-season career that has included four top 1,000 finishes.

This term has seen Ville once again adopt tried and tested tactics of avoiding hits, saving transfers to enable him to take two at a time, and keep a close eye on the transfer market to hop onto successful bandwagons. A fruitful Gameweek 4 wildcard, where he moved from a season low 530,027 to 295,498 heralded a steady climb into the top 100,000. As with all our top ten, his Bench Boost and Triple Captain chips are in intact, with the latter two likely to be saved for double Gameweeks.

Currently, he has just one Liverpool player, Roberto Firmino, in a midfield that also includes Alexis Sanchez, Joe Allen, Darren Fletcher and Raheem Sterling. With just 0.7 in the bank it remains to be seen whether he will look to recruit the latest popular bandwagon Eden Hazard in time for the next Gameweek. It is possible that the potentially injured Sanchez could be ditched.

Matthew Jones (aka MJ6987), has climbed from 10th in the live HoF to second and is now 3,521th in the overall FPL rankings. A great start, in which he gained a Gameweek 1 rank of 10,062 has been key to his stellar campaign.

A Gameweek 6 wildcard helped too. This saw him avert a slide, which saw him finish the previous Gameweek with a rank of 72,681, and cement a top 10,000 rank from Gameweek 7 onwards. He looks well on course to notch a third top 1,000 finish.

As with Ville Ronka, Matthew has yet to take a hit this season, although he has made an early transfer leaving 1.2 in the bank. This indicates Sanchez has been jettisoned for Eden Hazard, to slot into a midfield that already includes both Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.

Another climber is Jay Egersdoff, who moves from 15th to third after reaching 3,298th in the overall FPL rankings. A Gameweek 6 wildcard saw him rise from 44,965th to 12,177th and stay in the top 10,000 from the following Gameweek. A five-man midfield, of Stoke’s Joe Allen, Arsenal’s Sanchez and Theo Walcott, Liverpool duo Coutinho and Firmino, supplemented by Hull’s Adama Diomande as a third striker, has also been key to his success.

With ten seasons under his belt already, seven of which ended in the top 5,000, he has the pedigree to maintain this form.

Marlen Rattiner’s FPL rank of 41,539th has seen him fall from second at the end of last season to fourth in the latest HoF standings. His Gameweek 6 wildcard proved less successful than those above him, seeing him slide from 41,135th to 61,093rd. Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson’s Gameweek 11 absence also let him down recently, although his doubling up on Firmino and Coutinho helped avert disaster. A fourth top 1,000 finish in this, his ninth season, is still well within reach.

Dipping to fifth from third is Peter Kouwenberg who has an overall FPL rank of 47,279, his second stint inside the top 100,000 in a topsy-turvy season that saw him reach a low of 267,598 in Gameweek 2. A Gameweek 4 wildcard proved less than successful seeing him rise 50,000 places initially, only to slide back outside the top 200,000 within three Gameweeks. He has taken eight hits already, including one this week. Could he be another that has moved early for Hazard?

Bruce Savage is our third highest climber, moving from 19th to sixth place in the HoF, after reaching an impressive 3,827th in the FPL rankings. He is another who used his wildcard in Gameweek 6 to good effect, climbing 200,000 places and then staying within the top 10,000 shortly afterwards. His tactic of opting for a premium frontline of Sergio Aguero, Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa is clearly paying dividends in this latest campaign which forms part of an 11-season career that includes three top 1,000 finishes.

Slipping from fifth to seventh is David Meechan, who has nine seasons under his belt including two top 1,000 finishes. A fall to 286,560th in the overall FPL rankings saw David join the Gameweek 6 wildcard club, which helped him climb more than 200,000 places. Now ranked at 26,607 he has just taken his second hit of the season, indicating that he may well be another to have jumped aboard the Hazard bandwagon before the Belgian’s double price rise this week.

Sir Edo Nygren’s sensational ascent, from 66th in the HoF rankings at the end of 2015/16 to eighth, makes him the HoF top ten’s second highest climber. With an overall rank of 565th, he looks set for an impressive finish, in an 11-season career that has seen him earn top 5,000 final ranks seven times. His midfield of Sanchez, Walcott, Sadio Mane, Joe Allen and Firmino has been made possible by opting for a 3-5-2 formation that includes Diomande in attack. As with many in the top ten, a Gameweek 6 wildcard has proved pivotal to his campaign, seeing him rise to the edge of the top 1,000. So far he is yet to take a hit.

The highest climber and best ranked HoF manager is Mark Mansfield, who leaps from 109th to ninth after securing an overall rank at the end of  Gameweek 11 of 312nd. Unusually among the top ten, a Gameweek 8 wildcard was deployed, seeing him move from 7,824th to 1,853rd.

Going into Gameweek 12 Mark has already used his two free transfers, also indicating he is another to snap up Hazard ahead of his price rises. With two top 500 finishes already in his previous ten seasons, he looks well placed to march further up the rankings and challenge for the title.

