Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, offering in-depth team-by-team analysis are Southampton. A side that carry extra significance ahead of the new campaign given their exceptionally kind early fixtures.

To get underway, we’ll analyse performance at a team level and attempt to spot trends or improvements. We then delve into the player data, analysing the key individuals as we scour for potential targets ahead of next month’s Gameweek 1 deadline.

In addition, we’ll also focus on any specific periods of interest brought about by tactical changes or breakout Fantasy performances – in this case we’ll focus on the Saints’ home/away displays, investigating a trend that saw them score just 17 goals in front of their own supporters.

Southampton finished in sixth spot under Ronald Koeman back in 2015/16 – a total of 63 points was just three points behind Manchester City in fourth. But the Dutchman’s decision to move to Everton proved detrimental to their prospects, with replacement Claude Puel struggling to maintain those standards.

Despite claiming eight place, Southampton bagged just 46 points and found the net on 41 occasions – a tally that bettered only the bottom five and well behind the 59 strikes under Koeman.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Best way to free 1m for J-Rod to Chicarito?

    a) Alonso to Kompany
    b) KDB to Cout
    c) Ramsey to Tadic and KDB to Mane
    d) Ramsey to Phillips
    e) Ignore Chicarito

Hi mate, need your help to choose the better options:

    A. Mee or other 4.5 def (4-3-3)
    B. Tom Caroll as 4th mid (3-4-3)

    Please explain.

    Would appreciate thoughts, thx you.

No, and obviously the ratings are higher in defence. It's not a measure you can use emphatically but it can show you what a player who's done well is a worth v another player who's done well 😆 There is a significant difference on KDB v the 9'5's.

My only thought on it is once they concede, a major point source is just gone for defenders. With the exception of maybe Alonso, midfielders have better chances to get points throughout the game. Id be fine going with 4 at the back but would like flexbility to switch to 352

If Cedric and RLC don't start GW1 you have to hope both Carroll and Cork gain you a point each.

You can afford one possible non-player on your bench. The fact that the others are Naughton and Carroll (both starters) gives sufficient flexibility.

Morning all, early morning for me and see United are being beaten by the might of Barca @ the moment.. Neymar AGAIN..

Current team while on vacation is looking like:

    DDG - Elliot
    Alonso - Trippier - Dawson - Cedric - 4.0
    Sane - Ramsey - Coutinho - Carroll - RLC
    Kane - Lukaku - Austin

4.0, Carroll and RLC on the bench with Carroll making the odd appearance when required. Interested to hear some thoughts as its been changed a few times out here.. Thanks all 🙂

Looking at 4 at the back rather than 5. How's this looking? In particular, how's the Phillips pick, any better at 6.0? Looking at the fixtures and his 115 pts for about 2/3 of a season I thought the value might be there. Also, might go with Austin for 3rd striker if he looks to be starting at the end of preseason.

    Foster
    Trippier, Cedric, Kolasinac, Alonso
    Alli, De Bruyne, Phillips
    Lukaku, Lacazette, Chicharito

Nice. If Jesus is guaranteed a start which it looks like he is it's a nice balanced team

I think its a decent team. You should monitor Austin and Blind (Darmian) situation.

Some big hitters with the lower value ones based on fixtures. Nice.
I would not risk Ramsey and Tadic myself but they are punts so GL

So who are better than tadic (fixtures...pens FKs etc) and ramsey who AW said will play in opening fixtures in more attacking role?

From comments on here sounds Blind was awful. Darmian looking more nailed? Going to have one of them.

He was pretty awful but I don't think one is more nailed than the other at this point in time

You will get a lot of criticism for the Midfield.... with a strong Front and Backline it is hard to make it better

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I know but I like it like that. This year there is too many very good options between 6 and 7.

Very similar. If you risk going without Alonso Ramsey can be Alli , might have to go Bert > Cedric too. But has a more balanced look and more flexible for midfield bandwagons going forward.

I like the top 3 I ain't budging from it. With a captain on one of those you are getting close to 1000 points. Well over 1000 is surely attainable from the others. That's how I see it anyway - in simple terms.

Thx mate. I think Ramsey will have a big season and I want an arsenal cover. I have kane so i don't see the need to have alli. Bert will start, cedric may not..

Yeah Ramsey load of potential and seemed to better at back end of the season with formation change. Yeah I gots monitor Cedric but Yosh will have to suffice.

Can't agree on Alli though he has to be excellent value.

Ok... You right. Would you prefer a team like this one
            Foster
            Yoshida-Trippier-Dawson-Daniel
            Alli-Wilian-Zaha
            Jesus-Kane-Lukaku

Cheers mate ! I love it
