In yet another tense final day, Ben Crabtree has been crowned the Fantasy Premier League champion for 2016/17.

Nestled in the top ten since Gameweek 28, Ben – who made just a single four-point hit in the final 11 Gameweeks –
claimed top spot for the first time in the very final round of fixtures.

Trailing Uwais Ahmed by two points heading into today’s deadline, Ben went ahead before kick-off following Uwais’ four-point transfer hit.

That saw Liverpool pair Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho swapped in for Spurs’ Dele Alli and Leroy Sane of Manchester City – trades that would eventually prove decisive in the battle at the top.

Ben – with two free transfers – made equally radical transfer moves, shifting out Eden Hazard and Victor Anichebe for Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas and Chelsea’s Diego Costa.

Starting on Ben’s bench, the Cherries midfielder was the makeweight for the gutsy signing of Costa, although, on the day, it was Stanislas who was to prove the unlikely hero.

He scored the opening goal of the day and, with Josh King in Ben’s starting XI but missing out through injury, those points from the bench helped him extend an early lead.

The Stanislas strike, together with assists from Christian Eriksen and Leroy Sane, saw Ben seize a 12-point advantage heading into half-time.

While Uwais quickly countered with early second-half goals from his signings Lallana and Coutinho, Ben edged further ahead with an assist from his own Gameweek 38 capture, Costa.

The tide looked to be turning back in Uwais’ favour when Cesc Fabregas produced one of two assists in the second period. However, Ben Davies’ strike for Spurs on 84 minutes in their 7-1 rout of Hull City was to deal the killer blow.

While Uwais edged the bonus points on the final whistle, the two awarded to Stanislas on Ben’s bench, introduced as the auto-sub for King, were to take him to a final tally of 97. That surpassed Uwais final tally by three points on the day, and by a five-point margin in the overall ranks.

A proven FPL manager of some pedigree, Ben bettered his previous best rank of 353rd back in the 2011/12 season to become the FPL’s latest champion.

Huge congratulations go to Ben from all at Fantasy Football Scout, and also to Uwais who fought a valiant battle to give us a dramatic final day.

Elsewhere, Bibek Thapa from Nepal stormed to a 99 – 68 victory over Polish manager Peter B to claim the FPL cup.

Many congratulations go to Bibek.

We will have further post-season coverage coming up in the next 24-hours, as we round up the winners of this season’s Scout Leagues and Cups.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thank for all the articles and comments here.
My first time using this web to analyze squad, although I was late using it (i started from mid season) but I can finish 230k overall (my best rank so far).
Definitely would use it again from the first week next season.
    Cheers from Indonesia !

    First season of FPL.
Only learnt about FFS in the second half of the season.
Went from mid table/bottom half in my ML to winning by 40 points.
Thank you everyone. See you next season

Hey does any site show value season stat that allows for missed games / injuries?
Kinda a combination of points per game and value season if that makes any sense.

Looking back spurs defs has burned me big time.

Last 4 gw got only 1 cs from Verte. Before that had Walker who got 0cs from 4. How i wish i just went with Ben Davies. Anyone similar ?

I went Bavies to Vert on WC in 35.
I thought Rose would be back, the extra cash and points would have been nice if I held. Hindsight eh. Then again if Rose had come back I had no decent cover so had to really.
Spurs still conceded less that anyone I think, probably letting 1 in a lot is annoying from an FPL perspective.

Would anyone agree that FPL should reset/clear the captaincy and vice-captaincy picks every GW?

That way, ghost ships won't benefit from automatically having the same captain every week.

What do you suggest they have them set as? They don't have any captaincy players so everyone just gets regular points for everyone or that it just automatically becomes your lowest scoring player.

It would be a bit annoying if you go on holiday and don't have access to sort it one week

As an active player, Id really like to think that I could beat a ghost team without fear of who their incumbent C and VC are!

      1. Alexe
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 7 months ago

Fair enough, I guess you really only have yourselves to blame if you can't beat a ghost team.

Still, I prefer the same principal to apply to active teams that haven't been 'actively managed' since the last GW.

Managers only need to spend 1 minute at the start of the week to review their squad and assign a captain and a vice-captain.

Now that the season is over, I was sitting back and reflect reflecting on the past events. So many people to thank, so many unsuccessful and successful punts, weird moves, arguing mindlessly with other people, occasionally behaving like a toddler, gaining a rank which would have been impossible without the wonderful people in this site and sharing the joy with some of the new parents. So many memories. Thank you for everything ffscout. And special thanks to some people. You know who you are.

How does fpl deal with position changes?

Are wingback (Alonso/Moses) defenders or midfielders?

Will King or Sanchez be mids or fwds.

    Will be interesting

Sanchez, if he stays, will be a MID.

I can see King being a FWD next year.

Wingbacks are usually defenders. What'll be interesting to see with Alonso and Moses is whether they are classed as midfielders because they were part of the 4 in a 3-4-3.

King should be a forward next year and Sánchez may depend on whether he played more as a forward than a midfielder on count back.

I think that the formation that should count is the one the team uses when they defend. Therefore I would still count most of the wingbacks as defenders.

Final Rank: 10,597. Just short of 10k due to completely unnecessary -4 which I regretted immediately... D'oh!

Having said that, it's my first season and I'm looking forward to having a solid target to beat next year. Thank you all!

From the frying pan into the fire.

FIFA17 FUT you've got my undivided attention now. Pretty sure this is an EA ploy - getting the football obsessed to win cash mini leagues and funnel said cash into buying packs on FUT by releasing Team of the Season cards.

I don't post mutch on here but would like to thank the community and administrators for making this awesome sight. FPL would not be half as fun without.

This was my third season playing this game. I usally managed to get the heavy hitters right but found it rather frustrating since many squad players and differentials (Cedric, Stanislas, Chadli, Phillips, Gabbiadini, Baines and Aké - for some) kept failing me. Was unablee to make up any ground since GW8 basically.

Got my highest finish ever of 14k this year, top 20 in Japan and won my ML after being 100 behind only a few weeks ago!

I don't post on here very often because I feel I don't know enough compared to others. I always read it though so thanks to everyone who gives advice, have a good summer!
