A limping Aguero renders Jesus as essential, while clouds gather over Southampton and Gabbiadini and a consistent Spurs attack presents us with an uncomfortable decision. This and more fill our heads as we look back on Gameweek 35.

Aguero scare has us turn to Jesus…
Even with seven goals in his last nine starts and his first double-figure return since Gameweek 13, we were ready to overlook Sergio Aguero when the Wildcard came calling.

Now that the Argentinian suffered a groin injury at Middlesbrough, and Gabriel Jesus scored on his return to the Manchester City starting line-up, this path is almost confirmed.

Pep Guardiola admitted that he had intended to withdraw Jesus on the hour-mark but, with his side chasing the game at the Riverside Stadium, his plans changed. Jesus exploited the extra pitch-time by heading City’s equaliser – ironically from an Aguero assist.

Guardiola had previously stated that he could partner his two South American strikers and he followed through with that promise, opting for a 3-4-1-2 in which Jesus Navas and Gael Clichy offered width as his wing-backs.

But over the remaining fixtures, with David Silva in line for a return and Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling surely considered for recalls, Guardiola will be forced to choose between his frontline options.

Aguero’s injury may have made one decision for him.

Suffered late on in Sunday’s 2-2 draw, Guardiola must wait to see if the Argentine will return to contention this season – reports last night confirmed that the striker will undergo scans.

Even with Aguero available, Jesus will likely figure prominently over City’s remaining four fixtures – perhaps starting every match to become the obvious choice in their attack ahead of Gameweek 37.

Whether paired up with Aguero or leading the line as a lone striker, Jesus looks set to profit, with the defences of Crystal Palace, Leicester City, West Brom and Watford unlikely to slow the Brazilian’s rapid ascent.

Sane’s rest could be beautifully timed…
Guardiola dared to rest Leroy Sane to the bench at the Riverside Stadium – the first time the German winger has failed to feature since Gameweek 21.

After 12 successive starts and with fellow winger Raheem Sterling in and out of the line-up, it was perhaps just a matter of time before Sane took his time out.

Significantly, he was introduced early in the second period as City chased the game, coming on to earn the controversial penalty which offered Guardiola’s side a foothold.

His pitch-time from here on in appears to rely on Guardiola’s chosen formation, which will surely be influenced by the availability, or otherwise, of Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

Should Silva make a return, Guardiola will likely switch back to a 4-2-3-1, turning to Sane perhaps in tandem once again with Sterling on the opposite flank.

The winger’s partial rest means we can optimistically anticipate four consecutive starts for Sane to see out the season.

Found in just 6.4% of squads, he remains a healthy Wildcard option capable of inflicting significant damage over City’s remaining matches, which include those delicious back-to-back home encounters in Gameweek 37.

Gabbiadini is no longer a shoo-in…
Trudging off on 59 minutes to a chorus of boos and heckles, Manolo Gabbiadini’s contribution to Southampton’s turgid stalemate with Hull City was limited by Claude Puel’s unpopular decision to reshuffle.

But while Southampton fans aimed their frustrations at the manager, there are growing doubts surrounding Gabbiadini’s spark following his recent return from a groin injury.

In his three appearances so far, the Italian has provided a single assist, in the defeat at Chelsea, and has been hooked before the hour-mark on two occasions.

His underlying numbers have also dipped alarmingly when comparing those three recent outings with his outstanding introduction to the top flight over Gameweeks 24 to 29.

He’s received just 4.3 passes in the final third over his last three appearances, half his average in his first four starts. In addition, vital indicators such as shots, shots on target and penalty area touches have also declined – by 50% or more.

It could be that Gabbiadini has lost a degree of sharpness, or it could be that Southampton themselves are now in slumber.

Again, the statistics offer key evidence: over the last three Gameweeks, the Saints have created an average of 5.7 chances from open play, compared with 12.1 per match prior to Gameweek 33.

Combine that with talk of growing dissent in the camp, tough fixtures and questionable motivation for the season’s climax and suddenly investment in Southampton loses its lustre.

And when considering Gabbiadini specifically, we also have to factor in the risk of Shane Long, Jay Rodriguez and perhaps even Charlie Austin eating into his pitch-time.

