The Gameweek 22 captain poll is likely to be dominated by players from London clubs, with all three of Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs boasting the form and fixtures to endorse their assets.

At the start of the season, Spurs’ trip to Manchester City would have been marked down as a daunting prospect for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. But, on current form, Spurs on-fire trio Dele Alli (8.7), Christian Eriksen (8.7) and Harry Kane (11.1) will all be backed to return points to contest for the captaincy.

Pep Guardiola’s side were in disarray in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Everton and will surely struggle to repel a Spurs attack that have scored an impressive 14 goals over their last four outings.

Kane’s hat-trick against West Brom means he now has six goals in the last four Gameweeks and may even see him challenge for top spot in our poll.

Unsurprisingly, more than 77,000 FPL managers have swooped for the Spurs striker ahead of Gameweek 22, as the fall-out from Diego Costa’s absence at Leicester City rolls on.

Eriksen is also a strong contender on the back of a 10-point haul in Saturday’s rout of the Baggies – his sixth double-digit return in nine Gameweeks.

Alli’s away form is also difficult to overlook: he has registered six goals on the road, more than both Kane and Eriksen.

In contrast, City’s Sergio Aguero (12.8) seems unlikely to tussle at the top of this week’s poll, yet, with 11 goals this term, it could be dangerous to underestimate the 22.1% owned Argentine.

Alexis Sanchez (11.9) remains the pick of Arsenal’s assets ahead of an Emirates meeting with travel-sick Burnley.

Away from home, the Clarets have just one clean sheet and conceded 20 goals, indicating that the 36.9% owned Chilean will be granted ample opportunity to continue a run that has seen him return points in eight of the last nine Gameweeks.

Elsewhere in the Gunners’ camp, an ankle injury picked up by striker Olivier Giroud (8.7) in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Swansea City will likely temper interest in the Frenchman.

Mesut Ozil (9.5) may prove a popular alternative, however.

The German returned an assist on his comeback at the Liberty Stadium and has scored five times so far this term.

Chelsea’s obliging Gameweek 22 fixture finds them hosting a Hull City side that has shipped 24 goals on the road and earned a solitary clean sheet.

Diego Costa’s (10.4) role in Sunday’s contest remains in doubt and that is likely to see our attentions drawn to other options on Antonio Conte’s teamsheet.

On the back of just one goal and an assist in the last seven matches, Eden Hazard (10.4)’s recent performances may count against him. However, with seven of his nine goals arriving at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian remains a strong contender for returns.

Pedro (7.0) has been added to the poll on the back of two goals and an assist in four, offering a cut-price alternative to the 33.5% owned Hazard.

Pedro has returned in five of his last six home starts, providing four goals and five assists.

Liverpool and Manchester United may have battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, but both have far stronger Gameweek 22 fixtures.

The Reds face Swansea City at Anfield, with Paul Clement’s side having conceded 22 times on the road, with 18 goals shipped in their last six Gameweeks.

That should attract high interest in Liverpool’s attacking midfielders Roberto Firmino (8.4), Adam Lallana (7.7) and Philippe Coutinho (8.3). The latter is expected to earn his first start in Gameweek 22, following a long injury lay-off and two substitute appearances.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6)’s remarkable consistency should also garner plenty of votes.

The Swede travels to Stoke City having provided yet another goal in Sunday’s stalemate: he has registered attacking returns in nine of his last ten Gameweeks.

Everton’s Romelu Lukaku (9.5) also presents a convincing case. He scored a third goal in four outings against Manchester City on Sunday and travels to face a Crystal Palace outfit that continue to toil under Sam Allardyce.

The Eagles have conceded eight goals and have failed to earn a clean sheet since the former England manager took the reins.

Among the differential options, Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas (5.2) once again provides an enticing option.

Owned by just 2.9%, the midfielder’s spot-kick against Hull City confirmed his status behind first choice taker Callum Wilson, as he prepares to host a Watford side that has shipped 19 goals on their travels.

West Brom duo Matt Phillips (5.8) and Salomon Rondon (6.8) have the home form to make them intriguing alternatives for the armband.

Sunderland arrive at The Hawthorns having failed to pick up a clean sheet away from home and have also conceded more headed attempts than any other side this season.

That will surely hand Phillips the opportunity to add to his four assists already accrued on home turf.

Backers of the 8.8% owned Rondon will also be optimistic he can expose a frail Black Cats backline to find a sixth home goal of the campaign.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

I had transferred Capoune to Pedro last night with 1 more FT on hand. What's your suggestion to cover Liverpool's attack for coming week for the team below?

    Heaton
    Nyom - Alonso - Pieters
    Pedro - Sanchez - Barkley - Phillip
    Ibra - Aguero - Negredo

    Sub: Jukopovic, Eriksen, Love, Amat

Alonso has been on my hit list for so so long now but STILL not been able to get him in and he hurt me bad this GW 🙁

So this week do I do Kun+Lovren > Kane+Alonso for free?

OR do I put it off again and do Kun+Amat > Kane+Baines before Baines rises?

Going to sell Ake this GW and have the cash for any Spurs defender.

Rose - Looks the most attacking and involved but the 2 yellows away from suspension is a pain.

Walker - Attacking with high ownership and has a likes the BAPS.

