On the back of his best ever Fantasy Premier League (FPL) campaign in 2015/16, when he registered 178 points, Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen raised the bar again to earn his place in our Team of the Season.

The Spurs midfielder produced eight goals and 20 assists in FPL to total 218 points – the fourth consecutive season he has improved his overall points tally.

The Dane joins team-mate Dele Alli in our line-up’s midfield, with the pair enjoying fantastic campaigns as Mauricio Pochettino’s side recorded their highest ever Premier League finish of second.

The Statistics

Priced at 8.5 at the start of the campaign, Eriksen was initially drafted in by 401,033 FPL managers ahead of Gameweek 1.

But the midfielder got off to a sluggish start, registering three successive blanks, while an 11-point haul in the 4-0 win over Stoke City wasn’t enough to stem the sales.

Indeed, Eriksen would only muster a single assist over his next seven outings as his price in FPL fell to 8.1 ahead of the Gameweek 13 trip to high-flying Chelsea – a match in which he was owned by a season-low of just 184,409 FPL bosses.

It was the clash against the Blues that would prove to be the turning point for Eriksen’s faltering campaign, as he recorded his second double-digit score from a first goal of the season and maximum bonus points.

Over the next eight Gameweeks, Eriksen produced a sensational run of form of four goals, eight assists and 10 bonus points to average an eye-catching 9.25 points per match.

By Gameweek 22, his value had shot up to 8.7 and he was owned by 696,107 managers.

The playmaker did then register four consecutive blanks, before embarking on a stellar run of form over the rest of the campaign.

Eriksen showed remarkable consistency, blanking in just three of his final 12 appearances while producing three goals, nine assists and 15 bonus points.

His total of 218 points placed him fourth among FPL midfielders and he finished with an impressive 30 bonus points – 13 more than team-mate Alli.

The Denmark international’s price peaked at 8.9 during the final few weeks of the season, but he remained a differential throughout most of the season, with the midfielder never owned by more than 845,000 managers.

While Eriksen enjoyed his most productive campaign yet, his underlying statistics suggest he could still have room for improvement.

The 25-year-old registered more shots (133) than any other FPL midfielder, although only 40 were from close range.

He also created more chances (112), outshining star midfielders such as Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.

The Prospects

With Eriksen’s output improving season on season, there looks a reasonable chance he could again better the 218 points he managed in 2016/17 next season.

Spurs scored more goals (86) than any other side in the top flight, meaning their attackers are likely to be high on our wishlists when it comes to formulating our initial squads.

One potential concern could be Spurs’ slow starts to their last two campaigns, managing just three goals in their first three matches last season, while in 2015/16 they only netted five times in their first six encounters.

Another issue may be the move to Wembley, given White Hart Lane was such a fortress last term.

They won 17 and drew two of their 19 home fixtures, scoring 47 goals.

It could take a few wins at Wembley for Pochettino’s side to gain confidence in their new surroundings following their disappointing European performances at the home of English football last season.

So some Fantasy managers may not want to take the risk on doubling up on the Spurs attack, particularly bearing in mind the wealth of premium options from other clubs.

Given Eriksen’s strong performance during the 2016/17 campaign, a price hike to either 9.0 or 9.5 looks likely.

Team-mates Alli and Kane are also set to rise in price, making it more difficult to load up on the Spurs attack as many FPL bosses did during the second half of last season.

It’s therefore likely from the outset that managers may only look to start with just one Spurs attacker. Given Kane’s outstanding form during the run-in, he looks in pole position to earn the bulk of that investment.

Eriksen’s consistency shouldn’t be underestimated, with his excellent delivery from set-pieces always likely to ensure a steady stream of attacking points, although many Fantasy managers may initially ignore his claims at the start of next season.

But with his numbers improving year on year, there’s every chance he’ll once again be among the top-scoring midfielders on offer.

I suppose the reason poor people vote for for the right of center party's is because they want to be rich too and not stuck in the poverty trap of welfare and high taxes to pay for all those ''free'' services you are harping on about

And has voting Tory for most of the past century achieved that?