Five fixtures still to play makes the Italian a major draw. But confidence in Gabbiadini getting opportunities to deliver has been dented.

Only fear is keeping Sanchez in the frame…
Trepidation surrounding Gabbiadini’s potential will likely influence our final decision on his selection.

But that pales in significance next to the fear that surrounds the potential omission of Alexis Sanchez from our squads.

Ordinarily, a return of a single goal from six Gameweek starts would render any asset superfluous – let alone one priced at 11.5. But graced with two extra fixtures, the perspective changes.

Despite his form and Arsenal’s malaise, Sanchez is still pulling in the purchasers and will likely go into Gameweek 36 as the leading contender for the captaincy.

While some will entertain the idea of going without him – constructing formidable line-ups without his hefty price tag – we all must surely acknowledge the risk involved in that strategy.

With many captaincy calls (triple or otherwise) set to ride on the Chilean, the potential damage he could inflict over successive double Gameweeks presents a convincing argument.

And yet we also have to accept that such a dilemma offers an opportunity for the brave to exploit.

Those trailing behind and seeking inspiration are presented with an obvious tactic at this point – omit Sanchez and strengthen across the squad in hope that he remains subdued.

It stings to shed a Spurs asset…
Rarely are we treated to a collection of attacking assets in a single side that offer the consistency currently provided by Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

Under normal circumstances, it would be a welcome scenario. But at a time when our budgets are stretched by the clamour to cover double Gameweek assets, the riches provided by Mauricio Pochettino’s attack become an unlikely problem.

Losing one of that trio in order to make way for Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez presents a painful decision. And with the aforementioned Jesus, Sane and Gabbiadini also key considerations, it seems we could be forced into deploying a four-man midfield for Gameweek 36 prior to the Bench Boost a week later.

That makes Alli and Eriksen the candidates to be shown the door, although line-ups without Kane in attack are also being discussed.

As it stands, Eriksen’s ownership continues to grow, while Alli’s threatens to stall. The extra funds liberated by the England midfielder’s sale seems to be persuading the majority to select Alli as their Spurs sacrifice.

…unless it’s Kyle Walker
Ironically, at a time when we’re freeing up a spare Spurs slot, perhaps to make way for renewed defensive investment, the previous hot property in Pochettino’s backline appears locked in a steep decline.

Previously found in 1.62 million FPL squads, Kyle Walker’s ownership has taken a dent following a run that has seen him benched in three of his last six Gameweeks.

Saturday’s north London derby provided the latest setback, with Kieran Trippier favoured at right-back against Arsenal.

The presumption that Walker was first choice and Trippier his understudy can no longer be entertained and, amid chatter on Walker’s future at the club, there are now big concerns surrounding his remaining pitch-time.

Sales have accelerated, leaving Fantasy managers looking elsewhere in the Spurs rearguard for solutions for the approaching double Gameweek. With one of Alli or Eriksen perhaps making way in midfield, we have Jan Vertonghen earmarked as our current weapon of choice in a defence that has kept 17 clean sheets to this point.

We should cherish King while we can..
We started the season lamenting the lack of explosive value options but, finally, in the shape of Josh King, we have been spoiled.

His winner at Sunderland on Saturday continued an extraordinary run of 12 goals from his last 14 Gameweeks. Accompanied by an assist and 13 bonus points, the Bournemouth midfielder has treated us to a rate of return that far exceeds his modest price tag.

It is testament to his credentials as an asset that, even when considering a cast of double Gameweek assets, King remains a key attraction – he’s placed third for transfers-in ahead of Gameweek 36.

The value he offers in an expansive and entertaining Bournemouth side simply cannot be ignored and, with three matches to go, should be nurtured.

King will doubtless be re-classifed as a forward next season, with his cost hiked well into the mid-price bracket. Hopefully, care will be taken not to kill him off completely as an option but, at the same time, we will surely never see King in this guise again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is it worth holding on to Gabbiadini despite 2 double gameweeks? He is in poor form, not guaranteed 90 mins and Saints are not scoring many goals. Then what is the alternative? Single gameweek player or 3-5-2 with Anichebe?

