Arsenal make their predictable exit, in unexpectedly catastrophic style, as confidence saps from the Gunners’ legs and doubts surrounding the merits of re-investing in Alexis Sanchez builds. Here’s the notes from Tuesday’s Champions League tie…

Arsenal 1 Bayern Munich 5 (2-10 on aggregate)

Arsenal’s annual Round of 16 exit from the Champions League was an exceptionally chastening affair this time around, outplayed and prodigiously outscored by a Bayern Munich side in no mood for charity.

Theo Walcott’s goal gave the home fans faint hope of at least a tilt at second leg redemption and, in truth, the Gunners were the better side for much of the first half.

But the match, as in the first leg, hinged on Laurent Koscielny.

In Munich, the Frenchman’s injury precipitated an epic collapse. At The Emirates, the centre-half was sent off, after initially being shown only a yellow, for fouling Lewandowski when the Pole was through on goal after the break.

The striker duly converted from the spot, and another capitulation followed.

With Arsene Wenger’s hold on power looking increasingly tenuous, and star man Alexis Sanchez clearly not the happiest at the moment, there seems little to tempt Fantasy managers towards the Arsenal patch of North London at present.

Three of the side’s four most popular players are at the back – Peter Cech, Koscielny and Hector Bellerin. Conceding 10 goals to Bayern and keeping just one clean sheet in five league matches doesn’t suggest much joy ahead for those managers with interest in the Arsenal rearguard.

But the Gunners do enjoy a favourable run from Gameweek 29.

Aside from the visit of Manchester City, they will face West Brom, Palace and Middlesbrough away and entertain West Ham and Sunderland – all fixtures that have the potential for better defensive returns than Arsenal have managed in recent weeks.

But Sanchez is the big concern. Still owned by 27.4%, his place at the spearhead of the attack is suddenly in doubt.

Danny Welbeck, who was named in the starting line-up against Bayern, fell ill in the warm-up and Olivier Giroud took his place.

It remains unclear whether Welbeck or Sanchez would have operated on the left – or if the pair might have interchanged – but the Chilean ended up out wide when Giroud came into the side.

The Frenchman also started up front in the 3-1 loss at Liverpool, with Sanchez perhaps no longer nailed-on for the advanced role that has brought most of his 17 league goals this season.

Certainly, in a double Gameweek scenario, we have to think that Giroud would get an opportunity in the striker role in one of the two matches.

A Gameweek 28 blank at least gives Fantasy managers some time to consider their Arsenal options and, more importantly, their confidence and frame of mind.

The key consideration will be how we bid to exploit the two double Gameweeks still to come from Arsene Wenger’s side before the end of what has, otherwise, become another predictably uninspiring season.

Arsenal XI: Ospina, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xhaka, Ramsey (Coquelin 72), Walcott, Sanchez (Perez 73), Giroud (Ozil 72).
Subs not used: Cech, Gabriel, Gibbs.

      I think after the FA Cup Ties and European Matches are over we should know some.

      That's probably after GW29 during the International Break.

    Planning to WC in GW30. Choose one each for the next 2 gameweeks only:

    A) J.King (WHU, SWA)
    B) Snodgrass (bou, LEI)

    1) Llorente (hul, whu) {Have Siggy)
    2) Carroll (bou, LEI)

    Appreciate your thoughts!

    Would you hold Zlatan for another week? Reason I ask is that I'd want to replace him with Costa or Kane and neither play this week.

    Better off getting other players in Mid/Def for this week and leaving him on bench for 1 more week?

      You still have to pick the team that scores the most in a gameweek be it one game played or eighteen.

      If every team had a DGW it would be a fair point, but with only one DGW match he's at a major disadvantage.
      The scout gets the "pick of the litter", and he is forced into his 4th, 5th and 6th best options if he's to gain an advantage. How that in any way, shape or form can be favorable compared to simply getting a 1st option from another team is beyond me.

      I applaud you for chasing the victory in every way, although it feels a bit like diving in the penalty area: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GngPr8hDuXI

    Ready to take some hits to steady this ship. Where would you go? 1,4 ITB. Kun to Llorente would free up some money to upgrade Amat and de Roon...

    Heaton (Pick)
    Baines Brunt Evans (Alonso, AMAT)
    Mané Siggy Snoddy (Sterling, DE ROON)
    Lukaku (Kun, Kane)

      Hey duuude

      Right, Kun definitely goes to Llorente, that's for certain.

      Then you have the same choice as me lol:
      a) De Roon -> Liverpool mid (for BUR)
      b) Amat -> Coleman (for 2x Home games)

      I have gone for B actually for the longer term.... can you afford those?

          It's basically

          Good Good bad bad Great Great

          Happy to make a decision on shifting, but might keep Coleman now and actually get rid of my other Everton cover (Kaku; RFM)

            Yeah I agree on Coleman. And I will get rid of Baines for a Spurs def soon. Think I will keep Lukaku until it's time to load up on the doubles.

