Southampton continue to be something of an enigma.

Neither an attacking force, nor an assured resilient outfit, we stand on the eve of big investment in Claude Puel’s side unsure of what to expect.

On today’s evidence in the 0-0 stalemate with Hull City, we should perhaps temper our anticipation of big returns from Manolo Gabbiadini.

Producing his third outing without a goal, the Italian was limited to two shots on goal and eventually gave way on 58 minutes. That was the second occasion that he’s been hooked by Puel before the hour-mark since his return from a groin injury.

Those three recent appearances have supplied a modest five shots on goal, with just seven touches in the oppositions penalty area and a single shot on target.

With both Shane Long, Jay Rodriguez and a recovering Charlie Austin as options for the Saints’ boss, we now have to wonder if Gabbiadini will be given the opportunity to deliver on our double Gameweek investment.

Brought into more than 165,000 squads and captained by over 83,000+ of his owners, the Italian was the most sought after Fantasy Premier League asset ahead of Gameweek 35.

Despite being restricted to a single point today, Gabbiadini is already building on his ownership – he is ranked fourth for transfers in so far ahead of his two Gameweek 36 fixtures at Liverpool and at home to Arsenal.

In truth, we have very few alternative paths in the Saints attack, with options in midfield closed off by Puel’s penchant for rotation and indifferent form.

Dusan Tadic epitomised the situation with Saturday’s second-half penalty miss.

He’s been a mainstay in the Saints’ line-up, starting in the last nine Gameweeks and yet the Serbian has produced just a single goal and four assists over that stretch.

Tadic may now surrender spot-kick duties ahead of his double Gameweek fixtures – maybe to Gabbiadini, perhaps even to left-back Ryan Bertrand.

James Ward-Prowse would be one contender to assume that role but took his turn on the bench today and is seemingly locked in rotation with Nathan Redmond and Sofianne Boufal.

Thankfully, Puel seems more settled on his selection in defence, where Maya Yoshida and Jack Stephens continue to dangle obvious value ahead of Southampton’s additional fixtures.

In truth, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United three of their four opponents, we surely cannot expect big returns on our investment.

Nonetheless, with the pair seemingly unshakable despite the availability of the experienced Martín Cáceres, they have already found a place in the top five for transfers in with an overnight price rise on the cards.

Erratic at the back, six goals in six matches up front, with a striker struggling to complete an hour and a midfield stuck in rotation, Southampton are hardly the golden ticket but, in a double Gameweek scenario, it seems we’re more than willing to overlook the shortcomings.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's no use if i bring in Yoshida who he gives me 4-6 over 4 matches.

    0 Vs pool
    1 Vs Arsenal
    2/6 Vs boro
    2 Vs Manchester united

That's why I've had Tom Carroll as 5th mid, not him.

If I'd played King every week for the last 12, I'd have been benching Siggy most weeks (which in hindsight would've been a good thing).

              Live and learn 🙂

I can endure the benching headache for the last couple of GWs

Brought him in before gw28 and actually thought he was a 3 gw punt, but has been a mainstay in my team, benched vs pool only miss. But i lost out on sanchez and phillips prime run, so guess that we all sometimes looses out on form players, especially those in 4.5 -7.0 bracket,. Assuming it's a psychological reason behind that, like, cause of his price he can't keep scoring in the lobg run kind a thing

    How about...

    It would leave me with..

    Yoshi - Stephens - Gabriel
    Hazard - Sanchez c - Alli - Eriksen - Walcott
    Gabbi - Aguero

    Pick - Rashford - Bailly - Holgate

I am beginning to think that this DGW is fools gold.

Southampton - Liv, ARS - with both teams chasing top four and Sot in their flip flops what can we expect from these games. I serverly doubt Gabbi can make an impact. Defensively this also looks very tough. I think I'm steering clear but using defenders as fillers. I may even only go Stephens.

Sanchez - his form is appalling and if he didn't have history we wouldn't be considering him. I may go Ozil instead

This...there's always standout performers in "crap" DGWs.

Defenders are normally the best punts, especially since attackers will rotate, so defences might not always face the best possible attacking team the opposition can put out.

Is Peter Cech nailed on to start the doubles in gw36 and gw37?

Or could Ospina or Martinez get a game

Liverpool should make a move for Heaton in the summer and Burnley should go for Smithies at QPR to replace him.

Heaton should be England's first choice keeper for the Euro's, he needs a move to a top 6 club.

Pickford will be in the Prem next season. If Hull sell Jaku he could move there.

i think anichebe is the only option but unlikely to get you anything as sunderland has given up

afobe could have been nice option. too bad he got injured

Yeah I'm swerving Anichebe Sunderland won't be interested now that there already down Adobe doesn't have a DGW 37 but would of had him if it wasn't for his injury I'm thinking Barnes despite a SGW cheers for ya feedback.

just put Capoue in your midfield and find more funds for your front 3
      OR
shave off .7 somewhere to make that 5.7 into 6.4 for Gabbiadini

Capoue and Albrighton are decent DGW enablers.

Am I missing something? Why is everyone using BB in 37 and NOT 36? Would give you much more options for TC in 37.
I have SWP, Yoshida, Monreal, Jaku. For 36, they all have doubles except Jaku, but I think he's a better option than Pickford anyway. Just done WC 😉

Can't WC and BB in the same week, so many don't have a choice now.

In fairness, I don't think any of the DGW's this season have been particularly special.

Top teams playing each other and teams that can't score goals have been the ones with DGW's. Add misfiring 'big' hitters into the equation too.

      1. Steager
        • 8 Years

Agreed, but the doubles in 37 give you the best option for TC. You can choose from Kane, Jesus, Hazard or Sanchez who has better fixtures than 36. Depending on form etc.

36 the only TC option is Sanchez. So I'm definitely going to BB 36 and TC 37, thanks for you input.

Don't fancy the Soton and Arsenal players for big returns in the 36 doubles.

Different fixtures means different bench games - double fixtures are easier in 37 therefore the bench is stronger from a fixtures point of view

And TC already used for myself and many others are probably in the same boat. TC best used in 37 otherwise

    6. AndyCook
        8 years, 11 months ago

I thought this but actually when you look at the fixtures I fancied the Southampton boys to get more this week than next so I bench boosted this week - currently 23 from 3 on the bench.

If they have double game weeks then why would they be the players on your bench? In any week if you take three of your potentially highest scoring players and think of them as your bench, the bench boost chip will look good. But its a false comparison because the points you gain from a bench boost will be your four worst players - the ones who would have been on your bench if you hadn't played it. Surely that's not Jaku, JWP, Yoshida and Monreal this week?

If you can get a good bench out in 36 then go for it.

For most with a WC, 37 will mostly be double players with max 1 or 2 singles. (1 for me) So mostly doubles on the bench which has a higher points ceiling.

36 will be 9+ singles so your bench will all be singles. But some good single fixtures for sure.

I agree if you can make it work there are better TC options to in 37 if you have it still. (I don't)

I see your point, I just think you can utilise BB IN GW 36, and there is no real stand out TC in GW36, whereas there are many more options for TC IN GW37. Also this way you can field a stronger 11 and not have to spread the money on players on the bench. Just makes more sense to me. Jesus and Kane TC IN GW37 look like a good shout to me.

My brother used his wildcard this week with a plan to BB36 and TC37. Scored 77 points and looking very good so far. People on here with TC left have been so set on Sanchez for weeks that many have backed themselves to a corner.

More fixtures in 37 = possibility of using bench boost to get 15 players with a DGW.
IMO this makes it the better option of the 2 weeks.
