Huddersfield Town secured the services of Aaron Mooy on a permanent deal on Friday, after the midfielder played a key role in their promotion winning season while on loan from Manchester City.

The Australian international joins the Terriers for a club-record fee of £8 million, which could rise to £10 million depending on add-ons, and has signed a three-year contract, with the option of an extra year’s extension.

Speaking to the club’s official website, head coach David Wagner expressed his joy at being able to wrap up a deal for a player whose performances were central to Huddersfield’s success last term:

“As I said many times last season, Aaron was right at the heart of our team. When he played well, we usually played well – and won! His performances for us understandably brought a lot of interest in him this summer, so it is a big statement that Aaron wants to return to us… He is still a great age and has space to improve, which is exciting for us too!”

The History

Born in Sydney, Australia, Mooy’s big break came in 2006 when he joined then Premier League outfit Bolton Wanderers at the age of 16.

Mooy stayed with the club for the next four years, before departing at the end of his contract in July 2010 due to being unable to break into the first-team squad.

The midfielder joined Scottish Premier League side St Mirren, and made 21 first-team appearances over the next two seasons, registering once goal and three assists, before returning to his homeland with newly formed A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers in June 2012.

He scored four goals in 49 appearances, before moving to Melbourne City, where his career really took off.

Mooy registered 18 goals and 13 assists in 53 matches over a two-year period, with his performances during the 2015/16 season in particular, when he was named PFA Player of the Year, leading to the move to City in June 2016.

The midfielder was immediately sent out on loan to Huddersfield though, with Mooy producing four goals and seven assists in 48 league outings including the playoffs as the Terriers gained promotion to the Premier League.

After representing Australia at U20 and U23 levels, scoring six goals in 13 appearances, Mooy marked his senior debut with a goal and assist in a 9-0 win over Guam in December 2012.

Mooy has played 25 times for his country, producing five goals and eight assists.

The Prospects

Given that Mooy was never likely to break into the first-team picture at City, it came as little surprise to see Huddersfield’s Player of the Year return to the John Smith’s Stadium.

An all-round midfielder, Mooy boasts impressive technical ability, with his passing one of his main strengths, although his lack physicality and pace could be more apparent in the top flight. The Australian is, however, strong in a challenge and ranked fourth for tackles among Championship midfielders last season.

More importantly from a Fantasy perspective, he boasts tremendous quality through his set-piece delivery, and also took two of his side’s four penalties last term, scoring one and missing another.

Mooy impressively made more key passes (102) and successful tackles (114) than any team-mate, playing predominantly as the deep-lying playmaker in central midfield.

His output in the Championship, along with the fact Wagner has turned him into a more rounded midfielder, having played much of his football in Australia as a No 10, suggests a likely price tag of between 5.0 and 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

However, interest in Mooy could be drowned out by the attention given to another potential midfield target: Elias Kachunga, who was Huddersfield’s top scorer last season with 12 goals.

The DR Congo international made 36 of his 44 league appearances in the attacking midfield positions, with the other eight coming as a central striker.

He may well be classified as a midfielder in FPL then, and if priced similarly to Mooy, could hold the upper hand.

Wagner’s side struggled badly for goals last season, managing just 56 across the 46 league matches, suggesting that despite their favourable opening schedule, we should be wary opting for Huddersfield attackers as budget options.

The Terriers begin their campaign away to Crystal Palace, while over the first eight Gameweeks, they face just one of last season’s top seven (NEW, SOT, whm, LEI, brn, TOT, swa).

So should either Mooy or Kachunga impress in pre-season, there’s every chance they may be viable options as a cheap fourth or fifth midfielder, with Derby County’s Tom Ince potentially another option, with a fee agreed for the winger on Friday.

Mooy certainly looks capable of making the step up to the Premier League from a technical standpoint, and with his set-piece duties so prominent, he could be a factor in the coming season, particularly if he is the designated penalty taker.

But with other possible candidates in both midfield and attack and further new Huddersfield signings to come, Fantasy managers will hope that pre-season can provide some cast-iron evidence of a stand-out option.