Chris Greene dips from ninth to tenth after a disastrous Gameweek 11, which saw him finish with a below average score of 50 and drop to 65,999 in the overall FPL standings. A Gameweek 4 wildcard offered a short-term boost, helping his rank move from 82,446 to 25,525 but that proved to be his season high point, with four red arrows to follow. Ditching Eden Hazard for one of his two hits this season in Gameweek 6, in a move that also saw Sergio Aguero come in, was another instrumental Gameweek. This saw him initially rise to 26,996 but then slip down the rankings.

Chris is among the late bloomers in the HoF, finishing in the top 5,000, including three top 1,000 ranks, in the last six seasons. In the previous four seasons, 69,993 was his highest season position.

Notable Mentions

Among former FPL winners, last year’s champion Dimitri Nicolaou is having a torrid season. He slips from 1,357 to 3,407 in the HoF and is currently languishing at 1,524,376 in the overall rankings. Dimitri has taken nine hits so far and wildcarded in Gameweek 6 to no avail.

Tom Fenley, 2013/14’s winner, has also fallen down the HoF, from 488th to 673rd. He is currently 394,857th in the overall FPL standings. His Gameweek 8 wildcard saw him earn three red arrows in a row.

FPL champion of 2014/15 Simon March (aka Dufflinks) is another to fall, from 61st to 128th, after finishing Gameweek 11 with a rank of 333,085. As with Tom his Gameweek 8 wildcard also worsened his season, attracting three red arrows.

Among our Moderators and Contributors Evs is top placed at 14th, up seven places on his 2015/16 Career HoF ranking. Currently at 52,906th he has remained within the top 100,000 throughout the season and wildcarded in Gameweek 6.

Mark is the FFScout team’s second highest ranked FPL manager, moving from 49th to 27th. He is ranked 43,131st in FPL and has remained within the top 100,000 since Gameweek 7.

Hey guys, could do with some help.

Wanna transfer Sanchez out for either Coutinho or Firmino - which one should I go for now they're the same price?

Also, is it worth considering KDB for a 1 wk punt against palace while Liverpool play Southampton + the fact they both Liv mids may not play a full game after internationals? Would likely get stung by price rises though.

    Full team:
    Heaton Jaku
    McAuley Williams Morgan Williams
    Holebas
    Hazard Sanchez Lallana Gundogan Barry
    Aguero Lukaku Austin

You will definitely get stung on prices. The two mids? I'm going to take a hit to make Walcott or Coutinho (have Firmino). Of the two, I'd say Firmino, maybe? They're going to be pretty even, I think.

Cheers, I was thinking Firmino as well just cos he seems less likely to be dropped after the Brazil games.

Still intrigued by KDB though, mainly as I have 1.7 ITB to absorb any price rises.

        Tough choices...

gain, I think it's pretty even. Firmino is less injury-prone, it seems.

He is indeed. If you are scared of ownership, Coutinho is the man. He is the most owned player right now, and also more consistent, and only set pieces. But I like Firmino as he basically is a striker. Thats why I have both

Don't like pogba+anichebe combo, but guess you are set on Pogba at least.

Would rather have a Soton defender than Fuchs on a WC. I know they have 2 tough matches, but after that they have great fixtures until GW25.
Would also look at a WBA defender for 4 out of 5 next games.

Depends on how much you want to spend.
McAuley carries more goal threat, Brunt is playing OOP at the moment, Evans has a small assist chance and Nyom is cheap. Dawson is on 4 Yellows, so Personally wouldn't go for him as any WBA defender is probably a 5 week option.

Normally I am not to fuzzed about irrelevant players dropping value as in 5th mid, 2nd goalkeeper etc.

But Mannone dropping tonight despite the fact he played 90 min tonight is infuriating...Why on earth didn't the remove the flag instead of just changing it to 75%.....Rant over

Very few still have their WC intact, but Christ all mighty, this seems like the window to take advantage of the TV build strategy. So many will descend on me like harpies for saying as much, but proof is in the pudding.

I am doing this at the moment.

I went Sanchez -> Hazard before first rise.
      Jaku -> Pickford
      Capoue -> Allen
      Deeney -> Austin
      I got Alonso at 5.9
      Friend rose for me
      Firmino rose
      Coutinho rose

Just need some double risers and select my WC team before hitting the activate button.

Also trying to catch some double rises on WC.

Also caught rises on new WC players: Hazard double rise, Pickford, Heaton, Coutinho, Heaton, Friend, Gibson, Alonso (which I had to re-sell). Hopefully will be able to churn out some other value during the WC, but the prices haven't been rising as fast as hoped.

Yeah I don't get why you or other people aren't just hitting the button right away? If you already made 5 changes and probably going to make a few more, you are going to play it anyway right?

I know about the thing that the transfers in doesn't count in terms of price rises, but surely that doesn't really matter? The risk of forgetting is much worse imo.

