Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, offering in-depth team-by-team analysis are Southampton. A side that carry extra significance ahead of the new campaign given their exceptionally kind early fixtures.

To get underway, we’ll analyse performance at a team level and attempt to spot trends or improvements. We then delve into the player data, analysing the key individuals as we scour for potential targets ahead of next month’s Gameweek 1 deadline.

In addition, we’ll also focus on any specific periods of interest brought about by tactical changes or breakout Fantasy performances – in this case we’ll focus on the Saints’ home/away displays, investigating a trend that saw them score just 17 goals in front of their own supporters.

Southampton finished in sixth spot under Ronald Koeman back in 2015/16 – a total of 63 points was just three points behind Manchester City in fourth. But the Dutchman’s decision to move to Everton proved detrimental to their prospects, with replacement Claude Puel struggling to maintain those standards.

Despite claiming eight place, Southampton bagged just 46 points and found the net on 41 occasions – a tally that bettered only the bottom five and well behind the 59 strikes under Koeman.

Anyone else still rolling the Kane Alli Trippier treble?

I still just can't seem to drop any of them. Alli would be the first to if pressed but damn 9.5 is so tasty.

Alli is still nowhere near hitting his prime IMO. Just can't see myself going without him, can score in any fixture.

Have toyed with Alli out for Coutinho and Kane out for Aguero/Jesus, but just can't commit to either.

Yep, we're on similar paths. Also considered KDB vs Coutinho vs Sane. Another tough decision.

          Mine?

          Foster Elliot
          Trip Cedric Daniels (Mee 4.0)
          KDB Alli Willian Phillips (TC)
          Kane Lukaku Gayle

A bit templatey but I'm attached to most of these guys now. Yours?

Kane, Eriksen and Trippier for me. I don't really see the risk in it. Scored more than any side last season. Conceded fewer than any side last season. Have made practically no changes so there's no learning curve. And of the first eight fixtures, only Chelsea is a worry...and that's not a Stamford Bridge.

City starting in a 3-5-2 with Kun & Jesus. Danillo at 5.5 as a wingback could be very good...

Jesus playing further up than Kun but both are pretty regularly dropping back to get the ball. KDB pretty dangerous so far from CM but it feels like he needs someone like Yaya behind him. WBs dont look nearly as attacking as Chelseas but playing a tough opponent so difference priority Id imagine.

guys, currently my team reads as per below, and i have 0.5 in the bank that i am saving for the 'little pea' after observation and awaiting GW3...I just need a suggestion on whether to go with the current team, or swap 6.0(either ritchie, knockeart, Lingard or Stanislas)+Jesus with KDB+Gayle...with the current setup, i will need to swap Austin for Chicha, which I am reluctant to do currently due to SOU amazing fixtures...thoughts??

    GK: DDG/Elliott
    DEF: Trippier/Cedric/Daniels/Mee/4.0
    MID: Alli/Salah/Phillips/Willian/6.0
    ST: Lukaku/Jesus/Austin

Appreciate the updates on City game, any thoughts on lineup? Looking at whether KDB or Lukaku ends up making final cut. Here is current lineup:

    Starters:
    Foster
    Trippier, Cedric, Kompany
Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Dele Alli, KDB, Willian
    Kane, Rooney

    Bench: Fabianski, Dunk, Hunemeir, Fletcher