These stages are too long. 160km should be the max distance to encourage better racing.

Nightmare scenario for the organisers. Day one panned out in a way that hands the longer stages to the sprinters and the SKY train.

This day will pan out with the SKY train reeling those four back in and a sprint finish....and a day ticked off for them.

They're attack is too good to pass due to rotation that could be over-hyped on here. There's hauls in there somewhere, so just buy a raffle ticket and hope for the best. As Nidge suggests Sane looks relatively well-placed, especially given Pep's fondness for him. Think I'm going with him at the moment. If Sanchez moves, could be him then.

David Silva is nailed on, but also likely to be rotated due to age. I would consider him at 8.0.

He's right... He can't be both nailed on and a rotation risk, that's oxymoronic. It may be true that Silva only missed 4 games, which implies that he's nailed on and NOT a rotation risk surely?

All this talk on here about Alex Sandro threatening Alonso when he's a Juventus player and a deal is far from imminent. The chatter in Italy is that Juve are working hard to get him to commit to the club and renew his contract. Why not just wait for transfers to actually happen or at least look overwhelmingly probable before considering their impact on FPL.

After 15 years at Bayern Munich, Badstuber leaves on a free at 28 years old. Which club do we think he will join now? Swansea, Newcastle and West Brom are reportedly after him.

I would love him to strengthen the Pulis back-line - it's looking very frail after Fletcher's departure and with McAuley continuing to fossilise.

What do people see in Mahrez? Had one good season (15/16) and now he is all the rage. He is just like Ramsay - went on a hot streak and didn't keep it up. Coutinho, Alli, Eriksen, Silva, KDB, Hazard, Pedro are all better than him to name a few.

Get your point but it would be better to compare him to wide players rather than central ones.

But I am limited, in FPL terms, as to the players I can choose. Is Mahrez really an option? Has shown me nothing except for one title winning season. Siggy a better option IMO too.

Damn, I don't get why all rumours are about Liverpool bidding for him. Why aren't other clubs active? PSG is looking for a CM, so is Barcelona, he's definitely within their budgets and probably the best choice on market.

In fact, if that €80M is true, it's a bargain in current markets.

I'm pretty sure they don't give a f*** about the money. It's not enough to actually replace the player, so imo a bad deal for them since they're in no shortage of money and will compete for both CL and Bundesliga next season. My bet is that the reason why they sell is that the player really wants to leave and is forcing their hand.

Yeah looks like Keita will have to force the move. I don't want to get excited yet as we'd have to agree a deal with the club. Deal with Keita has been agreed and that's been well reported. Here's hoping.

Very bored. How about small July fantasy game UCL and EL qualifications? - Fantasy Qualifications.

No aplication just everyone post their players here during the games as a reply to my post "Fantasy Qualifications" on every match day.
Rules: max 2 players from one team, no budget, free transfers, 1 pt for CS (no CS points for a player who will come from the bench), 1 pt for assist, 2 pts for goal, 2 pts for GK for save a penalty/missed penalty, -1 pt for RC, one tactic 1-3-4-3.

We pick players after we see lineups (as those teams are a bit unknowns and to have fun with 11 sure starters) so if one day there are few games at different hours we can pick for example 4 players form first games at 5PM, than 7 players form game at 7PM (remember that tactic is 1-3-4-3). Dedline to pick a player (as a reply to post about July Fantasy Qualifications) is a KO time.
    Example:
    Manager1 reply at 4:59PM : Hibernians - player x and player y, Vikingur - player z.
    Manager1 reply at 6:59PM: Linfield - player - xx.
    etc.

