Diego Costa and Marcos Alonso are among the goals as Chelsea move one step closer to the title with a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough to place question marks over their Gameweek 37 and 38 teamsheets.

On the Rise

Diego Costa
The second most-captained player in the Gameweek, Costa struck his 20th league goal of 2016/17 as the Blues soared seven points clear of Spurs with three fixtures remaining.

Backed by over 10% of FPL managers with the Gameweek captaincy, the Spain international is second only to Gabriel Jesus for transfers in up front since Friday’s deadline passed – more than 38,000 have already acquired his services as the league leaders prepare for a Double Gameweek 37 that hands them a trip to West Brom and a home tie with Watford.

The main concern, though, is if Chelsea win at The Hawthorns on Friday night, then the title is already over before Spurs can kick another ball in anger.

Given that they also face Arsenal in the FA Cup final on May 27 – six days after the Gameweek 38 home clash against relegated Sunderland – then a victory against the Baggies means that Conte could opt to rest and rotate his regulars over those final two home matches, potentially scuppering our plans.

However, it’s worth noting that Costa has played 90 minutes in each of Chelsea’s last 13 league matches, and bearing in mind that summer signing Michy Batshuayi has failed to start a single league match thus far, the 33% holding the former Atletico Madrid man will be confident he can retain his starting berth.

Marcos Alonso
Netting Chelsea’s second in the 3-0 stroll, the Spaniard’s stunning end to the season continues to reap reward – he’s racked up two goals, an assist and a pair of clean sheets in his last four outings.

Alonso’s 14-point tally helped him reclaim top spot in the FPL defender standings ahead of team-mate Gary Cahill, with Cesar Azpilicueta sitting in third spot after providing an assist for the wing-back’s strike.

Yet there’s no doubt that the summer signing has been the main man for FPL managers in defence – an average of 5.8 points per match is identical to team-mate Costa and bettered by just six regular players over the current campaign.

Having played 90 minutes in 13 of his last 14 league appearances, Alonso has also been immune to rotation, though the likes of Nathan Ake could offer an option to Conte if he opts to rest any regulars if/when the league is won.

Cesc Fabregas
One of our three “Differentials” for Gameweek 36, the playmaker proved a timely differential ahead of Double Gameweek 37 by serving up a 12-point tally against ‘Boro.

Owned by 2% of FPL managers, Fabregas has started five successive home matches, producing double-figures on three of those occasions.

Impressively, he’s now served up attacking returns in nine of his side’s last 10 at Stamford Bridge.

With Conte perhaps keen to protect N’Golo Kante’s thigh injury with one eye on the Wembley showpiece, the 6.9-priced Fabregas could be worthy of a flutter for those remaining three league fixtures.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Hauled off just after 70 minutes with the hosts 3-0 ahead, the Belgian failed to extend a recent run that had delivered returns in seven of eight appearances prior to last night’s victory.

While there seems little doubt that he’ll start against West Brom as Conte looks to get the title in the bag, Hazard’s pitch time continues to be managed by the Italian – he has now been subbed off in 23 of his 33 starts, more than any player in the Premier League this season.

With Pedro and Willian more than capable of delivering from the wide roles, the 34%-owned Hazard is arguably most at risk of being handed a day off than other Chelsea regulars, as Conte plots to clinch the double in his first season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For those of us with Eriksen, Alli and Kane, is it time to remove move one of those on? If so, who is the least risky player to sell and who is worthy of taking their place?

Good question and on a lot of players minds on here. Got rid of Alli today myself. I actually think it's pretty obvious that at least one needs to go but which one is a lottery. I kept Eriksen and Kane as I think they compliment one another more for goals and assists. Alli is more prone to showing frustration also and could pick up a yc or two before the end. A City mid is the obvious replacement I guess.