Are the poor now rich? Or are the rich of today just the descendants of the rich of 100 years ago?

I don't think anybody doubts that. The real win is that somehow Corbyn will claw it back to a reasonable defeat. May was banking on a landslide to demonstrate she could put through whatever crackpot ideas the Tories had for Brexit as a mandate. She'll fall short of that so we can at least be thankful for that.

My gut feeling in 2010 was that if he hadn't joined with the Tories and sat in opposition then he had so much momentum behind him and his party he may well have been a real player by now for the Lib Dems...as it is they're nothing but chip wrappings...

I think that's just rubbish made up because we backed away from
VVD (Liverpool won't get VVD so lets link him with every CB under the sun type thing), from what I'd heard was that we were not interested in a CB until VVD became an option (or something along those lines, basically once it was clear he wanted to join us), if that's the case I think we won't look at any other CBs until next year.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

What are your early thoughts about Spurs options next season?

With Kane, Eriksen and Alli all set for substantial price hikes the days of doubling or tripling up on their attack look long gone.

If say Kane is 13m and Eriksen and Alli are in the 9-10m category, as is likely...which one are you getting?

Is Eriksen's all round Fantasy potential the best option?
Is Kane worth his inevitable huge price rise?
What of Alli - can he offer even more attacking threat next season, and dare I say, become Lampard-esque?

And what of the Wembley factor - does that put you off?

Trippier looks tempting if Spurs don't buy a 1st choice replacement. Kane is probably going to be an expensive Agueroesque must for safe captain choice. Unsure on Eriksen vs Alli, may depend on price.

On the one hand, Wembley isn't ideal. But on the other, they're the most settled of the top teams, we probably already know their first XI for the first day of the season, and that's invaluable. If fixtures look nice, doubling won't be a bad idea.

I like Kane - even at 13m. Key reasons are that he is nailed, he has pedigree, he is the main attacking threat and on penalties -which for a team like Spurs with so many tricksy players waiting to be failed in the box - is important.

Alot depends on whether ManU, ManC, Chelsea or Arsenal can provide a similarly attractive forward option.

I think in midfield there will be so much competition that it may be the best place to tap into Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea in particular....which could make it difficult to afford Alli or Eriksen.

Prices will be key but I think we can pretty much assume that this Spurs trio will have a hefty mark up next season.

Tempted. But I think Lukaku (if at Chelsea) will match his output for a lower price. So he may take this slot.

Wembley factor is huge, both in terms of the size of the pitch and the impact on Poch's high intensity, overloading style of play, and the distance between the stands and the pitch.

Also, unlke Liverpool or Man City; Spurs have great defensive options.

I'll be looking at Trippier; and one of the holy trinity and play a wait-and-see on how Wembley affects them

Kane HAS to be in. 13.0m and is the "heir to Kun" in terms of being the auto-captain of choice. I can't see past him for one of my striker slots.

However, this will inhibit the rest of my team as we have found with Kun/RvP/Drog characters of seasons past; I might be tempted to go for a Spurs defender and Kane, and then use the mid to cover elsewhere here.

I do love Eriksen as a fantasy option, but it will really depend on who the herd in my ML get in: if it's Alli, I go Eriksen, and vice versa... probably to my overall detriment but at least weekly I might get some gains 😀

Just Kane for me, even at 13m. We all had Aguero at the start of this season didn't we?

Although if Hazard is out injured, and Sanchez is not in the prem any more, then another premium mid spot for Alli/Eriksen may open up......

Will ignore for the first 6 games (bar Trippier perhaps), unless the fixtures are very tasty. Will monitor them over that time & then could always wildcard them in, but all 3 of them started slowly in 16/17 & feel with the Wembely factor, that looks set to continue.

Everything depends on Start of year schedule and summer transfers and their prices. Ended the season at 109 TV... 100 TV will make those inflated Spurs prices tougher to accommodate.