    Dates:
    GW1 04.07 - UCL 5 games (2nd leg), EL 2 games (2nd leg)
    GW2 06.07 - EL 48 games (2nd leg)
    GW3 11/12.07 - UCL 12 games (1st leg)
    GW4 13.07 - EL (games TBD) (1st leg)
    GW5 18/19.07 - UCL (2nd leg)
    GW6 20.07 - EL (2nd leg)
    GW7 25/26.07 - UCL (1st leg)
    GW8 27.07 EL (1st leg)
    GW9 01/02.08 - UCL (2nd leg)
    GW10 03.08 EL (2nd leg)

Dont know if anyone will be interested as I'm afraid that most will say it's stupid (and it's probably true) but hope for few managers to join.
Sugestions will be welcome but I want that game to be simple and easy so no rules like at least 60mins for CS points etc.

Sorry for long post and don't be cruel 😉

Also I will use this post here as main one. Will reply here (put link) every time I will make new post about every GW. Thanks to that it will be easier to find it.

            Repeat points system:
GK and def 1 pt for CS (only starters)
            GK,def,mid,striker 1 pt assist
            GK,def,mid,striker 2 pts goal
GK 2 pts for saving PK/missed PK (doesnt matter if saved)
GK,def, mid, striker -1pt for RC (nothing for YC)

All player positions, scorers etc aaccording to http://www.flashscore.com/

            Would yoy add/change anything?

What do Arsenal's fixtures look like?

You didn't ask me, but I'll probably go with more known quantities, avoiding all the newly transferred players first. Although Lacazette is quite a sure shot, and should fit Arsenal's tactics too, you never really know how it works out for a player in a new team.

That's what I say now, anyway, as I know dullard is the way to go. In the end, I go all maverick and captain Sandro Ramirez for the GW1, or something like that.

Not too bad. I like 5 out of 6 for attacking returns for Lacazette type of player.

Still I think the best advice is to be a dullard and go with the players who stay in the team and role they played last season.

Selling Sanchez or not, getting an actually top player early on, instead of waiting until the end of the summer to pay £30M for some possibly good 30-year-old, is not what Arsenal usually does.

Will publish an article on him as soon as it's confirmed, but 28g 3 a in 28 apps is really encouraging, as is 20+ g in the last 3 seasons.

Using our method he'd have gotten ~266 pts last time round. Top of the game, ahead of (for the short term) new team mate Alexis Sanchez.

Exciting as a fan. Finally an upgrade on le donkey.

I don't think he will start over Rondon. Pulis loves his hard working battering ram up front even if he doesn't score goals. The goals will come from set pieces and the midfield.

Kinda like Walcott would do then.

Arsenal won't interest Mbeppe, but they need to spend big. They've fallen out of the CL places and once Sanchez goes will look a long way short of clawing heir way back. The only player I'm interested in for my FPL squad might be Holding if he's still cheap and a starter.

Lacazette can be that player for Arsenal, if he can claim that role (depends on how it works between him and other players). He was that player for Lyon. Amongst the skilled forwards, he stands out with his relentless pressing and insatiable drive for attack.

If they sell Sanchez then they need to sign another attacking player. I personally think Mahrez would be better in a 4-2-3-1 formation as he likes to receive ball in space and run at defenders. That would mean they prob want someone like Lemar as well?? Hopefully monaco dont sell him

My bet is Lemar stays. For a few reasons.

By the policy they announced, that they can sell a couple of starters, but will keep the rest, the fact that they sold Silva suggests that Lemar isn't going anywhere.

He hasn't suggested he is looking for a transfer, has he? Probably more likely to want to keep his starting pace and get in the World Cup squad.

If they sell him, too, they'll soon have to sell Mbappé as well, because he said that he will only stay if the team stays competitive but if all other starters are sold, he goes too.

Most of all: they don't have to sell, and Lemar is the sort of player whose price is likely to go up. The rumoured bids really look a bit downwards when you compare to his performances and importance to the team, and to prices pid for other players.

Also, I don't think he fits in the teams needs as a replacement for the LW position, mainly because he's left footed and in that position relies largely on crosses and set pieces for his assists. That would give them an attacking midfield of 3 left footers, and they would make nothing out of Lemar's set pieces skills anyway. So, wrong casting imo.

