In yet another tense final day, Ben Crabtree has been crowned the Fantasy Premier League champion for 2016/17.

Nestled in the top ten since Gameweek 28, Ben – who made just a single four-point hit in the final 11 Gameweeks –
claimed top spot for the first time in the very final round of fixtures.

Trailing Uwais Ahmed by two points heading into today’s deadline, Ben went ahead before kick-off following Uwais’ four-point transfer hit.

That saw Liverpool pair Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho swapped in for Spurs’ Dele Alli and Leroy Sane of Manchester City – trades that would eventually prove decisive in the battle at the top.

Ben – with two free transfers – made equally radical transfer moves, shifting out Eden Hazard and Victor Anichebe for Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas and Chelsea’s Diego Costa.

Starting on Ben’s bench, the Cherries midfielder was the makeweight for the gutsy signing of Costa, although, on the day, it was Stanislas who was to prove the unlikely hero.

He scored the opening goal of the day and, with Josh King in Ben’s starting XI but missing out through injury, those points from the bench helped him extend an early lead.

The Stanislas strike, together with assists from Christian Eriksen and Leroy Sane, saw Ben seize a 12-point advantage heading into half-time.

While Uwais quickly countered with early second-half goals from his signings Lallana and Coutinho, Ben edged further ahead with an assist from his own Gameweek 38 capture, Costa.

The tide looked to be turning back in Uwais’ favour when Cesc Fabregas produced one of two assists in the second period. However, Ben Davies’ strike for Spurs on 84 minutes in their 7-1 rout of Hull City was to deal the killer blow.

While Uwais edged the bonus points on the final whistle, the two awarded to Stanislas on Ben’s bench, introduced as the auto-sub for King, were to take him to a final tally of 97. That surpassed Uwais final tally by three points on the day, and by a five-point margin in the overall ranks.

A proven FPL manager of some pedigree, Ben bettered his previous best rank of 353rd back in the 2011/12 season to become the FPL’s latest champion.

Huge congratulations go to Ben from all at Fantasy Football Scout, and also to Uwais who fought a valiant battle to give us a dramatic final day.

Elsewhere, Bibek Thapa from Nepal stormed to a 99 – 68 victory over Polish manager Peter B to claim the FPL cup.

Many congratulations go to Bibek.

We will have further post-season coverage coming up in the next 24-hours, as we round up the winners of this season’s Scout Leagues and Cups.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My first year playing seriously, where I was active throughout the season.

My first year on this site as well 🙂

87k OR and closed up a 150+ point gap to win my ML!

Thanks a lot to everyone who helped me out here - and there was a LOT of help provided! And hope to see you again next season!

    Cheers. 🙂

My transfer this week cost me a 50k finish by 1 point.
    Alli > Coutinho

Happy with the rank considering I have been languishing 500k + most the season and 130k 3 weeks ago.
Far too many hits but it's been fun. Over 150 points spent. 73 transfers.

Serious question. I presume the mods and Scoutcasters (other than Mark S) have jobs that are not FFS related? i.e. they do this stuff in their spare time?

Just a sincere word of thanks to the community for all your advice and insights over the season. It has been emotional.

Managed my third consecutive Top 10k (7124) after seemingly being stuck at 45-75k range for much of the season. A strategic early wildcard in gw32 made all the difference, combined with the odd hit - including a "roll the dice" gamble (-12) in gw37 in an attempt to make up a 20 point deficit.

Broke into the Top 10k for the first time this season on Thursday, and ultimately finished 16 points inside the Top 10k.

And somehow I managed to not own Josh King all season.....

Bit confused how your ranking can vary so much for fairly similar points E.g

    Season Points Rank
    2010/11 1,848 455,207
    2011/12 1,810 774,781
    2012/13 2,105 61,571
    2013/14 2,244 180,000
    2014/15 2,263 2,239
    2015/16 2,177 65,719
    2016/17 2,351 3,498

So more points in '17 than in '15 but lower rank. Surely the number of overall players doesn't affect that?

And comparing '14 and '13 significantly more points in latter but significantly worse rank?!

Some seasons have high scoring players at virtually nothing prices - Kane's first season, Ramsey's beast mode one, Michu, etc - this let's you spend a lot more on the rest of your team and as such overall scores will be higher.

Next season will be tougher for one reason - all the top 7 teams will be playing European football. No Chelsea or Liverpool to save us. The rest of the PL is pretty dross as shown by 6 points separating 8th place from 17th place.

Thoroughly miserable come to think of it now. When do we go live again, July?

We track player movement over the summer while we follow the players' summer practice as good as we can to get an edge on the casuals next season.
      Thought it was obvious.

Start putting the date of pre-season friendlies on the calendar. It's going to a big season for Bojan.

To the FFS team, a huge thank you for being the best football website on the web. First real season playing, ranked 29,040 overall with 2252 points, and still learning. Made some dumb mistakes this season. Played 3C in GW 27 where Kun flopped, did not have Sanchez for the last few crucial weeks, took too few hits 48 points. Lessons learned for next season.

That TC on Aguero was a good shout though, I played mine on Sanchez but feel like I got lucky that he outscored Aguero there

Not my most favourite of seasons, but thanks to the FFS community for the help during it!

Time the usual - "I might have a season off" turning to "is it August yet!"

In some ways I feel I've played the game well this year with very good captain picks yet didn't do brilliantly (happy to get to 9.7k at the finish). Anyone in the top 1k deserves serious kudos.

Final rank of 6931, happy days! Thanks for all the help this year guys, I was over 100 points behind in my cash ML and because of Kane's hauls, I won the league by 17 points in the end so now £300 richer 🙂 have a good summer everyone!

Did anyone else notice Crabtree's Tag Heuer watch is worth about £1k. Wonder if he's going to sell it. Or even more outrageous - wear it