Out of the trinity, it would only be Kane for me as Spurs tend to be slow starters, and perhaps even more so this time with Wembley. If the fixtures were truly outstanding, I'd consider a double-up with Alli, but I'm steering clear of Eriksen. He's always been a bit of a troll for me which sounds daft considering he's regarded as the consistent one.

Outside of those three, if Walker is sold then Trippier is going straight into my defence if he's 5.5 or less. I love Danny Rose, but he's probably going to be 6m, plus injury and card prone.

      15. Legomane
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 6 months ago

Trippier or Davies at 5.5 may be my go to 1st defender depending on the Walker Rose whispers
Kane will be near impossible to look past. Expecting 12.5m and expecting him to be worth every penny.
Alli and Eriksen for me should be upped to 9.5m options, that makes them rotation options for me, in and out of the team depending on form.
Spurs sluggish early season form has cost them dearly the past two years, can't see them falling into that trap again.

Trippier is one I'm interested in.

From the big three, Kane is almost a certainty for my squad. That'll probably do to start with, I don't want too many big hitters in one basket especially with the Wembley factor.

Kane and Trippier look like season keepers for me. I certainly wouldn't be put off of having 3 Spurs players though, regardless of the fixtures or Wembley factor.

If I get a Spurs mid it'll probably be Eriksen though. I like his reliability, even though Alli and Son are more explosive options.

I'll definitely start with Kane unless their fixtures are truly terrible. Eriksen and Alli will be wait and see because of all the other strong premium options in midfield.

Don't like the fact Spurs will be at Wembley all season, it's not their home. While not on the same level, look at how badly the Hammers struggled at the Olympic Stadium when they left the confines of the Boleyn Ground. Yet, talent is talent and Spurs are chocked full of players who posted excellent numbers last term.

As it stands now, putting together a team, not knowing prices I only have Kane included in my starting XI. Obviously with players on the move, a Spurs midfielder could hinge on Sanchez leaving the EPL. However if I look to secure my midfield I would select Eriken over Alli, as I feel he is more versatile, as the cog that makes Spurs go. Taking nothing away from Alli or Son.

Someone we should have a keen eye on this pre season is Everton's 4.0 right back Kenny. He has a good chance of getting player of the tournament in the U20's World Cup as he's been excellent in every game. Now Everton will be in for another right back and Southampton's Martina has been mentioned and I have to admit I've hardly seen the lad but he'll have to be some player whoever it is to get in front of Kenny.
I'll stick my neck out here and say Kenny is arguably better than Coleman. Strong words indeed and even though I'd be surprised if a fit Seamus didn't come straight back in that's how highly I rate Kenny. Coleman has the goal threat sure but Kenny has a much better delivery for assist potential and it's consistently good to boot.
Whether this tournament delays his previous season remains to be seen but for a 4.0 defender that we all need he's definitely one to watch, so get him on your radar and let's see what happens.

Waaahhh... better than Coleman? Will take your word for it but have to see him play a bit to agree with you. He'll have to be some player to be ahead of Coleman in the coming season.

Yep, wasn't he 3rd choice there too? Doesn't sound all that tbh. If the link is true it gives more weight to the Kenny argument as Martina could be there as back up to not hinder Kenny's progress until Coleman recovers. He obviously doesn't have a problem sitting on the bench.

          Arguably not probably 😉
I'm guessing he'll be 4.0 based on the idea I can't see a reason they'd increase it without him making an appearance last season.

If he's 4.0 then not too much risk in owning him, however he is hardly likely to be a regular at this stage in his career. He may find himself being blooded more in the League Cup and Europa League campaign as Everton will likely struggle to cope fighting on so many fronts with their squad.

Bored...so i'll just chuck this out and see if anybody responds.

Somebody posted earlier about having second or third teams, which obviously got shunned, if anybody wants a second team then surely just play a second game, or a third game...there's plenty to choose from.

Which got me wondering. I've seen game sites where you can, in effect, make your own game and pts system...so do exactly as you please with regards to rules.

Has FFS ever considered making such a game for members. If so we could do it on the wilder side of the rules options to act as an antidote to the quite slow and staid rules of FPL. Any thoughts?