Owning Rose is anything but fun. In every match there is a shot that hits the post or gets deflected and decided an own goal that he would have got an assists to if it was a direct goal. He takes shots in every match. He's so attacking with so little actual returns for it he's due an Alonso score.

Nice team but I suppose it doesn't have a big 2nd striker does it. Then again, there's no one I'd want to remove. Could you chop Lallana to a £4.2 then upgrade Diamonde to Kane? I'd be tempted to do that if so. If not, maybe just fix Pickford or something.

      Cech/Pickford
      Brunt/Holebas/McAuley/Williams/Verthongen*
      Stanislas/Phillips/Sanchez/Eriksen/Marney*
      Ibra/Kane/Wilson*

      1 FT, 1.4 itb.
the plan was to replace Marney with someone better. Now with Vert out and Wilson in doubts I think i should act quickly. My suggestions:

      a) Vert to Alonso this week and Wilson to 6.7 next week (can't see good 6.7 fwd atm). I'd go with Crouch and then i can updgrade a mid
      b) Vert to Jones and Wilson to Defoe next week (not keen of with Defoe bad fixture)
      c) Vert to Funes Mori Wilson to Defoe next week (not keen of with Defoe bad fixture)
      d) save for now and see next week.

      I'm now with d)

Very similar team to me. Not sure I'd be buying Alonso right now, he's got a good game this week yes but after that he has two toughies. Baines or Daniels perhaps? I'm looking to get Rondon in myself (currently on Carroll), but your triple West Brom is a stumbling block there.

After you've had a chuckle reading this, would really appreciate your help 🙂

Need to figure out which one of these makes more sense:
      1. Costa + Fonte -> Lukaku + Azpi/Walker
      2. Costa + Fonte -> Kane + Holebas (can't afford anyone more expensive)

Also, is there anything to be worried about with Sanchez's tantrum on being substituted this weekend?

Is it just him not liking being substituted or is there some team/contract issue I'm not aware of?

I'd go Lukaku and Walker. Kane is a slightly better option than Lukaku imo, but Walker is much better than Holebas, so that takes it.

Sanchez just doesn't like being subbed.

Fair enough. Forgot to add - I already have Alli, so there's some Spurs coverage

I guess I'll just wait for confirmation on Costa now - considering he'll only probably drop .1 further this week. Not sure if that makes sense though

      3. MTPockets
          8 years, 11 months ago

          Holebas on 9 yellows.
Would wait on Costa if held this long already.
Think Sanchez just wants to score more, but it was 4-0.

Thanks! Did not know that - definitely leaning towards A then

Yeah, I guess I will wait and see - if he does play, that's an insane differential to have now (if I HAVE to be optimistic) 🙂

Costa - note I'm biased as still have him too.

Everyone is prepared for the inevitable Alonso 1 pointer right?

10+ cleanies in 15 games doesn't point towards 1 pointer... Neither does his ppg.

Haha... If only this game was as simple as the stats say it is.
Cannot count the times I've seen a total reversal of fortune.

Do Chelsea look like conceding to the calibre of opponent they're facing this weekend? Does Alonso look extremely attacking?

Ok ok. Let's just say it's the stats vs my belief that this game has a dark tormenting heart. One I've learned through pain over many seasons.

          A) Valencia & Giroud
          B) Alonso & Lukaku (-4)
          C) 4.9 & Kane (-4)

          Heaton Pickford
          Baines *** Brunt Friend Amat
          Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Phillips Capoue
          Ibra *** Defoe

Leaning towards B, as I can't find a decent defender under 4.9 that fits... Cheers.

Choose for going forward which option is better:

          A) Lukaku & Azpi/Alonso/Luiz

          B) Kane & 5.0m Def (Have Brunt)

          Appreciate your thoughts!

I think in the long term A is better honestly. As once Chelsea's fixtures ease out after GW24. They could again go on a run of clean sheets.

Yeah I'm feeling that too.. But don't entirely trust Lukaku & Kane scares me

I honestly feel Lukaku and a Chelsea defender is the way to go but Kane is tempting me.

Precisely - I think A gives more balance to the team. But if Kane gets into the kind of post-Christmas form he has in the past years, it would be foolish to ignore him

Also, I'm assuming you have a Tot mid in your team already?

            Want to WC from this:

            Heaton, Pickford*
            Baines, Evans*, Chambers, Aké*, Amat
Sanchez, Hazard*, Alli, Lallana, De Roon
            Ibrahimovic, Costa*, Defoe

            To this:

            Heaton, JAKUPOVIC
            ALONSO, ROSE, Baines, Chambers, Amat
Sanchez, Alli, Lallana, PHILLIPS, De Roon
            Ibrahimovic, KANE, Defoe

Wanted to wait until after Chelsea's game against Hull, but only have 0.1 to spare. Pickford and Hazard are about to fall (-97.1% and -98.3%) and Jakupovic, Rose and Phillips are all about to rise (99.3%, 95.2% and 96.5%).

Do I need to press the button now?

              No.

              Evans/Ake & Costa (if out) > Rose/Alonso/Brunt & Lukaku/Kane and you're fine.

I wouldn't wc that, but decent squad if you do (except Amat).

I can do Costa -> Kane now but will only have £0.1m left, with price rises in the week I doubt I can wait for news, thoughts?

Jose Mourinho probably the best manager ever after Fergie.
