A day notable, in the main, for fortuitous goals and returns.

It began with Alexis Sanchez breaking the hearts of the 75,000 who had jettisoned him early ahead of the Gameweek 26 blank. Notching his first via a gloved hand, the next arrived in stoppage time – his second at the death penalty in the space of four Gameweeks.

With referee Mark Clattenburg reportedly admitting, on review at half-time, that the opening goal was handled, the Sanchez returns will be a particularly bitter pill to swallow for his non-owners.

But arguably Sanchez makes his own luck. Once again he was Arsenal’s bright spark in a performance that was otherwise laboured and lacklustre.

The Chilean could and should have scored earlier and, over his 90 minutes, recorded six efforts on goal.

In his last four Emirates matches, he’s provided a total of 31 efforts – in each of those Gameweeks he’s registered more attempts than any other player. Quite simply, he is untouchable as a source of pure goal threat.

If you don’t own Sanchez, he rarely makes for pleasant viewing.

Similarly, at least among defenders, West Brom’s Gareth McAuley is arguably peerless as a threat to opponents.

Going into the trip to the London Stadium, the centre-back had converted four of his five headers on target into goals – all had direct arrived from corners.

Today he made it five, although it could hardly have been a more fortuitous effort.

Taking up his customary position inside the box for a late Chris Brunt corner, it was adjudged that McAuley got the last touch on Jonny Evans header.

In fairness, the goal was immediately chalked up as his when it arrived via Opta. In real-time his touch seemed indiscernible and yet it was a decision later reviewed and upheld by the Premier League Match Centre.

McAuley had wheeled away to celebrate and, as the last West Brom player to get a touch, the goal was credited as his fifth of the season – again from a corner.

Like Sanchez, McAuley is an asset that, perhaps through endeavour, fortune has favoured this season.

Coming alive at set-pieces, he has delivered reliably when the Baggies defence gives way.

Just as Sanchez’ energy and raw goal threat almost inevitably brings reward by the whistle, so McAuley’s mere presence in the box on the end of deliveries from Matt Phillips or Brunt, has delivered unexpected points; no more unexpected than today’s.

Some Fantasy managers will have benefited from both these lucky charms but, given the statistics in their name to this point, clearly both Sanchez and McAuley have been buying lottery tickets all season. Today their numbers came up.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

His biggest problem is that he thinks he's too good to do the donkey work, same as with Sturridge. Klopp has had enough of that from Sturridge, Wenger needs to wake up to Ozil's situation.

Anyone else bored with the Premier League season?

Chelsea are meandering to the title due to sheer mediocrity of Spurs, City, Arsenal, Pool and United.

Every game Boro play is dreadful so there's only nine games a week that can provide any entertainment.

All the managers ever do is moan.

Maybe I'm falling out of love with the game.

While the title race is done, there are 5/6 teams (Everton right up there) who can compete for the other 3 CL spots.

At the bottom you have a relegation battle which almost certainly could go to the very last day to decide all 3 spots

Maybe not a neutral, but the only real neutrals now are those who don't support Chelsea, City, Spurs, Arsenal, United, Liverpool, Everton, Sunderland, Palace, Hull, Swansea, Leicester and Boro... (Could maybe make a case for Bournemouth too but they're a bit safer).

Now strongly of the view that, from next year, FPL should make it so that chips used in DGW only apply to the first game.

At the moment, if it feels like a loophole, and looks like a loophole, then it is a loophole. Feels dirty to just be playing the chips in the DGW.

Worth a repeat I think as the many "casuals" run off and buy the emerging best picks.

GW28 is garden path we may be getting led down. Most of the game has no idea that there may only be three games that week and by the time they realise it will be too late to do much about it.

Currently most teams will have less than six players for that GW.

For anybody nervous, or unwilling, to part with their best picks in the game..or wanting to bring in the likes of Jesus and Gabbiadini (despite their blanks) then sitting on your hands and just playing with the GW avg six picks for GW28 is definitely an option...maybe the best option in the long term.

A casual that's used all his chips (2nd WC included) has a 100 point lead over me. He did Firmino to Mane and Rondon to Defoe this week for God's sake - the guy is a proper magician. Is this winnable?

          Yep. Definitely.

Overcome much more than 100 later than this.

The chips are worth 50+ alone.

Also look at TV. Some teams in my league are actually sub 100 or close too it.

Yeah they are ticking along but Come wildcard that could ruin them. Even more if the wc is gone !!

Definitely, a WC and a Triple C in the DGW is a really good way to make significant ground.

Markovic looks an interesting pick on MotD. Against a weaker side he could be a threat.

Saw the whole game, thought he looked good, pacey and skillful, perhaps needs a better final ball at times but yeah, looked fine.

Get one of Ake or Amat out and forget about them! Playing with 14 players is bad, 13 + Carroll must be a nightmare.

But now I am hearing LIV and LEI might blank too. Why??

And, in that case, when you will say best time to bring in Mane?

It's to do with MIL v LEI in the cup, if it's a draw then the replay is midweek 26... and LEI v LIV is on the Monday lol - tough policing eh? LOL (MIL being Millwall btw hmmm)

if "'Mil v Lei needs a second leg'", does that mean Liv v Lei will surely be blanked?
or the Liv v Lei might still be played normally?

Mini league leader has a 64 point lead over me and used all his chips, however he is still constantly scoring decently which has me worried. Any thoughts on what changes to make in order to reduce the deficit.

        Heaton
        Alonso Coleman Holgate Smith
        Eriksen Alli Phillips de Roon
        Costa Lukaku

        Pickford Pieters (Sanchez Ibrahimovic)

        A. Sanchez, Pieters > Hazard, Brunt (-4)

        B. A above + Holgate > Funes Mori or Robertson (-8) - concerned neither Smith or Holgate feature...

Just a couple of questions for you guys.

        Should I keep Snodgrass?

Do I take out Phillips for Barkley or Snodgrass for Sigurdsson?

I think Niasse could be a differential, opinions?

Which one would you prefer over the next 3-5 gameweeks; Zlatan or Kane?

        Cheers

Keep Snodgrass, keep Phillips, because of their great fixtures and because of the blanks, they are both guaranteed games in gameweek 26 and 28. If you link your team, ..

Watching that MOTD highlight reel and Zlatan hitting that header at Gomes and that stupid heel kick thingy was really frustrating as a captainer, there's probably a potential hat-trick there if he could maybe finish one or two.

Hey everyone, I watched all the matches except Liverpool's.
I only know the score and that Mane scored 2. How was it actually?
I have Alli, did he do anything?
Yesterday I sold Eriksen and got Siggy.
Would you consider Mane to replace blanking Sanchez?
Any other player of the 2 teams worth mentioning?
