Tom Ince hits his third goal of pre-season as Huddersfield Town lose in Germany, while a Stefano Okaka strike is enough for Watford to seal their first victory of the summer.

Here are Tuesday’s notes.

SV Sandhausen 3 Huddersfield Town 2

Summer recruit Tom Ince scored for the third consecutive match as Huddersfield slumped to a 3-2 defeat against their Bundesliga 2 opponents.

The midfielder, currently one of only three Terriers players enjoying more than 2% Fantasy Premier League ownership, curled home from the edge of the area after coming on at half-time.

Pre-season goalscoring exploits always need to be taken with a generous measure of salt – Burnley’s Andre Gray (9 goals) being a prime example last summer – but Ince’s form is welcome for those of us looking for an asset to exploit Huddersfield’s kindly start to the season (pal, NEW, SOT, wham, LEI, bur).

Elsewhere, club record signing, Benin forward Steve Mounie, was also on the scoresheet – his second goal in as many matches since his move from Montpellier.

Both goals were set up by Rajiv van La Parra.

The match was rather less memorable for defender Martin Cranie, who was brought on after 54 minutes and promptly had a hand in two of the German side’s goals, including the concession of the penalty that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Town coach David Wagner again stuck to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation and made a raft of changes at both half-time and on the hour-mark.

But a number of players remain unavailable to him. Tommy Smith (foot), Nahki Wells (ankle), Jon Gorenc Stankovic (knee) and Michael Hefele (Achilles) are injured, while Aaron Mooy is still on extended leave following Australia’s participation in the Confederations Cup. Meanwhile, Scott Malone suffered a knock and was forced off on 40 minutes.

Huddersfield Town XI: Lossl (Coleman 46); Scannell (J Williams 46), Jorgensen (Edmonds-Green 75), Schindler (Cranie 46), Malone (Lowe 41); Hogg (van La Parra 60), Whitehead (D Williams 60); Kachunga (Billing 60), Palmer (Lolley 46), Quaner (Ince 46); Depoitre (Mounie 60).

Viktoria Plzen 0 Watford 1

A Stefano Okaka goal 10 minutes from time handed Watford their first victory of pre-season.

The striker, currently the Hornets’ only fit first team forward, scored from close range having been set up new signing Will Hughes.

The former Derby County midfielder had been handed 20 minutes by coach Marco Silva to make a good first impression, and he did just that.

Silva again employed a 4-2-3-1 formation in a match in which neither goalkeeper was overly busy, but right-back Brice Dja Djédjé at least caught the eye, coming on at half-time and impressing in an unfamiliar role on the left flank.

Etienne Capoue was again deployed as part of the attacking midfield three behind the striker, with Ben Watson and Abdoulaye Doucouré occupying the roles in the double pivot.

Watford XI: Gomes (Pantilimon 60); Janmaat, Prödl, Kabasele, Holebas (Dja Djédjé 46); Watson, Doucouré; Berghuis (Amrabat 46), Capoue (Hughes 68), Success (Sinclair 68); Okaka.

Alexis omitted from a somewhat strong arsenal side vs Bayern are we expecting him to not play for arsenal this season?

Hey guys! Feels good to be back in a new season. Hope you are all well!

Here is my zero-day first draft. I have not had a chance to chew on all your fine analysis, which I will do between now and the end of the season. I know you will let me know how shit Draft 1.0 is 🙂

    Foster / Gomes
    Kompany / Trippier / Daniels / Simpson / Mee
    KDB / Alli / Ramsey / Puncheon / McAurther
    Aguero / Lukaku / Rondon

not bad for a first draft. do you need a 4.5 5th defender ? every 0.5 helps

Fixtures are irrelevant when it comes to Rondon. He could be up against Hayes & Harlington every week and he still wouldn't score.

Beeen there, done that, got the t-shirt.

such a non-sensical question. points are awarded per player, not for teams - so 'cover' for another player doesn't help your score.

Thoughts of Sturridge? Klopp really believes in him:

Yes, the problem is that if he doesn't there could be a lack of alternatives at this price for attackers. Last year I should have jumped on the 3-5-2-train earlier instead of jumping from one 3rd disappointing attacker to another. IMO there is easier to find alternatives in the 6.5-bracket in the defence or midfields.

Why so much love for Foster/Elliot? Wouldnt Henessy/Elliot have similar potential?

Yes but you don't have to rotate Foster.

Assuming Elliot is starting, how is not rotating an advantage? Also Foster started every minute last year for meagre returns for a Pulis team. Im guessing Pulis teams = low goal scoring chances = less points for shot stopping.

Doubt Elliot will start by time season comes. Rafa has made no secret he wants a new keeper

Fair point! Either ways im looking a stop gap till GW 6 where i can bring in Pickford. With those (from GW6) fixtures for a Koeman team, he should be a banker for a long time.

Thoughts on this team? Aiming not to use wildcard early on, but still biased towards first three fixtures though...

    Foster Eliot
    Tripper Lindelof Cedric Dunk Mee
    Alli Fabregas KDB Mooy Loftus-C
    Lacaz Lukaku Benteke

Possibly Ince for Mooy and downgrade elsewhere?

apart from fabregas and mooy this is almost as good as it gets.

in other words none. i'm seeing a lot of people picking fletcher at 4.5 but it's not a great pick imo. find the extra 1m and go for at least a 6.0 mate

I've listened to the people, and now have:

    Foster Elliot
    Lindelof Cedric Trippier (Mee, Long)
    Willian Sane Salah Phillips (Carroll)
    Kane Lukaku Defoe

    Look alright? Thanks

    THATS IT IM FINISHED.

    Foster
    Trippier - Dawson - Cedric - Ake
    Coutinho - Pedro - Pogba - Zaha
    Kane - Lukaku

    Elliot / Gayle - Oriol - Hunie

I like having Gayle on the bench with a 4 defence, plan is to downgrade Zaha after first two fixtures.