I got rid of Eriksen .... only reason being gut and the thought that Alli cares more about getting a result then Eriksen

On reflection there is very little difference in it, especially as I have decided that Alli is probably going to get swapped for Fimino in wk 38

Kane will be my only Spurs player for wk 38 .. .even he might go if I fancy a mad punt on Sturridge

        Cahill
        Azpiliuwhateverhisnameis
        ...and Mr. Luiz

While we're on Chelsea, is an Alonso + Cahill defensive double up a good idea for GW 37, keeping possible rotation in mind?

If any players look immune to rotation, it's these guys right?

Kevin De Bruyne- In form plays, 2 of the best fixtures of the DGWK, should (in theory) play both games

Eden Hazard- If Chelsea win on Friday will likely play only once with Conte having previously rotated when the league has been wrapped up in Italy.

      Worth a swap...?

Who would you triple captain this week?

      Hazard:
Good fixtures but will he play the juicy Watford home game if Chelsea wrap up the title away to WBA?

      Jesus:
Two great home fixtures and Pep loves him. Slight risk of rotation with the games close together and Aguero lurking…also a slim chance of Iheanacho to get some minutes?

      Disclaimer:
I’ve ruled out Kane (tough fixtures) and Sanchez (out of form & not playing up top)

KDB ... didn't think Jesus did enough v CPL to risk giving him the armband ... and burnt by previous experience of owning him only for 20 minutes, as captain

If City go crazy then KDB is the most like beneficiary

Certainly no stand out but still plenty of good options.

I'm looking at Alonso, Hazard and Jesus. Alonso could be a good should as i can see 2 clean sheets and always a chance of a goal/assist from him. Differential captains as well for those looking to gain points.

Sanchez has 6 goals and 3 assists in 8 matches versus Stoke and Sunderland- can we really drop a player of his ability over his short term form? Hazard has suffered similar spells this season, but always returned to form with a Bang.

Is it worth holding onto Lukaku for Watford? He does tend to score at home, rather than away, and therefore this maybe his last chance to seal the Golden Boot. Or swop for a DGW player ? Such as Costa, who may have a last ditch attempt for Golden Boot too.

Kompany with his injury record worth the risk?

What do you guys think about Lukaku? I think it's sensible to keep him but would you consider buying him back?
I honestly think he's capable of scoring brace/hat-trick against Prödl, Kabasele & Mariappa. Unless Gomes has an amazing day I reckon he's gonna confirm winning Golden Boot this weekend.

      1) Who will be the most motivated teams in the final Gameweeks?

      2) How frightened should we be of Lukaku in the Watford game?

      3) What do you plan to do with your Chelsea and Spurs players?

      4) Will Josh King outscore a player with 2 games?

      5) Did Jonty's algorithm work?

      6) Did the FFS Wildcard Template need more differentials?

      7) Do we need to find a way to get De Bruyne in our teams? Does Hazard to KDB make sense?

      8) Is it more acceptable to take hits this week to get double gameweek players in (especially if you're swapping out single gameweek players)?

      9) Who are the best differentials for one last rankings boost before closing time?

similar to the Q below. Spurs and Chelsea assets, is it now time to ditch? Spurs because if last season is a guide, they will fade and risk 5-1s at the hands of feeble teams such as Newcastle and for Chelsea, with a cup final coming up, they will surely rest and rotate the likes of Hazard and Costa, especially vs the likes of Watford.

I can't believe I'm saying this but with rotation a worry is it right to consider switching Hazard for Sanchez given Arsenal probably do still think they can get 4th (depending on the game vs Southampton tomorrow of course)... and bringing in Fabregas who will surely play both in the Chelsea DGW?

As we have seen in the 3 DGWs which have gone by defenders have been the source of points.

Arsenal (stk & SUN) & City (WBA & LEI) are 2 teams who have amazing fixtures and have tightened up at the back lately.

Is it worth doubling up on them or maybe taking a hit to get them in? Also who do you think are the most nailed to start all games?

Given Man Utd's complete disregard for the league, their defenders aren't really an option any more.

If looking to upgrade, what is the best way to go? Options I've considered:

      * Azpilicueta (least likely Chelsea def to be rotated?)
      * Koscielny (just seen a doubt for Saints, but if fit guaranteed to start and goal threat)
      * Vertonghen/Alderweireld (will definitely start, but how will Spurs play following the West Ham result?)

