Today we officially launched our pre-season guide page for build-up to the new season.

You can now access this via the main menu at the top of the page on desktop and via the slide-in on mobile and tablet. The pre-season tab has temporarily replaced the team news item.

This pre-season guide is something we run and maintain every season, with the aim to give you a complete summary of each team’s progress throughout their summer friendlies.

We list all the currently published fixtures and, as matches are played, we will link both to the club’s official report and also to the relevant scout notes page providing details for that match. We will also supply at a glance goalscorers and, where possible, assists on the round-up page.

As the friendlies progress, we will collect the key Scout Notes for each team and sum up the form players, listing their statistics achieved.

During this time, we will also re-launch our Scout Notes articles which provide summaries of the previous day’s friendly matches, including our take on the tactics employed and the events that took place.

Watford put out a development squad for their encounter with Woking on Saturday, so, as it stands, the major friendly matches look set to start on Monday July 10, with Stoke City’s tour of Switzerland getting underway. Further fixtures follow on Wednesday and then ramp up next weekend.

Throughout these matches, we will record every minute played by every player in a bid to round-up our coverage with a summary, not only of the best performers, but also those who saw the most action and are most likely to fit and firing for the opening fixtures.

The pre-season guide also acts as a hub for all our major summer articles. We collect all the Scout Reports, Moving Targets and team based articles for each club and list and link to them here.

So, if you missed an article or are pondering the potential of a new signing, check this section and, hopefully, we’ve got it covered for you.

If you are aware of any friendly match fixtures currently not listed, or would like to make a request for any other additions to our pre-season coverage, please drop us a line at support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What do you reckon is the best number of participants for a draft league?

Too few could leave the player pool to deep and it would not feel like a draft game. Or does the template heavy regular game make it so that you only need a few friends to get a proper draft feel?

Number 16 on last season's top scoring strikers was Origi. Would you lose interest or see it as a challenge?

Of course someone would pick the top midfielders before Origi and Vokes, but still. Coutinho would be player no. 16.

    Thoughts?

I don't think Zaha is essential. Perhaps if he's cheap he will be half decent value but surely not essential.

    6. Any player who is stupidly underpriced is a must-have

He'll be 7-7.5, Townsend started at that price last season and didn't have a good season behind him like Zaha.

In a vacuum 8.0 - 9.0 sounds alright, but that is a lot considering the price of the premium forwards.

I dont get the Defoe love. He was terrible imo but got saved by the pens he tucked away. At 34 he can decline over the off season and be even worse.

Not me. Tough initial fixtures and he won't get as many saves with a better defence than he did at Sunderland. Personally don't get 5.0 keepers, which is likely for him, anyway.

    Thinking something like:

    2x 4.5 keepers

    Bailly (5.5) // Bertrand (5.5) // Dawson (5.0) // Olsson/Fernandez (4.5) // Lowton (4.5)

    Alli (10.0) // Pogba (8.5) // Zaha (7) // Ritchie (6.5) // 4.5

    Lukaku (11) // Lacazette (10.5) // Gabbiadini (7.5)

Should be just about affordable if my price guesses are right

    1. Andy_Social
      • 13 Years

I think Lukaku will be a bit more but you're close enough.

For me Southampton are good for defensive personnel only.

      1. NIGHTHIKER - I Kane, I Shaw…
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 2 days ago

Was thinking that, but with the fixtures they have they will score a few goals and Gabbiadini (with the exception of Austin, who's been injured for ages) is the player I can see getting most of them. Redmond and Tadic just aren't FPL players. Was tempted to punt on Sofiane Boufal who I'll be monitoring in pre-season.

Well I'm inking in Cedric, and might double up if Stephens or Yoshida come in at 4.5

            • 11 Years
            9 years, 2 days ago

I'd only consider doing Bertrand -> Cedric if I need an extra 0.5 for a must have player and can't see anywhere else I can economise - owned Cedric quite a bit over the last few seasons and he's let me down quite a lot with injuries and rotation. Would avoid their CBs as the picture doesn't look clear at the moment - Bednarek could replace one of Yoshida or Stephens, and there's still Van Dijk to consider if he doesn't leave.

If my predictions are right my team will be based round

Was thinking that, depends if the transfer goes through before game goes live though. Hoping I might have over-predicted a couple as well - thinking defence should be accurate, but Alli, Ritchie, and Gabbiadini all could be 0.5 less.