It doesn't get much easier for Southampton though, all the teams they are playing need to win games, just like Hull did.

There seems to be quite a few good SGW options, should we consider Hull defenders (Maguire), Swansea (defenders, Siggy) and Bournemoth (defenders, King). Instead of filling our teams with Soton players who have no form, have awefull fix and will probably be rotated should we focus on cheap players fighting for PL survival?

Always need to remember that you want players who will definitely play both games if DGW - time and time again we get lured in only for the player to only turn up for one game e.g. Timmy Fosu Mensah for me over Darmian last year. Who are the players who are certain to play... not sure on Gabbi and Gabriel etc.

Do you load up on heavy hitter defences (look at Man U GW34 just gone) and sacrifice your 8th forward i.e. have an Anichebe / Barnes. I can get Cech / Cab, Alonso / Kompany / Blind / Gabriel / Yosh.

Having WC'd last gw, I now have a front 8 of King, Sanchez, Eriksen, Alli, Hazard, Kane Jesus and Gabbi.

Im sure many on WC this week will have exactly the same or very similar but I am actually contemplating benching or even selling Gabbi due to his form, fixtures and pitch time.

Do you think he is a red herring or will Southampton go for it with nothing to play for but pride or maybe a move away from St Mary's in the off season?

Personally my team is set up for BB37 so I have to use it this week or GW38. But GW38 can be too unpredictable so I wouldn't want leave it that late.

        Option this week are:
        Sanchez (MUN & sou)
        Jesus (CRY)
        Hazard (MID)
        Kane (whu)

Should we be cautious with Chelsea assets. Alonso for example will probably be the one rested if Chelsea win the league early. Surely a spurs defender is just as good and cheaper option.

Anchiebe.. why? Just pleases me to see him in others teams as he's worthless , rotation risk and injury prone

With their poor current league form should we minimise our investment in Soton and Arsenal players with so many other players in good form with fewer matches? How many from each Arsenal and Soton should we consider in our wildcard teams?

Is Sanchez worth the investment into our wildcard teams? Should we use that investment into a 3rd expensive striker like Vardy or Costa instead

Is gabbiadini worth taking the precious 3rd striker position with players like Kane, Costa, Vardy and Jesus all vying for the 3 spots. Is gabbiadini going to play all 4 matches with Austin and long available?

Gab is a 3rd striker and less of an appealing one but still an enabler with some points potential, could end up a good differential now

If the FFS community and scoutcast team are wavering who would take his place , is little to no options in this price bracket or less who we could expect to score points or should we just stick or should we twist

Should we just go write off 3rd striker points wise and look at using the position to raise funds for rest of team , range in TV will dictate for many

          GW36: 3-4-3
          GW37: 5-5-3 😉
GW38: Assess which teams still have things to play for. Select players accordingly.

        1) Was GW 35 a better option than GW36 to get a headstart? I am probably biased by my WC success but most of the players that the FFS community is targeting had good fixtures in GW35 and delivered. King, Hazard,Yoshida and Stephens, Jesus and Sane (despite not starting), the Spurs attacking trio for example.

        2) Do those with the TC and BB chip have any other choice than to captain Sanchez and hope for the best? GW 36 BB not looking rewarding. Would using the TC in GW38 be wise or too risky?

Is Pedro a better double up option than Sane? I am assuming most will go for Hazard and Jesus. City are not blowing teams away whereas Chelsea d at Stamford bridge. Both players will miss the odd game. Pedro is cheaper and has a higher explosion potential.

Are we getting too carried away with the DGW!? So far this season it's back fired?
So my question is this. Providing you have your BB, is it more safer to not spread the money over 15 players, as some will be low budget not expecting too many returns and just get perhaps 13 tops?!

to Sanchez or not to Sanchez. For WC'ers this week, we can make one switch without hits for 37 but I just think, given form and fixtures, I would certainly expect Hazard to outscore Sanchez even over the latters DGW36 and on current form, the Spurs two as well. And isn't Wenger going to be tempted to rest, rotate and generally meddle given top 4 looks a long shot and they have an FA Cup final?

