As promised, Fantasy Premier League Draft has been released and is now available.

The new game is free to play and runs in parallel with, and as an addition to, “traditional” FPL. If you’re registered for that game, you can immediately get involved with Draft.

The links don’t end there. The Draft uses the same scoring system as FPL with only one exception – there are no captains or vice captains.

The first step is to create or join a league.

Private leagues can include up to 16 managers, although the game itself states that eight is the recommended number. That is the limit for public leagues – you can enter those with random members of the FPL Draft community.

Like the traditional FPL game, leagues can run in the classic form or in the head-to-head format.

The key selling point of Draft is that, within a league, each 15-man squad is unique. So only one team in each league can own Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku.

The draft system used is described as a “Snake Draft”, where managers take it in turns to select players until a squad is complete over 15 rounds. There is no budget or player prices.

League administrators can set a draft date and time for private leagues, while public league drafts begin 24 hours after the first team joins.

You can build a Watchlist before the draft, and this can act both as a shortlist of players you’re coveting and also a list to govern your automatic picks should you be “away from keyboard”.

Things get really interesting when we start dealing with transfers after the draft is complete. Bear with us on this.

Transfers, or “Transactions”, are made in two ways – managers can make what is called “Waiver Requests” or they can dip into the Free Agent pool.

After the draft, all the remaining players are up for grabs but, initially, only through waivers.

These operate like transfer requests from managers who propose both the player they want and the player being swapped out.

A weekly deadline is set for waivers to take place and, when that is reached, they operate a lot like the draft.

Indeed, before the season starts, managers get their first waiver requests granted in the reverse order of the draft. So if you went last in the draft in Round 1, you will be the first to get your waiver request processed.

However, once you have succeeded with a Waiver, you go to the back of the queue.

Things change when the season starts, with the waivers granted in reverse order of the league table. So if you’re bottom, your waiver will be granted first to give you the best opportunity to strengthen your team.

Players that are free agents become available once all the waiver requests are made. These consist of players remaining in the pool and players that were released by other managers in the previous Gameweek.

Managers can draw from the free agent pool 24 hours before the Gameweek deadline and it’s on a first come, first served basis.

There are no direct trades between managers.

That, I think, provides a summary of how the transfer system works. However, it is somewhat difficult to explain, and further examination of the rules may reveal other mechanics missed or misinterpreted.

Fantasy Premier League have published an FAQ on the Draft game, and the full rule set is available here.

In addition, community writer and experienced draft campaigner Pav A Nice Day has already published two essential articles. His tips for success was followed today with his own draft rankings to help shape your personal Watchlist.

We will certainly be playing FPL Draft this season. Will you? Vote in our poll on the homepage, or via your slide-in menu on mobile, and let us know.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Silly Question...

Why are people so concerned about dead teams in FPL drafts when there are so many dead teams in normal mini-leagues. What's the distinct difference?

You need people to be active so they trade players in and out.

So that you can get the players they trade out?

No one is really going to be trading out top players. More likely than not players being traded out at best will be marginally better than what you'd find in Free Agent pool

And if they are dead teams then they definitely won't be transferring out players.

People transfer out good teams all the time for various reasons, such as injury.

would have to be long term for a player to drop one of their star players for someone on the waivers list.

I'm not trying to be difficult I just can't see a significant difference.
If dead teams have good players then they are unable to get latest bandwagons similar to a normal mini league. In an ideal world you'd want a fully competitive league but without trades in this game I dont see a huge impact of dead teams vs a normal mini league.

        No offence meant btw

I've been scanning the Saints forums recently.

The majority have Gabbiadini in their predicted lineups as Pellegrino is a coach that likes his teams to press from the front.

Gabbiadini is a better fit for that system.

Still on the same team, though wondering day by day why I have Coutinho in apart from LIV coverage. Thus:

    Foster-Elliot
    Kolasinac-Trippier-Lindelof-Cedric-????
    Alli-Sane-????-Willian-LoftusCheek
    Lukaku-Lacazette-???

    Which is the better option?
    A: Yedlin, Coutinho, Fletcher
    B: Daniels, Wijnaldum, Rodriguez

Can't figure out what your formation would be with B. Five defenders all 5m or higher, a 7m 4th mid and a 6m 3rd striker. Looks like way too much money on the bench.

Anyone else worried about doubling up on Spurs considering the move to Wembley and the fact that Kane has started slowly over the last two seasons?

Thinking about going for Alli, De Bruyne and Lacazette rather than Alli, Ramsey, and Kane.

    1. ★Kuntheman★
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

I can understand Kane starting slowly, this whole stadium phenomenon has been greatly exaggerated

      1. Pooodle
        • 16 Years
        8 years, 6 months ago

It's a risk though. It's an unfamiliar stadium where they didn't do particularly well last season, and that makes me wary of having 2 attacking Spurs players (definitely going with Trippier due to his price). They also haven't bought anyone and most of the other top 6 teams have been spending heavily. If Kane's the most expensive player in the game you don't want to sit on him for 6 weeks with only 2 or so goals.

          A pitch is a pitch. If you're playing at Wembley, it's obviously a big game...because that's what Wembley's for.

Wembley will now host basic games like Spurs vs Huddersfield. There's no big game there. Of course Spurs have a questionable record in big games...they're big games.

As to what you're considering, there's a clear winner there. Lacazette can match Kane, De Bruyne destroys Ramsey

So much this. People point to them being poor in the Champions League last season and don't factor in that Monaco and Leverkusen are a lot better than bottom half English teams.

      I fully support this theory.

I don't get why Willian is in so many teams ahead of Fabregas. Fab has one of the best final balls in the league and Willian's output is average at best.

Fab plays in CM, where chelsea will play 2, and 1 will be Kante, and I'm pretty certain the other will be Bakayoko

Likely they play 352 this season and even if it's only 2 CM's Conte will want the extra creativity without Haz

You are taking a gamble based on big assumptions made by yourself and yourself alone . Also the pay off is unlikely to be very big how many double figure hauls did Fabs get last year ?

No one can know for sure, but if i was putting money on either to start the first few games, I'd go for Willian before Fab

I think it's because Willian is seen as a deputy for Hazard until he returns. Cesc may have competition once the new guy is fit to play.

I think Robertson is gonna be a top left back within a couple seasons under klopp. If he was English he would've cost £20m. If he can displace milner, which he should be straight away, he will create goals. The amount of times milner could've crossed/passed the ball first time last season but cut back on to his right foot was rediculous.

Tbf Matic was instrumental in Chelsea's PL win the season he joined and was a pretty important player last season (less so). Difference is their jobs. Sanchez scores goals so is more glamorous, Matic is a cracking DM though.

Not justifying prices in general, they've gone absolutely mental, but when guys like Walker are going for over £50 mill then 2 time PL winner Matic to play DM for your team which needs a DM isn't THAT ridiculous.

What's the story with Charlie Austin, is he fit now? Very suprised he's being overlooked, has a great track record of scoring when he plays & has fixtures from heaven... 6.5 price tag, all looks too good to be true!

Similarly with J-Rod, usually when he plays he scores he just has horrible injury priblems, but if he is fit, he is surely going to more than justify a 6.0 outlay. Matt Phillips may be a more reliable option in terms of fitness, but with West Brom's fixtures either look good.

Having those two allows a fairly heaveyweight 5 attackers around them in a front 7, e.g. Lukaku, Alli, Eriksen, Coutinho, Ramsey/Willian, Austin, J-Rod/Phillips... And still keep the oligatory Trippier/Lindelof/Cedric back 3 🙂