Yeah I also only got in Alonso hoping he would double rise before Austin rose, but had to sell him because I am scared Austin would rise and couldn't afford him otherwise. Now if Sachez is out I regret selling, because would like him now at 5.9 instead of 6m... Doh...

            True, but I currently have:

            Walcott, Coutinho, De Bruyne, Redmond

So would be looking at upgrading Redmond to Firmino and bringing Austin in. I'd never really considered ditching Sergio.

      I completely agree.

On WC and definitely getting 2 WBA defenders for the next 5 games and really considering tripling up as well. Can't see a lot of cheap defenders with their prospects.

Plus GW 20-27 look good as well, so if you are able to field a decent defence 17-19 while keeping one or two WBA defensive players, they could also be good options then.

    Heaton
    Alonso / Brunt / Pieters
    Firmino / Hazard / Coutinho / Sigurðsson
    Aguero / Austin / Lukaku

Pickford / De Roon / Nyom / Kingsley

    .1 ITB

Im thinking Brunt could be Stones or Cedric and Pieters could be Evans if that is the case. Will have to weigh up all options.

      Have a similar WC team.

Like Soton's fixtures long term, but I would say it could wait a few weeks to make sure Cedric is fit. They have Liverpool and Everton next to, so WBA clean sheet chances are better imo. Stones also an option, as City must start picking up CS at some point. Pieters is a good option for next 3, but after that you need to get rid, so I am thinking about maybe getting rid of him now.

This is a strategy question, but I would rather have Snodgrass/Gundo/Chadli instead of Siggy and upgrade 5th mid. A few doubts in terms of gametime after ITB and when December fixture congestions starts, rotation will probably an issue again this year. Other than that it looks good imo.

        Holebas, McAuley, Brunt, Nyom, Kingsley
        KDB, Hazard, Coutinho, Allen, Gundogan/Snodgrass
        Kun, Luk, Austin.

If Sanchez is fit I will probably do KDB -> Sanchez and Brunt or McAuley -> Evans/Friend/Pieters.

It helps if you get the captaincy right every gameweek. I found it just allowed me to keep gambling on someone coming good and eventually they did. The final let me down a little or I would have done better

          You're welcome 🙂

To be fair he only played around 2000 minutes, so 7 goals and 10 assists (FPL) is pretty good.

And I have a feeling he will only become better this year. And look at his output already, it would have been a no brainer to get him in any normal season.

Yeah, I'm looking at his fixtures and those three consecutive double-figure hauls from earlier this season.

It's between him and Hazard for a Sanchez replacement. I'm slightly put off de Bruyne as he seems more prone to injury/rotation and has CL. I may actually just wait until next week's press conferences. It will cost me 0.1 in Hazard's case or 0.2 for KDB but if Sanchez is declared fit, I may end up keeping him. I only have two defenders starting so it would be a hit to replace Alexis

            1. Licious Lizard
              • 12 Years
              9 years, 1 month ago

To be honest I think I would go with Hazard due to KDB playing cups + rotation/injury risk as you mention. Hazard is playing very high on the pitch, on form, fixtures. And a bit cheaper.

But who knows if KDB will be used as a striker again if Aguero gets rested 😉

Both good options so a very hard call.

On a WC so can pretty pick and choose from the 3 if Sanchez is fit. I have Aguero and no other Che/Ars, so Haz is a must for me. the second choice becomes much harder for me.

I would wait and take the 0.1 on the chin. A lot can still happen.

Agreed. Good time to be on WC with this uncertainty around Sanchez. His fixtures after United are hard to ignore if fit. But you just know Wenger will be cryptic in the presser and leave you guessing!

Yeah it is much less panicky than usual during ITBs.

Actually thinking about keeping Hazard and KDB no matter what and then selling KDB for Sanchez for GW13 or 14 depending on when he is fully fit. Just hate using FTs right after WC, but maybe it could be a wise move this time?

I'm bored. I've made my transfers for gw12 for a -4 hit so time is dragging. Anyone want to rate my team.

    Foster
    Alonso, Fuchs, Pieters
    Hazard (vc), Coutinho, Firmino, Allen
    Aguero, Costa, Lukaku (c)

    Jaku, Capoue, Amat, Holebas

Next week I'll need some Arsenal. If Giroud is an option it's an easy swap with one of my forwards. I could bring in Walcott for Capoue by downgrading one of my forwards. Or I could just skip Arsenal for the time being.

Would you move one of Smith/Holebas to Evans for a -4?

Already have McAuley and Amat is my unlikely backup.

      Who is your 5th def?

I think I would maybe get rid of Smith. He has done very well, but their fixtures are tough + he has gotten a suspension.

      For a hit?

Maybe if it was to get Alonso

Janssen is the biggest donk in the Premier League, just above Zaza

According to this definition I would think not.

        True

Zaza's arse is much more overly-timbered

I have 0FT, should i be patient with Sanchez and take the price drop? Or would you advise to drop him for a hit before the price drop?