        1. Lukey27

I agree, but FPL prices tend to be a projection of expected points more than an accurate value of the player in a real-time market. He did look decent at first (4 goals in 3 games) before tailing off, and I can't really see any other Southampton player offering consistent attacking returns (apart from Austin but he's returning from an injury and will probably get injured again during the season). Tadic and Redmond are both good players but don't tend to get great returns in an FPL sense.

Some people seem to think fpl should price players so that they can have all their favourites for 100m. One bloke was even calling on fpl to raise the 100m budget because it's too hard to get the expensive players. That got hulked ffs.
Pricing last season was the best balance I've seen in 11 years. The top strikers were put up to a premium. Proven goalscorers at smaller clubs were better value than past years. The 7.5 to 9 mids got stacked with tempting talent. The top tier of defenders and goal keepers were made to offer more value. It all made for some very interesting tactical decisions.

Have to agree with this and I'm looking forward to further movement in this direction, particularly keeping prices for defenders flat to make 4 or even 5 at he back viable and killing the 343 template.

Yeah good shout. One thing o noticed last season was a lack of appeal in mids below 7.5. I think they cottoned on that great value cheap mids in the past enabled the templates and made the game less challenging and enjoyable.

        1. 6.0 has ALWAYS been the midfielder's graveyard. 🙂

Think there were a few, no one stood out though. Tadic, Fabregas, Redmond to name a few, started in that mid priced bracket. Could have done better.

          1. Only Redmond. And he was 5.9 when I got him.

            Tadic 7.5
            Fabregas 7.5

The pricing has beem fair imo. Even the J.King move to a forward is understandable as Defoe could get injured at anytime and King would be striker.

I hope defenders (Evans,Olsson, Palace's Ward) are priced fairly (4.5) to make 4 at the back viable.

Brighton - defence wise, only the keeper (Ryan). Seems settled enough but don't think they'll keep enough clean sheets at the start of the season. Only attacking players I'd consider for now would be Knockaert, Gross and Murray - but they don't have the fixtures to make investing in them for a GW1 squad worth it.

Huddersfield - seemed pretty solid defensively last season, so again maybe the keeper (Lossl). Malone and Jorgensen signings will put question marks over the LB and CB positions, so their only defender I'd consider would be the RB, Tommy Smith. Not keen on midfielders or strikers - Mooy too defensive, Ince new to the team, unproven at this level and seems a little overpriced at 6.0m. Not clear who out of Mounie, Kachunga, Depoitre and Wells will provide the best striking option so I'd steer clear for now at least.

Newcastle - best fixtures out of the promoted sides, however team is far from settled with even goalkeeper position seems uncertain, many fans are saying Darlow isn't up to EPL standard and wanting a replacement. Lejeune signing will make CB positions unclear, so I'd consider Yedlin to be the best option, with Dummett maybe viable at a push. Attacking wise, Ritchie and Gayle should be the highest scoring options but will be priced accordingly. I'd look at Diame, Shelvey and Perez but only if playing 3-5-2.

Telegraph prices released on Friday. Some interesting price hikes.

Sanchez reclassified as a forward and firmino. Kane now 7.0 mill and the most expensive player in the game.

Chelsea defenders have also rocketed, Alli is 5.8 and Eriksen is now 5.5. Lacazette could be a steal at 6.0.

    Thoughts?

I tend to start the season with 2 4.5s to free up money elsewhere - however out of the starting keepers I can only see Lossl, Darlow, Ryan and Hennessey definitely being 4.5.

Other keepers I can see potentially being 4.5 are Fabianksi, Begovic, Foster and Gomes, but all equally likely to be 5.0.

Regarding Man City players - do you think it is better to start the season with none due to the depth of attackers?
Jesus, Aguero, Sane, Sterling, De Bruyne, D Silva, B Silva, Gundogan, Yaya & Fernandinho

City always seem to start the season very strongly, too risky to go without.

Just start with Jesus or Sane and swap to someone else if they start getting rotated...which they probably won't...

What do we think their starting attack will be?

I was thinking Jesus, Aguero, B Silva with KDB, Gundogan and Fernandinho behind

No idea, but Sane looks fairly safe, something like:
            Aguero
            Sane - KDB - Jesus - B/D.Silva

No. Go with one. Sane for me. Their attack is too good to pass.

Sane was their best players in the second half of the season by far.

Cant see B Silva sitting on the bench though

Sane left wing, Bernardo right wing. Sane is a favourite of Pep's and got regular starts once he was bedded into the team. Only problem for Sane's minutes I can see is if Sanchez moves to City. He's in my team as long as that doesn't happen.

Just thought, no point in putting in Cédric as he's been on Confederations Cup duty. Might not be ready for 12th August. Anyone think different?