        Hey mate you really fancy Llorente then? Yeah I can afford both A and B question is if when I should use my WC to load up on DGW players. Coleman I can keep until GW34. Firmino/Couts not so sure as I want Eriksen/Sanchez

          Yeah me too! Exact same thinking lol, that's why I've thought well Coleman is the best option, cos Kun and Sterling go out for me for Kane and Eriksen in 29 (barring injury crisis lol)

          So meh, dk

          Just worried I'll have 5 players in that EVE WBA game, so I was thinking I'd armband Mane lol... you going Kaku or elsewhere??

            I like your thinking. Yeah armband is on Mané atm as a differential compared to Lukaku. Also I'm playing in a Liverpool ML and Mané will be heavily captained...

              Oh man I just don't know! I can see the trolling from Kaku occurring either way. I'll have RFM, Coleman and Kaku in that game, so I might well join you again 😀 let's hope it's not like our Ibra pick a couple of weeks ago !!

    Foster
    Baines - Brunt - Amat
    Mane - Sigurdsson - Antonio - Phillips
    Lukaku

    Jakupovic - Aguero - Kane - Alonso - Carrick - Lenihan

    8 guaranteed starters and 9 if Amat plays. 2 dilemmas.

    A. Play Foster or Jakupovic
    B. Buy Antonio or Lanzini

      I'm looking at Llorente for the medium term. Maybe Llorente in for Kun and upgrade de Roon to Firmino? Also depends on when you plan to WC. If you WC early in GW30 let's say, you could get some short term punts like double LIV mid

      I would sort the defence as you have 3 def for gw29 with Evans having terrible fixtures.
      Ibra Lukaku no brainer but I would cover the back.

    Good morning gents!
    Currently on:

    Heaton
    Brunt Robertson Baines
    Mane Siggy Phillips
    Lukaku
    Pickford Alonso Stones Sane DeRoon Ibra Aguero

    thinking for this week

    Ibra + Stones --> Lorente + Mawson(-4)

    and for GW29 will be able to do:
    Aguero + Phillips --> Kane + Sanchez(-4)

    How does that sound?

    Thoughts appreciated!

      Liverpool players and Siggy, and maybe a goalie - that's about it. Will probably all go on a DGW-focused WC team anyway.

      Antonio is back.

      Siggy for sure is worth holding on to, as is Mane.

      For the medium-long, I feel like Coleman is good too, he can score points anywhere imo.

      Sanchez, hoping he hasn't "lost his head" and wants out. Sure he'll remain professional, though!

      Alonso may leave when I WC as I have a bit of profit on him I might reinvest.

      Don't like any of the Liverpool defence. They'd be ideal actually to bring in, but it's not really a realistic FPL prospect I don't think.

      Just what Liverpool's needlessly high defensive line needs against speed-merchant Andre Gray - Plodder Lovren wading through treacle.

    Alonso, Coleman, Evans, Holebas, Holgate

    If I make Holgate > Fernandez -4 this week I can field 11. I know that Holgate may play but it looks like he has been dropped so it's -2 actually.
    Than WBA has heavy fixtures (ARS, MU) so Evans will probably stay on my bench and the choice would be between Holebas and Fernandez. Other idea is to get rid of Holebas. I look only at few next games as potential DGW in GW 34 will change a lot.

    Holebas (blank, Cry, SUN)
    Fernandez (Hull, Bou, MIDD)

    a) Holgate > Fernandez -4
    b) Holebas > Fernandez -4 (free up 0.4)
    c) keep Holebas & Holgate

      Firmino. Fales 9 and Cou is not 100% game fit imo. Klopp sub him early. Generally he's better bon not at this moment.

    My view is that Kaku and Kane are two most important keepers in our squads till the end of the season . Of course not a rocket science...purely based on their stats and performances.

      Kaku is a good pick right now certainly for next 2. But I'd want Costa or Ibra for the doubles over Lukaku in the longer term.

      Not sure either of the would get many save points, and what's worse is they would be playing reverse OOP.

      Not sure about Kaku, might remove him for the two dodgy away fixtures 30-1 then bring him back for the two amazing home fixtures 32-3!

      Costa maybe on a swing with him - Gabbiadini has a really loud shout as the enabler for Sanchez.

    Whatcha reckon fellas?

    A) Ignore Sanchez and go:
    GW28: Sterling -> Siggy
    GW29: Kun -> Kane

    B) Prepare for a potential Sanchez return and go:
    GW28: Sterling -> King
    GW29: (i) Mane -> Sanchez or (ii) Firmino/Kun -> Sanchez/Kane (-4)

    Jaku
    Baines, F Mori, Brunt, Robertson
    Mane, Firmino, Snoddy, Sterling*
    Lukaku, Barnes

    Grant, Stones, Eriksen, Kun

        Just be nice to have a full playing bench. Aguero>Lukaku too so effectively it's a free double transfer as neither will play. Maguire was close last week too!

    *Blewrgh*

    Still upset about last nights hammering. The future's not looking very bright for Arsenal. Changing manager wont fix anything (I do want to see a change in there, mind) as long as there's Kroenke and Gazidis making the decisions.

    Anyways, is Zlatan to Llorente for a hit good move?