To get DGW assets are we neglecting SGW explosive options? Lukaku, Siggy, Firmino, Llorente, Zaha, Benteke, Negredo, Lanzini- many of them could easily outscore most of the DGW assets. Another thing is some of the dgw player could be turned in single game player.

      • Still Unsure
          8 years, 7 months ago

How scared are you of Lukaku at home to Watford. I've hardly seen any WC drafts that include him.

What to make of Gabbiadini? 4 games - probably not, rotation will mean 3 max I think. Is a combination of (for example), Sane and Anichebe better than Gabbi and an Albrighton/JWP?

I see a lot of people talking about Ozil. Seriously? Is that an actual option for people? You'd be better off going with KdB/Silva IMO.

Gabbi's minutes in these two doubles will probably be:
            60
            30
            80
            60

Non-WC question; which would you rather have for 36 & 37:

          Firmino + Lukaku + 8pts

          or

          Sanchez + Llorente

          ?

Sanchez would be captain in GW36, not 37.

Fosu-Mena bit me big-time last year. However we often see the big names rotated too in these DGWs so it's a complete punt in reality. Nobody knows, some people will get lucky, some people will get screwed!

Is investment in Vardy an option over the likes of Costa/Gabbi. Especially if Spurs lose this game week.

Also is Sanchez worth getting in if a non WCer and if it means dropping an in form mid like Alli/Eriksen/Hazard.

And is Chelsea double up in defence the way to go considering their fixtures? i.e. Cahill and Alonso?

It's great to ahve the wildcard but i'm finding it difficult to get a good team squad of 15 out I'm top of my cash mini league by 30+ points. I'm not willing to throw it away at this stage after being top for most of the season.

Is it time to be sensible with this and stick to the form and fixtures and not just fill gaps in your team with players who have a double but may potentially do nothing compared to a decent SGWK player.

It actually feels like im destroying my team.

Surely we can't look past chelsea-City and Arsenal for Double GWk and thats it really?

We are onto DGWs so much. But, twice already it has been the SGWers that have outscored the DGWs. Could this be the season of SGWers in DGWs. With teams playing twice in space of 3-4 days, they will be subjected to rotation.
So, players like Lukaku with a home fixture could just come handy. Thoughts?

Here is a tip for all of those like me who are going Anichebe on WC and are planning to do BB in GW37...save at least 0,2mil in the bank for case Anichebe get injured/carded/dropped. If he is out and you have no money you'll need to take a hit to have 15 playing...saving 0,2mil gives you option to get Barnes for free, and he has a decent fixture in GW37 (Bou away)

I was just thinking exactly the same thing. Really good point. It would be killer not to be able to field a full 15 on a WC just because you spent all your money and there are no alternatives. +1.

That potentially defeats the point of going with the cheapest asset 🙂

I don't want to not spend money just in case I need to swap Anichebe, I'd rather just BB 14 players and concentrate on the first XI I think

I get your point but not really - Anichebe and Barnes are SO much cheaper than any other regular that thy still represent a huge saving to spend elsewhere. I have 0.6m left over I simply cannot spend since nobody in my team is worth the upgrade.

If you can't spend it then that's cool.

But lets say I have exactly 7.6m for Sane while having Anichebe - I don't want to downgrade Sane just on the off chance Anichebe gets injured (which is a fairly high chance to be fair)

So the guys with good TV (>105) seem to have an advantage with the wildcard. Would be interesting to know the ORs of such teams too. With only 3 GWs to go, how much difference can a high TV make?

My TV was 103.9 before WC this week and OR 33999

Its all about one big sacrifice e.g Gabbi over Costa and rest of the team will even out.

I'm begining to feel that BB chip will be very ill-used by many in gw37.

It's different if u have realy big TV, but from most wc drafts here I can see that most people are "boosting" this lot: pickford, stephens, holgate and one of king/gabbi or even (god forbid!) anichebe. Not a hell of a boost, IMO.