Sounds great. I'd like a competition where you try to have at least 1 player in every game of the season (380 games). Could do it using the existing game but would be nice to have points deductions for every game missed.

I play in two FFS draft leagues but the scoring used is more or less the same as FPL. Points are given for SoT and some defensive stats but really you wouldn't really pick different players because of this.

I'm not too sure how configurable it actually is either I've never created a league myself.

Said it before and i'll say it again. Sanchez is the best signing in world football right now. Ronaldo and Messi might be better players but your also bringing in a lot of peripheral, and possibly damaging, baggage into the dressing room if you could possibly sign either of those. Sanchez would do nothing other than boost every other player around him...as well as being a great player.

I just think you are getting too worked up about this. You have a view on Arsenal, which you are entitled to, but are just too eager to put it across. It is just another news story, like Bale to United. Can it happen, most definitely yes. Will it happen, more than likely no. The media reports yoyo-ing every single day should tell you something.

I don't see how Arsenal or Wenger sell him to be honest, especially after Wenger just signed a 2 year contract against everyone's wishes and promised to fight for the title. Him selling Sanchez and buying Mbappe just doesn't make sense. You are just obviously weakening your team. Get Aguero for Sanchez, and both players want to move, then maybe they'll work something out but a cash deal for Sanchez will literally shock me. Is Chelsea even in the race to sign him? There have been weird transfers but there are so many things that don't add up here. I'm just saying, look how all this is back with the agent and negotiations with Arsenal. All this after his move to City was supposedly sealed. I just think, he's probably waiting on intent from Wenger. Make a couple more signings and I'm convinced he'll stay. Very relaxed about it to be honest.

I don't see Sanchez staying at Arsenal. He would have signed a new contract or at least would have hinted at signing one. Nothing at all.

I think Arsenal will cash in on him, especially considering he only has 1 year left now and will probably leave for free next season if they don't sell him this year.

He has not done all that because he has not ruled out leaving. Why hint at signing and then not sign leading to even more speculation? Almost certain he's waiting on Wenger and his ambitions depending on the signings. And don't confuse this with any other season. Wenger doesn't have the time to rebuild the club and I don't see why the club will give him a 2 year contract only to piss him off. It's not that straightforward. He may still leave, but all that has gone on until now is just nonsense.

I'm not so sure. He managed to galvanise the young vote and they came out of their houses in droves into the polling booths. He ran a very effective campaign. I have doubts whether May would have risked an election with a more centrist Labour opponent.

He is the opposition after 7 years of not being in power. They should be much closer to winning if you look at history. There are no winners IMO. Because no one party was able to convince their opposition to turn. We are basically in the position of the country being divided. A strong party would be able to convince Labour voters to turn Tory or vice versa. Instead the UK is in a 'meh' state where noone is willing to change opinion.

The nonsense is that Corbyn thinks he has won. Last time I checked the Labour party had fewer seats and a lower share of the vote than the Tories.

The worst thing is many of the Labour voters are those who are poorer and/or younger people and they will be worst affected if UK borrowing got out of hand under Labour. They think it is bad now, but it will be much worse if borrowing gets out of hand.

And we are still in the crap. You want to borrow more even more now to nationalise the railways? If you are young speak to your parents / grandparents about what nationalised railways are like. Southern aside they will all get worse.

Sorry, I forgot the election was all about railways!? We currently subsidise them and they still make a profit - to be honest, I would rather the trains 'get worse' (which isn't actually guaranteed) than operate as they have been. Your original point was about borrowing, so when Labour do it it's bad and when the Tories do it it's good? Genius.

Silva is a great players to watch, but not an FPL prospect. More often than not he would blank/score lowly in games he'd have been MoTM for, and if you watched it back on MoTD, he'd have been assisting the assister, which is his main problem in terms of FPL.

Eriksen is better, attempts a lot of through balls and takes FKs to get those assists, but yes the goals can be patchy. However, he did get me out of a few tight spots with the assists and goals, but again in a few games (4-0 v Borunemouth in GW33 springs to mind - captained and only got 14 pts!) he can tend to fall prey to Silva syndrome...