If they were replacing Cazorla or Özil in a playmaking central midfield position (and maybe they should), then Lemar could be a good pick.

Mahrez doesn't so much replace Sanchez as he does replace Walcott on the RW. Arsenal has been crying a new RW for ages now, and it's time they get a one, and Mahrez fits in perfectly as an inverted winger.

If they continue with 3-4-2-1, then of course he replaces Sanchez.

Imo, they will still buy a replacement for Sanchez. Lacazette replaces Sanchez upfront, sort of, but that still leaves the left side looking for a right/both footed player. Ted Knutson tips Keita from Lazio. Then there's Dembelé from Dortmund, but he could look at this as a step down. Particularly compared to transfer to Barça or PSG who both are allegedly bidding.

Arda Turan from Barcelona (if he hasn't moved yet?) would fit in perfectly, imo. Superb passer, who can score goals and doesn't shun defensive work. His stats look like a perfect match with Arsenal to me. Another one who would fill the bill is - and I know this won't happen and everybody will hate even suggesting this but I'm just the oracle of the stats here - Nasri.

If they even continue with the 3-man defence. I actually doubt it.

It looked awful, it didn't strike me as a well thought out strategy but rather looked a panic solution to solve acute defence problems (why does this phrase sound so familiar when talking about Arsenal?), and if you read what Wenger has said about tactics, and look at his historical tactical choices, it doesn't fit in his tactical mindset to prefer that in long term.

Giroud does well for France because they play as system that suits his style. It's not as simple as Giroud plays for France ahead of Lacazette, so he's therefore better.

Giroud's France record is alright. International football is different to club football though. Arsenal don't really play to Giroud's strengths - no crosses, don't give him tap-ins etc

Deschamps likes the player profile and the fact that Giroud plays PL & CL. There are more Lacazette type of players in France (Griezmann, Gameiro, Mbappé), and he prefers the Atleti duo for La Liga & CL.

I think Utd will win the title. Mourinho knows the PL, knows how to manage a squad, knows how to keep things tight and is always better in his second season.

Pep still treats the PL like La Liga or Bundesliga, but it is more competitive and physically demanding. PL may not have the best teams in the world, but competition does mean more physical effort.

All depends on who you sign as striker IMO. Aubameyang or Lacazette would have been good as they are mobile. Not sure on Morata. Defensively you are very solid. Just need to get the offence ticking and that means going big on a striker and a defensive midfielder to free up Pogba. Pogba should be playing like Lampard used to.

Morata not exactly a galactico signing and wouldnt have the explosive pace of those two but he is more of an all rounder. Not a weakness imo. And at 24 would be a great signing. Agree on pogba..

Utd need to sign a top striker who is mobile. I don't know why they aren't looking at Aubameyang. Would even look at Dybala. Morata isn't as good IMO.

City will have the best squad IMO, I just think Pep will not get to grips with rotation in the PL. You can't change 5 or 6 players and beat teams like Bournemouth, West Ham etc.

Arsenal's Big money transfers in recent years is pretty spot on.

    Ozil
    Sanchez
Xhaka (?) 2nd season will give us more idea.

I expect Lacazette to hit the ground running straight away.
    Class Signing by Arsenal imo

He's a good signing. Scored 10 pens last season. If Sanchez goes, does Lac get them?

definitely. Sanchez is not a good penalty taker anyway 😉 but he if he goes What are the.options?
Ozil looks scared when taking pens
        Giroud ( uncertain)
        Cazorla ( permanently crocked)

        Its got to be Lacazatte

Mahrez got them at Leicester but I have no idea why, he always looked shaky while it was obvious that Vardy was the better penalty taker. It will be Lacazette.

    Hello everyone
Predictions for top scorer of 2017/18? My conjecture is Jesus if he stays fit.
Last season I thought Aguero under Pep would be "the golden boy" but what a damp squib.

Ozil behind Lacazette could be tasty for assists.

Have to see wagwon with Pogba. Could be a decent punt tbh, I also like Mkhi

Pedro interesting with no Haz. I like Willian personally
