Written off as relegation certainties just over a month ago, Hull City’s survival bid has been given a significant shot in the arm since the arrival of new manager Marco Silva.

Two wins and a draw in five matches under the Portuguese’s stewardship, supplemented by clean sheets against the likes of Mancheser United and Liverpool, have seen many Fantasy Premier League managers assess the KCOM outfit in a new light.

Key to Hull’s appeal is, of course, that they play in both Gameweek 26 and 28 – indeed, Silva’s men are one of just eight sides currently set to feature in the latter round of matches.

As the interest starts to escalate in light of this weekend’s FA Cup results, we cast an eye over Hull’s recent matches, comparing the numbers to their previous statistics for signs of progress, while checking out the Tigers’ chief performers as we look to navigate the tricky upcoming schedule.

Peoples thoughts on Firmino? Is he a good alternative to Mane? Or is Mane essential?

I think Livepool midfield a lottery, but Mane seems the most direct player. If you can afford it I would choose him.

It wouldn't surprise me if Firmino outscores Mane.

I'm still going Mane but Firmino is a good differential

Is Mane essential? Signing Coutinho means I can afford Costa. Signing Mane leaves me scrambling for a 9.5 striker or a Hull defender. The latter is more appealing. So...

    a) Costa + Coutinho
    b) Mane + Costa + Maguire (-4)
    c) Mane + Maguire

I don't think Mane is essential at all, the whole Liverpool midfield is a complete lottery.

Could easily be Firmino's or Courtino's or even be Lallana's turn for a brace next week.

After the 28 blanks, all eyes (and transfers) turn to dgw34.

I think we need Boro to beat City in the QF's. If City win that tie, it looks like Boro are going to be one of the few teams that has a double in 34 (SUN, bou) (along with either Man UTD or Chelsea and Watford).

Boro have a nice little run between 31-33 too (swa, hul, BUR). The problem is, they don't score goals and their defence don't really look too good lately either. Plus they've got hard games in 29 (MNU), 33 (ARS) and 35 (MNC) awkwardly situated around the the double and that nice 3 run game.

A surprise Boro win in the Cup would give us a City dgw 34 (STO, WBA). Plus City would still have another double to be played in 37. So it's worth cheering Boro on when it comes to the next round of the cup, as I'd much rather be planning to transfer in Sterling and Aguero than Negredo and DeRoon after the big blank in 28.

I honestly can't think that far ahead right now, think we should get a better idea after GW28 so plenty of time to wildcard into a DGW team.

Ok so let's assume both Arsenal & Man City go through in the FA Cup and so we are left with just the 4 fixtures we already know about.

What do people think the optimal first 11 dream team for GW28 will be assuming the usual rules on formation, 3 per team and within budget ?

I think mine would be (based on my expectations that WHU, Everton & Liverpool will win and I have no idea who will win between Hull v Swansea so maybe a draw:

    Randolph ????
    Baines / Coleman / Mawson ????
    Mane / Firmino / Courtino / Siggy / Antonio
    Lukaku / Carroll

Of these I think only the Liverpool Mids, Lukaku and maybe an Everton defender or Siggy will be essential. I can easily see 7 or 8 players being enough for that week.

I guess as ever it depends which 11 - unless you are playing a w straight after.

eg I will get Siggy in as he's got fixtures and form, but I;m not convinced having a number of wba players is worth it.

Yeah. Like it's a bad idea to have 11 players scoring points. 😕

Managers will fall all over themselves for an extra player/game in a DGW but will happily go short by 2, 3 or 4 player/games in GW28. Where's the logic in that?

There will be big swings in GW28. Personally I intend to be on the right side of them if possible. 🙂

I'm not saying go 7 or 8, but I think filling 11 spaces for the sake of it is pointless if you then take hits to remove them again.

If it's players you want to get in anyway then great.

Ummm... didn't you say "if you have 11 playing in GW28 you are doing something wrong"?

            Maybe I misread.

Ok. Too much a sweeping statement I'll grant you - I did say probably!

Given the teams who are playing, I just think it's hard to engineer a strong XI that will see you through the next few weeks (unless City or Arsenal slip up). An extra 2-4 pts could be easily eclipsed by having to make extra transfers.

              My opinion only.

But if that 11 players includes taking hits to get in Swansea or Hull defenders is it really worth it ?

Chelsea are at Stoke in GW29 for example, is it worth getting rid of Chelsea players to just have to buy them back the following week ? Likewise Arsenal are at West Brom.

Who said anything about hits? Personally I have 9 already with 3 FTs left. But that's not really the point. I'm just arguing against the idea that fielding 11 = doing something wrong.

Fielding 11 is doing something wrong though, I agree with How Now here (well, agreed, as he just admitted defeat)... It would be doing something wrong as well to get a player who's not likely to be a great option going forward even if he had a DGW... Last season proves this, actually, as many would have been better off just keeping their Spurs players instead of getting Everton/Liverpool assets who just got rotated... And I know, for GW28 rotation isn't even an issue... But still, Hull, West Ham, Swansea, Bournemouth, Burnley, hardly teams that have the strongest fantasy assets... Granted, you can have a few, some defenders you can bench and so on, but 11? Something wrong there me thinks...

I don't think there is anything wrong with fielding 11 at all if you can get there with no hits.

