Wednesday night’s 5-1 rout of Huddersfield Town booked Manchester City’s place in the FA Cup quarter-finals and created this season’s first double Gameweek.

With a trip to Sunderland and home tie against Stoke City falling in Gameweek 27, Pep Guardiola’s troops will inevitably dominate our transfer activity and latest Captain Poll.

Sergio Aguero (12.7) will surely be the favourite for the summit after a brace against The Terriers brought his tally to four over the last two matches.

With no competition from the injured Gabriel Jesus and high praise from his manager after last night’s display, our rotation fears surrounding the marksman have been somewhat dampened. Aguero has gained more than 39,000 new owners in just the last 24 hours, with an overnight price rise seemingly inevitable.

Aguero’s captaincy credentials are boosted further by the fragility of the Stoke and Sunderland defences.

No side has conceded more shots in the box than the Black Cats over the last four matches and only Swansea City have been breached more often at home.

After shipping four away to Spurs, the Potters’ visit to the Etihad looks another mouth-watering prospect for City’s attack.

Indeed, the Gameweek 27 profit could be spread far and wide, ensuring that Aguero has rivals for the armband within the City ranks.

Raheem Sterling (7.8) and Leroy Sane (7.5), who have been Guardiola’s preferred wing partnership over the last four league matches, both present strong CV’s for the captaincy role.

Sterling may only boast a single double-digit haul over his last 20 outings, but the wide man has been a beacon of consistency, with attacking returns in eight of the last ten Gameweeks.

Sane is also a man in form, having notched a goal and two assists in his last four league outings and claiming the opener in Wednesday’s win.
So far, 10,000+ FPL managers have drafted in Sane in the last 24 hours, with over 30,000 falling for Sterling’s charms.

As the designated penalty taker for City, Yaya Toure (7.3) has also been added to the poll as an option; a mere 1.1% of FPL managers currently own the Ivorian.

Toure was rested for last night’s encounter and it remains to be seen if Guardiola considers him for the back-to-back Gameweek 27 fixtures. The midfielder’s absence would, presumably, bolster Aguero’s appeal as he assumes duties from the spot.

We perhaps shouldn’t ignore Stoke City as a factor in the Gameweek 27 picture. A home tie with Middlesbrough should attract some attention for their assets, while Mark Hughes will feel that his side can trouble an erratic City defence that again conceded in Wednesday’s tie.

Stoke’s immediate opponents Middlesbrough have lost three of their last four away league fixtures, which makes Potters midfielders Joe Allen (5.1) and 0.9% owned Marko Arnautovic (7.1) intriguing differential options for the armband.

No Stoke player has had more shots on target than Arnautovic over their last four league encounters, while Allen’s six goals make him their top scorer this term.

Peter Crouch (4.9) and Saido Berahino (6.0) are other Potters options, but their prospects are hindered by the possibility that they will likely be vying for just one striker position.

We have also included a series of options for consideration among players with just a single match in Gameweek 27.

Certainly, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) will be the big hope for those refusing to invest in Aguero and his City team-mates.

Ibrahimovic has delivered at least a goal or an assist in eight of his last ten Gameweeks and takes on a Bournemouth side at Old Trafford that has conceded 17 goals over their last six outings, more than any other side.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini (6.7) is another striker in form.

He has fired five goals in three matches since joining the St Mary’s ranks from Napoli in January. A visit to Watford offers the Italian a platform to maintain such form: the Hornets have kept just a single clean sheet in their last six league Gameweeks.

Swansea City’s protagonist Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.6) is also included, with opponents Burnley continuing to toil on the road ahead of their visit to the Liberty Stadium. Sigurdsson’s assist against Chelsea last weekend means he has delivered attacking returns in six of his seven starts under head coach Paul Clement.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll on Friday when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Worth getting in Stone for a -8??Or not worth it??Or Better to triple up on Sterling,Sane ,Kun for a -8?? Or just do a -4?

stay away from Stones. He's the FPL versioj of the big boobed cheap hooker.
Very appealling from the side of the road when drunk but never worth the money in the end

I wouldn't get Stones in for the sake of it.. however he is cheap, so if he frees up cash for Aguero, for example, then it makes more sense.

Man City have conceded 2 goals in their last 6 domestic games and are playing 2 poor teams in a DGW. Defenders also easier to bench if needed when Man C have the tough fixtures after the blank. If you think Stones is nailed and he is replacing a dead-weight defender like an Amat or a Jones, it isn't a bad punt for a piddly 4 points IMO.

OK so reposting my thoughts here as I'd like to share opinion.

I think that what makes me lean towards Aguero TC this GameWeek is a competitive Edge approach.