(Disclaimer: Yoshida, Stephens and Monreal already in my side)

I know I am biased ... I always believe there is scope for a transfer and a better player

Is it really sensible game-play to save a transfer when you have a double game week and twice the opportunity to gain points ... surely a hit, just -4, the next week is better than carrying over a FT?

3 blanks in a row and non-show form at the end of last season makes Lukaku a questionable asset

Watford could be thought of as a team "on the beach" but they can still grab an extra million for league places
Bet Mazzarri see things differently too ... who knows if he has a job next season - he is not going to take the last couple of matches calmly

Also , Costa waved goodbye to the fans after scoring against boro...so does that mean he is leaving and won't start the next 2 home games .
All this if chelsea win the league obviously
      Thanks

Sterling or Sane for the last 3 games if you can only pick 1?

This question is winding up my head. Sane has the ownership factor, but Sterling has the home form advantage imo. I don't know who is nailed more, and how the eventual Kun comeback can factor in in the situation, so I need some help.

Are Spurs motivation levels about to drop with Chelsea about to win the title? Last season could be an example, but I don't remember how many games Spurs had after the loss to Chelsea secured the title for Leicester (1 or 2 games till the end). I know they didn't play any football v Newcastle in 38.

Could you do something on the best defenders at different prices?

      e.g:
      Kompany or Koscielny
      Monreal or Vertoghen
      Clichy or Fuchs
Gibbs or Trippier (or SGWers like Mawson or Maguire)

Captaining the Goalkeepers.... is it time to stop ignoring the GK as captains? Last 3 GW a GK has been top scorer for that GW (assuming Forster will be top this GW)

Is it worth keeping SGWers Benteke and King?
Is Bailly likely to start 2 games ?
Are Leicester's GW37 fixtures masking some good moves (especially given GW38 farewell tour home against Bournemouth) ?

Week 37 in the Big Scoutcast House...

      Who goes, you decide...

Are we are really considering transfers due to rotation the week after wildcarding?

Yes Kane, Alli, Hazard, Alonso are all risky - but who would you bring in

I've already got 3 City, Arsenal and Southampton - so do you stick?

If twisting are Lukaku, Vardy honestly going to deliver more than Kane, Alli, Hazard?

      Cheers!

fab might not play against wba though, he tends to not start away from home. Think Conte approaches this like any other away game and of course Chelsea are fantastic and favourites to win but I wouldn't be surprised if they had a wobble, like a draw. If they do win then I have no clue. People here tell me Conte rotates immediately after securing titles (in Italy)

Let's assume Alexis scores brace and Arsenal hold CS. Gap would be 30-ish. Then you have the BB advantage that a lot of players above you won't have. You could be within 10 points before the final GW and then anything can happen.

Why is nobody considering Vardy?? It's true he has tough fixtures but his form is currently one of the best. Ppl seem to get fooled with DGW and most of the time a player in form with a SGW outscores a player with easy fixtures on a DGW.

I had Vardy captain this GW and he did better than all the most popular strikers till now (as I can't see Gabbi or Welbeck/Giroud doing any better), with two assists...was unlucky not to get bonus points too.
    Any thoughts?

I was tempted to swap him for Costa too but Costa has a lot of competition within his own team to score goals, hence it is why he basically only scores one goal or an assist max in nearly every game he plays, except for the exceptions like two weeks ago !!

Vardy was a huge consideration for me. But in the end i decided to bring in KDB over Sane and that didnt leave me with the funds to get Vardy back. But i agree, his fixtures look tough on paper but he could easily score a goal in each of his last 3 games.

That's the LOWEST possible points return he could get if he kept a CS.

I agree, and it's disappointing, but he kept one CS. How many times this season have you captained a 2 pointer? For me it's far too often. I chase the hauls rather than the steady points and it costs me.

Loads of times, as you can see I'm not shy from taking a calculated risk. My problem is that when I put my balls on the chopping block like this I expect returns when my bet actually pays off but instead I get the lowest possible points in the case of a success and my captain injured the next game.