The problem is big hitters, all of them feels important and that leaves us with weak bench. With TV of 105m I managed to tinker this lot (on wildcard):

        Willy, Pickford
        Alonso, Gabriel, Yoshida, Stephens, Holgate
        Sanchez, Hazard, Alli, Sane, King
        Kane, Jesus, Gabbi

But I started to think that I need to spread the cash, have deacent bench for a real bench boost, not just boosting a bunch of 4-pointers.

I would realy like to replace Holgate with Spurs def, Vertongen in my mind. But its additional 1.6m and someone has to go. I think ditching Sanchez, Haz or Kane is foolish. King and Jesus are too good value for money, so it leaves me with 2 opt:

Sane --> mid up to 6M
        Gabbi --> Anichebe

Both plans I dont like, as I cant see any good enough mid and Anichebe is more or less useless.

        What do u think?
Maybe my team is ok and Vertongen is not worth dropping Sane or Gabbi (despite the common sense here that defenders score good during dgw's)?

Or maybe I should consider dropping out of form Sanchez and spread that cash?

5 red arrows in past 6 weeks. Ignoring Kane and King killed me. 🙁

I agree. BB should really mean 1 great + 1 filler > 2 good with potential.

But I just can't that to work given the options. Def options are cheapo or pricey, pricey mids/fwds largely pick themselves, value mids/fwds just haven't been performing or not playing enough to risk (e.g. Walcott/Ox/Fabregas).

My wildcard team is designed for BBDGW37. So it's got a 5th mid who has a double (Albrighton) - without it, I'd bench him or King's single fixture, but given Bournemouth are at home to Burnley I wouldn't want to.

In defence I've got 4 "big" (over 5m) defenders, and Yoshida. So I'd have to bench one of Spurs, Man U, Arsenal or Chelsea for their double in 37. I think not.

As for keepers, Pickford could well get 10 or more saves over the two games - if it splits well it could be an extra 4 points or more on top of 2 to 4 appearance points. So, worth boosting.

This is very legit. I am going to try to go with Albrighton and see how well can I improve defence.

I think Gabbi could come good, I'm going without Sane. Might not even play 2 games and his stats aren't that great.
Trouble is, the mids up to 6 aren't great either. Who are you thinking? Could go for Davies instead of Vert?

Davies could be rotated, but he could be a way. Now considering downgrade Sane even more (Albrighton) and give bigger boost for defence.

This sums up what I've been feeling so far this week. The trouble is, if you want to beef up the bench you have to sacrifice one of the big hitters (Kane, Sanchez, Haz) or one of the value selections as you mentioned (Jesus, King, Sane, Gabbi). Doing the latter doesn't really solve the issue as you are just downgrading to the same players you are talking about avoiding (Anichebe, Albrighton, etc) so you really have to bite the bullet and ditch a big ticket player if you want a stronger bench. Seems there are always a few budget options that surprise during Dgws though so I'm not worried about bringing in some of the less glamorous options, so long as they play twice. This game is meant to be fun so but a 2 game lottery ticket!

On that note, I think the FFS echo chamber will cause us all to overlook some good options these coming weeks. I've only seen Vardy mentioned a couple times, Ozil hardly at all despite 2 double digit hauls in his last 5, Tadic, Costa, etc not even worth a sniff? Take a few gambles because I doubt the template team will be the same as the dream team.

For what it's worth, I'm taking a punt on Ozil so I can pump up the backline a bit.

Danger of plenty of points on the bench with this type of well distributed moneys within the team.
Can't avoid having a strong bench.
Nicely.balanced team. I really like siggy. Think he should do well.

Siggy to Haz this week for -4? Have the exact money for it now. If I wait til next week the rises will count me out.

Surely looks like.the right move even though siggy must still have a.few points out there.. Hazard should outscore him hands down

He has lost it and was angry after the defeat against spurs. He damaged a door at White Hart Lane. I would stay clear and stay with Sanchez

              That was my thinking too.
              I went Vardy => Jesus
              and Sanė -> Özil for a -4

Sergio Aguero will head for a scan amid fears the groin injury he suffered on Sunday will rule him out of the season run-in. #MCFC

              A) Who will be on the bench GW36?
              B) Yoshi and Stevens template but can they outscore Vert and Alonso?
              C) Is Gabbi wort the DGW? Limited minutes against hard opposition.