It's getting rid of them afterwards that looks tricky again with no hits. Liverpool are away at Man City the following week whilst WBA fixtures take a big turn for the worst.

If you can get 11 with no hits and then intend to WC GW29 into a team full of DGW players then that looks a good strategy.

But I honestly cannot see 11 players I would want for GW28 anyway.

Completely depends on the players/teams in question, can't just compare any player to any player.... In GW28, there are not too many players that you'd want in DGW either, only the Everton players, that's 3, Liverpool, that's 3, and then a few others perhaps... Hardly 11 though... That's the logic matey!

"Managers will fall all over themselves for an extra player/game in a DGW but will happily go short by 2, 3 or 4 player/games in GW28. Where's the logic in that?"

I agree that there's no logic in that, however this statement doesn't suggest that it's not doing something wrong to field 11 players for GW28... It could be wrong to fall all over yourself to field an extra player for a DGW as well, as I said, depends on the players in question...

I agree with this, I honestly cannot see a team of 11 players I would feel comfortable with that week especially if you have to take hits to get them in and if you are then stuck with them for GW29.

Liverpool have got Man City away in GW29, I think I would want 2 FT that week to get rid of 2 of them.

      Lukaku, A. Carroll

i've already got 8 for that week, I think Foster and WBA defenders a good option too in general. Thinking about bringing in Robertson too, I know Maguire is most people's first choice for a Hull defender but I think the full back will do well. Otherwise Liverpool mids are a must. Personally like Firmino and then Mane.

Have you had a look at WBA fixtures from GW29 onwards, they aren't great ?

Yes, as long big teams still have something to play for that later in the season.

It's looking like only one of the top seven PL teams (United or Chelsea) will have a DGW34, so that's not looking overly appealing to me.

GW 34 may not have any. The FA could ....

Move all the 34 weekend postponements back to later that week
Move the 28 postponements to 37
and they need to find a home for the Ars Soton games and the Manchester derby.
Playing the Ars Soton game later in 26 works, leaving only the Manchester derby.

It would be desperate for people like me who need two good dgw ro compensate for some poor choices earlier in the year but it makes a lot of sense to the FA

Yep - they could do this - the GW34 games that need to be postponed will be known in GW28, so plenty of notice to move the GW34 games back a few days.

With fixtures being rearranged it's sensible not to rule anything out!

The PL dodged a huge fine last year after talks with UEFA - I doubt if those talks involved agreement for the PL to breach the rules again the very next season and get let off scott free. Teams can play Friday and Mondays easier now as well of course with FNF.

    Phillips+Rondon > Firmino+Carrol (-8) leaves me with 0.0 ?
Cant stand them anymore, will need to get rid of them after GW28 anyway.

    Mane/Hazard/Siggy/Alli
    Lukaku/Ibra

I think they can cover that in next 3 GWs plus will need to spend 2 transfers on them after GW28 anyway.

maybe just get Carroll if he's fit. -8 seems a lot and things change quickly in FPL

    Random Question on my mind.

If a player takes a penalty and the keeper saves it .... then another player follows in the rebound.

Does that player get -2 for missing the pen but 3 for the assist ?

What if the pen taker deliberately touches the ball forward for a teammate to score. Will the pen taker get a pen miss and assist?

We won't know for sure until it happens as it hinges on FPL's definition of "pen miss'' but I think it'd be unreasonable to give it as a miss as the player didn't shoot... FPL would be choosing to hold an untenable stance so I'd be very surprised to see it given as a miss.

Just seen the McAuley 'evidence' on the FPL show:

"There is some doubt Evans goal was actually on target"

Ok, in other words there's no evidence either way. IMO having seen the slow mo presented, without ACTUAL evidence to the contrary - simply, it's Evans' shot, therefore it's Evans' goal.

Otherwise we have a silly situation where any defender or keeper that gets the slightest touch should be awarded an OG...

    Absolute shocker!

Hard to get an angle on Evans header. Headed on McAuley is the only thing picked up.

Yep, ergo Evans goal. Easy, and no need to pointlessly annoy anybody, even those who don't own any of the above like myself! Common sense, rather than trying to be too clever.

McAuley got the last touch? Defenders don't aim to score own goals. Common sense would give the attacker a goal if their shot was on target.

I think Netflix will make a "Making a Murderer" style documentary about this one day. And then it will all come out, you mark (or is that Mark) my words.

The fact that Evans original effort may or may not have been on target is not a factor.

"On target" is only a factor for own goals. Where the own goal is only given to the defender if the original effort is deemed off target.

With the McAuley goal, he got the final touch on the original header therefore it's his goal. There doesn't need to be evidence of whether the orginal header is on target. It's not relevant.

That's always been the case with goal awards. These days it's addressed immediately, previously it took days for the dubious panel to judge and come to these conclusions on tough calls.

The piece on the show was to highlight that McAuley got the touch. However, by pointing out that the Evan's effort may have been off target underlines that the touch was not insignificant. Not really relevant, but a point of interest for those who wrote it off as a "skim off his hairline". It was much more than that - not that it matters - a minor touch, like Lukaku's on Bolasie's cross earlier in the season, is all that is required.

Also, the point of featuring it was to get across the point that the decision was not made by FPL. We wanted to communicate the role played by Opta and Match Centre in the awarding of the goal.
