An unprecedented summer podcast arrives following the Fantasy Premier League launch, as Jonty, Andy and Luke join me in the afterglow of a joyous day.

Technically “on the beach” and fighting back to full fitness, we nonetheless brave the airwaves to chime in on the price list, reclassified players and some early formation dancing.

We glory in the potential bargains, lament the overpriced and make bold claims on our lineups that will doubtless be reversed come August 11. If Andy has Chris Brunt in his Gameweek 1 squad, I’ll eat my Free Hit chip.

The FPL Draft game gets a rinsing, and we end the show with our proud declaration of our team ID’s. A conclusion that leaves me feeling rather inadequate even before a ball has been kicked.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

With almost a day of tinkering behind us, what's the biggest difference you see in your thinking / drafts compared to previous seasons?

Thinking of going for a 3-5-2, normally a 3-4-3 person. Wanting Luk, Sanchez and Kane means compromise!

True, can't find 3rd striker I'm comfortable with

Deeney could be ok? 6.5 and a modest proven record

Seems the previous manager lost faith in him, so it's up to the new manager to use him or not. Pre-season should give clues.

The 6-8M 3rd striker slot's a lottery, proven every season. Feels like you have to go either high or low if you dont want to end up chasing points.

Defoe and Tekkers look solid options, and then there's ..... Rooney!

Getting those two @ 8M means setting up a definite 3-4-3 though - one at a new club, the other with a new manager. Very limited choices for swaps.

Limited front 3 option but tempting so much that I couldn't think other than 3-4-3 or 4-3-3

With the resurgence of wing-backs a 4-4-2 is looking very tempting indeed. The tipping-point looks around 5.5/6.0/6.5, WB's begin to look better than attackers at those points below 7.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 13 Years
        8 years, 12 months ago

Right. What's happened is that FPL Towers have tweaked the prices to make mid-price MIDS (8-10m) and high-price defenders (5.5-6.5) look more enticing to forwards below premium-range. Fair play to them!

      2. 42towels
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 12 months ago

        The variety of formations indeed.

Usually, I'd fill up the 3-4-3 knowing there'll be enough balance for easy similar priced swaps.

Now, since the formation itself is unclear, I am very tempted to actually leave 1-2M in the bank so that it doesnt matter where the upgrade needs to be.

Underwhelming milfields. Apart from Ali, the rest are all hit and hope.

It's 'hit and hope' for below 9M, but the premium ones are consistent enough?

Alli, Eriksen, Mane, Coutinho, Sanchez, KDB with a sprinkling of the new guys.

        1. Jafalad

Undoubtedly. It's affording the buggers that's the issue.

    5. MTPockets

No Sanchez, and consideration of not setting up for 3-4-3.

    6. Four Letter Wirtz

Very few 4.5 defenders that look interesting. 5.0 seems to be the new floor (e.g. Mawson, WBA, etc).

But two or three really promising 4.5 mids (TCarroll and RLC).

      4-3-3 could work

      Ignoring high priced mids

  2. Andy_Social

Not really a change for myself as I called most of the prices right ahead of the lauch, but I've been arguing that we'll see the end of the lazy 343 template in favour of a greater diversity of formation options, and I think that's being borne out.

    1st go!

    Foster
    Cedric Lindelof Yedlin
    Sanchez Loftus-C Tadic Sane Pedro
    Lukaku Kane

    Myhill /4.5 def /4.0 def /4.5 fwrd

    Awful bench but gets me
Both Luk and Kane with Sanchez
    Some Man C and CH
2 SOT and 2 Man U for fixtures
I normally WC after 4-5 weeks and cant see that changing this year!

    Thoughts welcome

Less drastic plan is Pedro to a 4.5, play Lofus every week and have 3.5 to make 3rd fwd Defoe. But then no CH

If you know the administrator, it's their ID followed by the ID in the url when select league.

e.g. if their ID is 1234, and league url is fantasy.premierleague.com/a/leagues/standings/56789/classic it's: 1234-56789.

I know I know another RMT post,
But if someone could offer their thoughts, it would be much appreciated.

1st draft not that happy with only having Brunt or Mata as a 5th mid over a 3rd striker Gayle. Or Maybe that's not a bad choice for opening 6 GW's

    Foster

    Trippier McAuley Cedric

    Alli Sane Brunt Redmond Mata

    Kane (c) Jesus

    Heaton Gayle Naughton Rangel

Are you completely sold on the two keepers? With WBA fixtures you could keep Foster, downgrade Heaton to a 4m and bring in Pogba for example?

          1. RubberDucky
            8 years, 12 months ago

            Cheers

I'm not really sold on anyone except Kane and Alli,

Heaton was a great rotation with Pickford last season so threw him in.

I have 2 WBA purely due to 1st 6 GW's. I think the myth about being good for CS's ended last season.

This team is really just based on 1st 6 GW's and proven in PL

    Good morning.
For those planning an early WC what do you think of setting up a team solely for gw1 and then wcing gw2? If you're expecting to use it gw3/4 why not just max out on gw1 instead? It's something I'm seriously considering.

So long as you have a nailed starting 11, I think it's a viable but risky tactic. Could be that the 4m fodder can be swapped out for the 4m starter that emerges without even WCing.

How many more points could you expect from a one week team and will that compensate for it?
For instance Everton have an easy fixture gw1 but will be very low owned. That's a potential great diff for a start.

Having an auto sub has made the following difference using the second and third sub

    2015 3 pts
    2016 8 pts
    2017 5 pts

It answers a question for me.

So we only need 12 players?

Well they are the numbers. GK is different.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean Smeggs. Could you explain a little further?

The points I gained having subs across the board was minimal.

Sounds like you're trying to justify a couple of 4.0s.. Don't go there

Facts speak for themselves. The 1st sub has been imortant. The other 2 less so by a distant margin. If I only fielded 10 and lost 2 points it may have been better, MORE MONEY LATER MADE IT EASY

If you have an injured or suspended player, do you leave him in your starting 11 ? If not these results are almost certainty screwed.

        Im thinking...

If inj, transfer immediately ... One-game suspension can ride out easily ... 3-games+ suspension: change if similar option available

Doesn't take into account when you have used your subs to cover injuries. Not flexible enough for me but good luck!

I agree with smeggs11 ... 10 players for one week, maybe 2 consecutive weeks, is not a problem

If it happens often tho, then it is a problem ..

Try to ensure have 11 players every week .... Thats enough

Not keen on the midfield. Loftus-Cheek as a 3rd midfielder doesn't give you great options because so much has been spent on forwards. I'd go for someone cheaper than Firmino (Defoe, King, Gabbiadini maybe) and use extra cash to upgrade on Carroll.

Tadic is my 3rd mid..I will go 4-3-3 with yedlin and holgate rotating..anyway thanks mate for ur opinion

Hoping a few transfers finally happen so FPL purposes! Van Dijk to Liverpool & Mahrez to Arsenal would give us great options at 5.5 & 8.5.

Any others you are hoping to see?

I like it enough for a copy and paste I will paste back after slight alterations 🙂
      Like the balance to it
      I would question Mustafi
And take a bit more risk on 1 cheaper bench fodder for one upgrade.

Not sure if Mustafi will start over Holding. Need to monitor Arsenal over pre-season. Otherwise, very good.
