A little earlier than usual this Friday afternoon, we turn to our pre-Gameweeks members article focussing on the captaincy dilemma. First up, we analyse the main contenders in this week’s Captain Poll, then assess the Opta numbers and the current Rate My Team rankings before suggesting some differentials to help solve the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Normal service resumes in this week’s Captain Poll as Alexis Sanchez returns to the summit ahead of Arsenal’s home clash with Hull.

After blanking for only the second time in 12 Gameweeks away to Chelsea last weekend, over 35% are backing the Chilean to deliver against a spirited Tigers defence that’s kept out United and Liverpool in the last two Gameweeks.

For all his consistency, Sanchez has scored just once in his last five home appearances – a last-minute penalty against Burnley in Gameweek 22.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic gives chase on 22% as United entertain a Watford defence with a single clean sheet in 12.

The Swede has served up points in 10 of his last 13 appearances but, like Sanchez, he’s been less explosive of late and failed to hit double-figures in each of the previous six Gameweeks.

Ibrahimovic’s team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan is shaping up as a differential candidate. Selected by 1% voters and owned by less than 3% FPL managers, the Armenian bagged his highest haul of the season at Leicester last weekend.

City’s man of the moment, Gabriel Jesus, claims third spot with 10%.

Three goals and an assist in two appearances have sparked an almighty bandwagon despite the fact that Pep Guardiola’s men sit out Gameweek 26.

Up against an injury-hit Bournemouth defence that’s shipped six at Everton and conceded at least twice in seven of the last eight Gameweeks, the Brazilian’s display at the Vitality Stadium will have non-owners on edge come Monday evening.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (8%) looks to score for a fourth successive Gameweek as Swansea City welcome Leicester City to the Liberty.

The Icelandic international has served up double-figure hauls in three of the last six home outings and will fancy his chances against a defence that’s conceded three goals in three of their previous four on the road.

Everton’s four-goal hero Romelu Lukaku earns just 7% of the votes ahead of a testing trip to Middlesbrough.

There’s no doubting the big Belgian’s form but ‘Boro have been fairly resilient in front of their own fans, conceding just 14 times in 12 matches.

Diego Costa collects 3% of the votes for Chelsea’s trip to a Burnley side that has conceded just once in their last four at Turf Moor.

With just two goals on his travels all season, Eden Hazard earns just 1% backing this time around.

Elsewhere, Jermain Defoe (1%) continues to be overlooked ahead of a home clash with Southampton.

The veteran has netted six times in as many matches and is seeking a fourth double-figure haul in front of his own supporters.

Harry Kane also remains on the periphery. Selected by less than 1% voters, the Spurs striker heads to Anfield on the back of seven goals and an assist in the previous seven Gameweeks.

Agree yes but there is a case for playing to block off the best players in your ML.

What you say is spot on..but i tend to focus on rivals more than the whole picture.

The Cup Draw is going to play a huge part, I reckon. I'd rather wait until I see that but will definitely have to pay for the privilege - so may have to make an early transfer and hope for a bit of luck.

How much do we think Ibra & Sanchez will fall by next Sunday by the time we know all the Cup results?

Sanchez 11.8 - looks like he will fall tonight.

Ibra 11.6 - he might not fall tonight but should fall tomorrow.

    Appreciate your thoughts!

I got Sanchez is ages ago, so I will be keeping him through the blanks. Zlatan I would like to keep, but Jesus is a punt I just fancy taking while the value is good, and Zlatan>Jesus frees up funds for a 5th playing defender.

I think the question is Which Sanchez will turn up? Wounded, full of pride to turn things around - or sulky, despairing of team mates and thinking about that contract. I'm banking on the former as I've never seen the guy stop trying - unlike a few in his side I could mention.

Tough one as people have said this week, if you don't have Gods son that is. Arsenal do people really trust them? they are one of those sides that can explode into life or frustrate the hell out of you. Then you have UTD at home who haven't exactly been setting the world alight.. OK there is siggy but god knows, which is precisely why we should have all gone Jesus this week

Depends on the Cup draw for me. Cup Semi Finalists will only have one game in DGW34 so if I can get a decent amount of doublers in 34 then I'll save it for GW36 or so - but if I have a team full of Cup SFers I'll have a relatively weak GW34 team compared with those who are going to bench boost a squad full of DGWers - so may have to WC between 30 and 33.

        this value argument.
Can you not see a possibility where there could be merit in selling Sanchez & Ibra immediately next week for example (even for a hit) and buying back in GW29?
The way prices can get stampeded in a normal gameweek could be an indication of what might happen to their prices in coming gameweeks.
Sanchez is possibly looking at a double drop this week and he's playing Hull at home.
If there was a sensible forward option for GW28 (for non-Lukaku owners) then Ibra could be going the same way. The same with mids chances are that (if fixtures for GW28 stay same) people will be pushing the prices of Siggy & Barkley way up ( probably the 2 highest profile mids in GW28)

People are having such a tough time deciding that because it's so 50/50, really could go either way. Siggy could do serious damage this week but then Spurs have two nice looking fixtures where there could be goals.. I really wouldn't like to call it myself which is useless I know lol

I'm doing Sanchez to Snod and playing with 6M ITB in 26 and 27 (not sure if it's correct, but I'm willing to try it out). The main influence behind the decision is getting Sanchez late (11.9) and owning Mirallas (who I don't like right now, but have to keep).

I'm a bit surprised Sanchez leads the poll. Obviously he's one of the best players in the league, but Hull are defensively stubborn (I imagine they'd be only delighted to take a 0-0) and Arsenal's form is meh. I honestly thought players like Ibra and Jesus (given his recent explosion onto the scene) would have run away with it.

I imagine it's a lot to do with Sanchez simply being a Mid scoring more for goals and having the clean sheet points potential against a less than potent side.. I had it on Ibra originally that was my initial thought, so that was my gut instinct 😉

Still, given the fixture, the team form and the player's form I'm just surprised Sanchez seems to have such a significant lead.

I am with you on this one

Arsenal have struggled to score goals of late and Hull have become very stubborn in defence also you just look at Arsenals displays against Burnley and Watford

          Going with Ibra myself

Felt like I was missing some major factor in this. Of course, Sanchez himself can turn it on against anyone, but as you say their performances have hardly been impressive.

Well then we shall be captain blanking together no doubt 😉

I think a lot of us can't believe Arsenal can be this dreadful 4 times on the spin - it's being built up as a massive game to turn the season around and if they decide to show up they can blow lower teams away, with Sanchez normally the catalyst. Hull have done well but have weathered a lot v the big boys - not sure they can continue to do so...