Basically bad luck has turned success into failure here.

always comes with a risk Kos, injury prone as he is. One of the best defenders in PL and I must say you did a smart captain move, initially, and ofc it´s unlucky if he misses tomorrows match. By the sound of Wenger it didn´t seem to be more than a knock, so would not count him out entirely, just yet-)

Was streaming last night and there was quite a bit of position reclassification talk. Who do you think needs to change position in FPL next year? Here are some thoughts:

        Alonso - remains a defender
Moses - Changed from mid to defender
        Firmino - Mid to forward
        Sanchez - remain midfield
        Brunt - Defender to Midfielder

For me wing backs are defenders. Firmino should be a striker but I'm not sure about Sanchez.

I agree, wing backs are still defenders and should remain as they are. You could argue the likes of walker and rose are categorised as mids next season too.

I think if Sanchez had remained as a striker for Arsenal for the whole season he would need to be changed but as he's spent some time as a midfielder as normal he would need to stay there

Dier and Milner need to both be defenders next year.

Firmino isn't a forward...only as much a Mane or Coutinho (wouldn't reclassify them would you?)
Brunt has spent plenty of time in defence.

Agree with all of those Andy. Walker and rose remain defenders too? Dier could go either way. Gibbs nor Monreal should not change, but they could be good picks next season if either play at Wing back! King might become a striker though. Milner defender.

I don't think it really matters. It's good the way it is for most players. Picking out alonso and king for their oop is part of what's fun in the game. Higher prices make the difference

i think this season has had an even phonier title 'challenge than last seasons, both from Spurs. Chelsea are a club that are expected to win the league, thats the pressure they face every season. While Spurs have played some amazing football and wowed us with heir attacking flair when real pressure is applied, they wilt (see both European ventures). They were never expected to win the league or catch chelsea, it would have merely been a bonus, something unexpected. that isnt pressure, and I think that is why at times they thrived. the mindset of well nobody expects us to do this allows them to flourish but comes at a price. At some point a spurs fan will have to say, like a chesea fan would, second just isnt good enough, that is something will instil a real winning mentality, by changing expectations. it cant be a project forever

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 37

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 9am tomorrow (Wednesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 12noon by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

Pedro has played wing back If he hasn't played. He was ill against United and Azpilicueta played wing back for a bit in that game but then changed it back. Zouma played but I think he prefers Ake right now.

Keep Deeney for the DGW, or sell for a hit? Thanks!

I am seriously considering it. If I am behind my main rival then will go Alli and Kane to de bruyne and vardy. Vardy on fire and 2 home fixtures in last 3!

Does a world exist where someone buys Moreno and plays him as a wing back next year? This is my dream.

Is King to Ox -4 a bit bonkers or a potentially good diff? Two great dgw fixtures. If not, any other mid up to 6.5m worth a punt? King is my only non dgw player. Ta 🙂

Probably not worth it. Practically a slightly in form right back for a bang in form striker for a hit.

Currently got 0.0 In the bank. Best 2 transfers for DGW37?

        A) Blind & sanchez > Monreal & KDB

        B) Blind & Hazard > Holding/davies & KDB

        C) Save

Chambers and Zaha would be my priority outs for Yoshida and king? Or Albrighton?

          Depends on budget

He's the in form Chelsea player. Be harsh to drop him as he has been rested the most so should be really fresh too. It could happen though, tough one.

        Caballero, Pickford
        Alonso, Yoshida, Gabriel, Blind, Holgate
        Hazard, Sanchez, Sane, King, JWP
        Kane, Costa, Gabbi

2 FT and 0 in the bank. How does the below 4 point hit look?

        Kane > Jesus
        Gabriel > Monreal
        Blind > Kompany

        RP

Make a viable starting XI of the worst players you have transferred in this season! Mine is:

        Hennessey
        Lenihan Kingsley Love
        Capoue Shaqiri Allen Maloney
        Negredo Austin Anichebe

They all served a purpose at the time, apparently...
