Tom Ince hits his third goal of pre-season as Huddersfield Town lose in Germany, while a Stefano Okaka strike is enough for Watford to seal their first victory of the summer.

Here are Tuesday’s notes.

SV Sandhausen 3 Huddersfield Town 2

Summer recruit Tom Ince scored for the third consecutive match as Huddersfield slumped to a 3-2 defeat against their Bundesliga 2 opponents.

The midfielder, currently one of only three Terriers players enjoying more than 2% Fantasy Premier League ownership, curled home from the edge of the area after coming on at half-time.

Pre-season goalscoring exploits always need to be taken with a generous measure of salt – Burnley’s Andre Gray (9 goals) being a prime example last summer – but Ince’s form is welcome for those of us looking for an asset to exploit Huddersfield’s kindly start to the season (pal, NEW, SOT, wham, LEI, bur).

Elsewhere, club record signing, Benin forward Steve Mounie, was also on the scoresheet – his second goal in as many matches since his move from Montpellier.

Both goals were set up by Rajiv van La Parra.

The match was rather less memorable for defender Martin Cranie, who was brought on after 54 minutes and promptly had a hand in two of the German side’s goals, including the concession of the penalty that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Town coach David Wagner again stuck to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation and made a raft of changes at both half-time and on the hour-mark.

But a number of players remain unavailable to him. Tommy Smith (foot), Nahki Wells (ankle), Jon Gorenc Stankovic (knee) and Michael Hefele (Achilles) are injured, while Aaron Mooy is still on extended leave following Australia’s participation in the Confederations Cup. Meanwhile, Scott Malone suffered a knock and was forced off on 40 minutes.

Huddersfield Town XI: Lossl (Coleman 46); Scannell (J Williams 46), Jorgensen (Edmonds-Green 75), Schindler (Cranie 46), Malone (Lowe 41); Hogg (van La Parra 60), Whitehead (D Williams 60); Kachunga (Billing 60), Palmer (Lolley 46), Quaner (Ince 46); Depoitre (Mounie 60).

Viktoria Plzen 0 Watford 1

A Stefano Okaka goal 10 minutes from time handed Watford their first victory of pre-season.

The striker, currently the Hornets’ only fit first team forward, scored from close range having been set up new signing Will Hughes.

The former Derby County midfielder had been handed 20 minutes by coach Marco Silva to make a good first impression, and he did just that.

Silva again employed a 4-2-3-1 formation in a match in which neither goalkeeper was overly busy, but right-back Brice Dja Djédjé at least caught the eye, coming on at half-time and impressing in an unfamiliar role on the left flank.

Etienne Capoue was again deployed as part of the attacking midfield three behind the striker, with Ben Watson and Abdoulaye Doucouré occupying the roles in the double pivot.

Watford XI: Gomes (Pantilimon 60); Janmaat, Prödl, Kabasele, Holebas (Dja Djédjé 46); Watson, Doucouré; Berghuis (Amrabat 46), Capoue (Hughes 68), Success (Sinclair 68); Okaka.

Surprised Jesus isn't in more teams, few things I like about him:

    - Upfront for City, a team who score goals and always start well.

    - Priced at 10.5m which is reasonable considering strikers for Utd, Spurs are considerably more.

    - Proved himself big time last season, made the team play better as well.

    - On penalties.

    - Very young so will most likely improve, and last season he was brilliant when he played. Exciting.

    - Pep loves him and even though rotation is inevitable, he is less prone to it, id put him in the same bracket as Ederson, Kompany, Walker & KDB.

      - Aguero @ 11.5
      - Aguero is well proven
      - Aguero on penalties
      - Aguero is well improved
      - Aguero

Him and Ozil should have both scored already. I have Ozil in my draft but only playing with two strikers (Kane and Kaku) ATM. Lacazette and Kun are tempting me over Lukaku only for fear of his ownership.

Ozil on my mind, but I don't even have Spurs mids yet, and I'm not sure whether I could prioritise Ozil, when there are far too many Arsenal players I want (for some ongodly reason). I think you should just get Lacazette if you want him. You did the same with Ozil already. Surely you want the goals as well as the assists!

Yeah Ozil has been slightly improving as far as goalscoring is concerned. I had Sanchez but with uncertainty on his future I dropped to Ozil and bulked the defence. If Sanchez commits to Arsenal I'll go back to my original draft. Are you looking to get Spurs mids to add to Kane also or have no Kane?

Why choose a proven solid goal scorer backed by last years hit squad when you can flash out on an unproven PL newbie and a mover from 7th team to 6th which clearly multiplies goals scored, or choose a player who was better but recently getting sidelined by his manager.

you don't really think Kane can do it on a sunny August day at Wembley surely.

We were all on the Aguero bandwagon this time last year and it didn't work out after his first sending off early doors even after a brutal start, the word 'essential' is almost non-existent compared with last year. Kane is known as a slow starter then cuts people apart November onwards. There fixtures aren't as kind early doors as other teams...

... This being said... I have Kane.

      Hope this helps?

ı am going with the same frontline, are you happy with the rest of your team? I have some concerns thats why I'm asking.

Arsenal's defence way too leaky. The opponent may be Bayern, but still, feels like they don't care and leave it all to Cech

Neymar would have to score a goal every 2 minutes for the whole season (1658 goals) to represent the same value per goal as Michu was in his debut season, if he moves to PSG

So Dann, Ward and Delaney starting as the 3 CBs today.

That's Delaney 1-0 Tomkins so far...

        Fingers crossed Riedewald is 4.5m.

Indi is just a rumour atm, Stoke seem keen to keep.

Not Stokes player though, Palace can outbid them comfortably

Martins would be excellent, but yeah think it will come down to the money.

Is this team too light up top? If so what adjustments do people recommend?

    Forster (Elliott)

    Milner Cedric Trippier (Ake) (Hunemeir)

    Alli Eriksen Sane Tadic Ramsey

    Lukaku Benteke (Mcburnie)

I'd drop Forster to Foster in GK and save some valuable coin.

Milner drop to Daniels for another 1.5 mill save, Ake to a 4.5 DF.

Use that extra money to to strengthen Mid and 3rd Striker

trouble is there are no good budget strikers. Hopefully someone gets signed that offers value here...

Dwight Gayle for me, looks so sharp. Got a point to prove, smashed it last season. His goals to minutes in the prem, mostly as a sub previously very good too. I saw him when he was at Dag and Redbridge and could tell he was an instinctive poacher. Big season for him and think Newcastle in general will do well.