Just my impression anyway, a lot of bias inherent there as you can see from my mostly anecdotal evidence 😀

He struggled a bit last season when he came in. Word is he has suffered from home sickness bless him and hasn't really settled. He's definitely one for the future though as got bags of ability. Whether he'll be a starter remains to be seen. I suppose it depends who they buy but at this stage you'd have to say it's doubtful.

What price do you think Kolasinac will be for Arsenal? Straight in at 6.0 or could he be 5.5?

I saw a post on the last article about comments Wenger made which would suggest he plays LWB, with Monreal at CB in the back 3. He got the most assists for a defender in the Bundesliga last season and Arsenal tightened up a bit at the end of the season. Could be tasty premium option.

I'd bet he his first choice. If Nacho takes a CB spot like Wenger indicated, that leaves Gibbs as his competition. Apparently he was the best LB in the Bundesliga last season. Not sure about any injuries.

Missed quite a few games here and there with little muscle problems. Aside from that he was probably the best player at the club last season, albeit Schalke largely underperformed under Weinzierl mind.

I'm looking at him myself but a little unsure if priced at 6.0. He could be quite frustrating with those niggling muscle injuries. He was at times in Bundesliga fantasy.

He's always been highly-rated but has struggled with injuries in the past yes. The season just finished was the best of his career to date - probably the best left-back/left wing-back in the league after Marvin Plattenhardt IMO. As I said last season was more of a frustration with him missing odd games unexpectedly with knocks or niggling injuries, when everyone had him in their teams because he was a points machine on won duels 😛 He's a very robust/aggressive player so maybe that played a part.

Personally think he'll be 6.0 as a guess. His attacking threat is huge as a wing-back - which is the position he played at the Veltins and will probably play next season.

Recall him scoring a header from 6 yards out to finish off a counter-attack last season vs Darmstadt. A small indication of how attacking he was.

I think Monreal will revert to an Azpi-type converted CB - was good there actually last few games of the season - with Holding/Gabs as the backups, and Kolasinac there. 5 a / 3 g last season bodes well, apparently quite the unit as well.

Let's hope for 5.5, like Walker was at the start of last season.

If Hector goes to Barca, Ox will be a Moses reverse OOP probably at RBW. Otherwise he'll be another option (he'll be 6.0 I suspect next year given how much of the season he missed)

Gotta see how he makes the transition to the EPL. Not sure I would pay 6.0 for a new arrival from the Bundesliga. Add to that, Arsenal was an absolute mess defensively until late in the season. This appears to be a good move, but I would take a wait and see approach before slotting him in as a starter on my XI.

In terms of adapting to the EPL,I think he'll fit in no bother. He's apparently very physical and robust. EPL sounds like the best leahue for him. Also, the idea of players settling into the league is less valid with defenders, at least FPL-wise, as they're part of a collective unit.

I think he will be 5.5 as not guaranteed starter. And I will be tempted to shop at that price.

As series of rumours doing the rounds right now about Liverpool bidding for a variety of defenders for between £17m and £25m. Sadly for them, this VVD saga being so public means that everyone knows they were willing to spend £50m+ on a defender to they will find it impossible to get one for much less now.

Hmm, I was wondering about that above... maybe they'll go back when it's blown over a bit. Plus it's looking like Puel might be on his way out so it'll be a very difficult sell to keep the player there.

Alternative is he goes to another UCL club instead.

I don't think they will. The statement made by the club was very explicit, they won't go back on that because it'd make them look even sillier, I don't think they'd want to even try to get something done with Southampton now because they'd be in a much weaker position negotiating anything.

I think he'll go to City, they backed off because the player made it clear he wanted to join Liverpool, now that that move won't happen the door is open for them again.

She's going nowhere. Wh'd want to unseat her with the Conserv party for the next 2 years with all that mess in Brussels to sort out.
They'll leave her where she is and be ready to stab her in the back when the time is right