The edge FPL managers who can afford Aguero this week-end without damaging their team too much will be higher than any other TC candidate later this season who will probably be massively owned by competitors (Sanchez, Costa or Ibra), especially by experienced managers who will have waited to use their WC until GW 30 and the announcement of the end of season double game weeks.

It is likely that managers who have TC captain on GW 27 could still make a defensive / blocking captain choice on a Sanchez / Ibra / costa double GW that will see them score 2/3rd points of the TC captainers of the same player whereas the potential points gap they could get from captaining Aguero this week end could not be cushioned by Kun non-owners.

I think Sterling will be rested soon. He has playede 12/13 games in a row. He played 90 minutes on Wednesday also.
Yaya and silva were rested on wednesday.
Sane has played 5 games in a row, and only had 60-70 minutes on Wednesday.

12/13 in a row bar the game where everybody was rested.
im sure he wont play more than 120 mins in next 2 games based on guardiola's rotation policy.

All depends on his stamina and cardio results. If he would be tired, he will be rested. Simple.

Sane and Sterling are two youngest assets. They are recovering quicker then likes Silva or Toure. Thats the reason.
But agree with that Sane is less likely to be rotated then Sterling.
But Sterling is less likely to be rotated then Aguero imo.

    So assuming RMT is correct....
    Week 27 before transfers = 59 points
    Week 27 after transfers = 74 points (-12) = 62 points
    Week 28 after transfers = 55 points (-4) = 51 points

So 113 over the two weeks, what do other people get?

I've seen a few threads on this, yet I am still torn on who to sell for Aguero.

    A) Kane or
    B) Lukaku (other forward is Defoe)

Pro/Con seems to be that Kane is more likely to produce over Lukaku this gw (stronger team, at home) yet Lukaku has a game in g28, and and extra transfer would needed to (call it a 4-point cost) to get Lukaku back. Any clear preference here? Thanks!

    1. Aguero in for Lukaku (reverse the transfer next GW) and leave it at that?
    8 players for GW 28.

    2. Aguero in for Kane (leaving me with 1.8m in bank~ 7.4m if i want to change Phillips too).

I might do Eriksen for Sterling for a hit - just for the DGW.

2 games for Sterling compared to 1 for Eriksen, I think Sterling will outscore him + 4

      1. GoonerByron
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Alternative though is to keep Eriksen, and then do Eriksen -> Somebody next GW for free.. So I'd have Eriksen + potentially Siggy 28 rather than Sterling twice for -4 and then no player in 28?

        1. LakhaneeFC
          • 9 Years
          9 years, 4 months ago

Well, the way I see it, you could have Sterling for -4 and then transfer him out for free to Siggy

So you get (Ster (x2) + Siggy - 4 ) as compared to (Eriksen + Siggy). That GW28 transfer to Siggy doesn't change the scale at all

If Sterling plays the second game, you've already mostly made up the -4 for losing Eriksen

      Id do Eriksen to Sterling
Eriksen faces a tough Everton defence although theyre at home and in form
But Sterling will easily outscore Eriksen this week no doubt about it...Plus both plum fixtures...both Sterling and Erik blank gw28 so that wont make a difference,,,u can get eriksen back in ge29

    Alli, Kane -> Sterling, Aguero(TC) -4

I have to do the sterling move to finance Aguero for Kane.

    What you think?

Is it sensible logic to view hits in GW 28 as -2? The assumption being that the replacement will play at least 60 minutes.

I'm getting myself in a muddle.

Yes, I'd much rather have someone like Mane, Siggy, Firminho for -4 than Sterling sitting in my starting 11 with 0.

Pretty much, but still finding it justify quite a few non-blank options (e.g. fix Amat).

        Thanks all.

Looks like I will be bringing Sane in this week and removing him for Siggy for a hit next week.

    Heaton
    Walker Coleman McAuley
    Snodgrass Mane Siggy Phillips
    Ibra Kun (c) Lukaku

Foster | 5.3 mid Holebas Love

I can get this team for -4? Looks good?

Yes, definitely. But it has its own flipside, the lack of ownership

Yep, he's just too expensive though, if you want a gamble Silva has better stats and way cheaper.

What's 12 points in the grand scheme of an Aguero 102 pointer?

      You're assuming there's definitely a penalty in the 2 games - which isn't a surety

Kun doesn't need penalties to get a big haul

Well it doesn't half help if he's on them..As seen last night he came alive after his penalty goal.

    Lukaku & Sanchez --> Aguero & Mane?

Mane for the 28 coverage and TC aguero this week.

I've got Kane & Ibra up top too.
