Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football as our brand new partner game for the 2017/18 season.

While this may be a new game to many of you, Yahoo is, of course, a hugely well-known and trusted name. They were also one of the first to pioneer an online Fantasy Football game, with their season-long game one of the most engaging around.

Now Yahoo have returned with a daily Fantasy sports offering that we will be covering throughout the season.

That also means we will be able to present you with some fantastic offers, including a huge free-to-play half-season tournament with over £40,000 in prizes and perhaps even the chance to win £1 million. No, really. More on that later this week.

Yahoo are also providing a superb introductory offer for our visitors whereby, if you deposit £5, you’ll get a free £50 credited to your account. See the foot of this article for details on how to sign up and get started.

What is Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football?

If you’ve played any daily Fantasy Football or “DFS” games before, you will be instantly familiar with the concept of the Yahoo game.

You have £200 million to build a team of 11 players that you can enter in a variety of contests that are either free to play or have an entry fee with cash prizes on offer.

Each player has a value assigned which changes week-to-week based on their performance and popularity in the previous Gameweek.

The scoring system is more detailed than both Fantasy Premier League and Sky Sports – but that’s a good thing. Based on Opta data, the scoring brings a wider range of players into the mix, including those often-neglected defensive midfielders.

We will have an in-depth article, examining the nuances of the scoring system, very soon.

Yahoo’s contests allow you to tinker with your line-ups right up until kick-off, so you can monitor teamsheets and use the “late swap” feature to swoop for bargains and remove absent players.

Week to week, we will be bringing you our Yahoo Focus articles to help steer the nucleus of your XI for the weekend contests.

Why Should I play?

While so much of the Yahoo game is familiar and easy to grasp, it’s very different in a number of key ways – not least because it is very friendly for new players.

The game operates a “Fair Play” policy, with many of their contests allowing just a single-team entry, while others allow only up to ten teams per user. This levels the playing field and increases the chances that new players can compete for prizes.

There are also “no veterans” or “rookie only” contests which allow you to play and learn the game before taking on experienced managers in bigger contests. However, if you become a seasoned player, you can, of course, take part in contests that allow 50+ teams.

As mentioned, the scoring system is also finely balanced and perfectly suited to our visitors.

We are all familiar with Opta data and, if you’ve got yourself a Fantasy Football scout membership, you already have access to statistics and tools to help you select teams in the Yahoo game. We’re even building custom tables and will be implementing player prices into those tables in the coming weeks.

The Yahoo game is also fully localised for a UK audience. That may sound like a small thing but, with other daily games talking in dollars and asking you to build “rosters”, it’s nonetheless a welcome touch.

The other main reason to play is that the game has a huge range of contests for all players. There are free-to-play games, contests with entry fees as small as 25p right up to £1,000 for the high rollers.

You can register now and compete in the Gameweek 1 £10k contest that offers a £2k top prize for a £5 entry fee.

How Do I Start?

Yahoo’s Gameweek 1 contests are up and running so you can register an account and get started immediately.

As mentioned, if you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used in-game.

  • Register here
  • Deposit £5 or more and use the code FANTASY50 to claim your £50 credit
  • Choose a contest and start selecting your first Yahoo squad.

Later this week we will bring you news of the huge Fantasy Football Scout Yahoo Cup contest, which is free to play and with £50k in prizes.

Look out for details of that and further articles on the Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football game to come before August 11.

You must be over 18 years of age, resident in the UK, and of legal capacity to register with Yahoo Daily Sports and open an Account. If you sign up, please always play responsibly.

Stones has competition from Otamendi does he?

How much have they featured in preseason? Are we clear on who will partner Kompany?

Rangel is a price fall waiting to happen with high ownership and low probability of playing, so it might be a good idea to find another 4.0 defender.

To your question: If I felt confident Austin would start most weeks, he would easily be my third forward from the start. Chicharito’s game time is probably more guaranteed. I’ve chosen Defoe as my third striker, but I’m risking going Kane-less from the start to afford him.

      1. DaddyPig
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

I agree, Austin just isn't nailed enough is he. Defoe will score well as he always has, but Kane is too good to go without. But I'm a Spurs fan so slightly bias.
        Good luck!

        1. Mick J
          • 10 Years

I’ve chosen an expensive defence with Alonso, Kolasinac and de Gea between the sticks, wanted to have both de Bruyne and Mané in the midfield and, as mentioned, Defoe as my third striker—he should do even better than last year being in a much better side, so I had to downgrade Kane to Jesus.

Going Spurs-less is my biggest worry, and I know that may force an early wildcard. Let’s see. But as football fan I hope Spurs will have a great season!

Defoe will highly likely get more points than Yoshida.

There will not be much separating Bailly and Valencia. I think the former will get more game time, but the latter will get more attacking points.

And since I’m not so sure Kane will score that much more than Jesus, despite being rotated less, I will go for option A.

      1. LONG LIVE ZOLA
        • 10 Years

I feel that Kane would score the bulk of the points for option B but option A is much more well rounded with Jesus and Defoe.

      vs
Zaha + Jesus with a better first sub.

I’m leaning towards the latter option, but that’s assuming Jesus will play most games.

Well I'd been reading that he's on all set pieces for Newcastle, so that's a major bonus yes, he'd replace one of Zaha or Willian, freeing up an extra £1m for defence

Promoted clubs usually do well in GW1 with a home fixture, even though it's against strong opposition, I think with both of those players anything from a 2 to a 10 is possible

True, but there's plenty of examples of players having a difficult debut prem season but coming back and doing well. I'm not expecting a Mahrez season from him, just thinking 6m, on all set pieces, for a traditionally attacking team, could be good value

You're not going to get much more for 6m. He's on free kicks, pens, and Rafa loves him so he's nailed. He was also great in the Championship and pretty much single handed dragged Newcastle over the line to the promotion.

      1. HamezMace
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

Exactly, as detailed above, he's 6m for a reason, not expecting double digits every week, but for the reason given I think he's a strong option.

        For example,

Zaha to Ritchie allows Foster to DDG, or Kolasinac to Alonso

Good evening all ...... my first RMT this year.

Last year my first RMT got slated .... hope this lot is better 🙂

    DDG (Elliott)

    Alonso, Trippier, Betrand, Daniels (Hunemeier)

    Alli, Fabregas, Zaha, Willian (Mesa)

    Kane, Lukaku (Gayle)

    1. GE
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

Fabregas and Willian too much IMO. Would only have one of them. And Wouldn't have Gayle if on bench.

      Maybe Gayle -> 4.5 and upgrade Fabregas/Willian -> Salah?

Gayle only on the bench for week 1.

My team is 2M over budget since I upgraded Gayle from a 4.5M striker. I need to find 2M from somewhere (Alonso seems the easiest way) or else revert back to 4.5 striker.

Too many transfers waiting to happen in my eyes.....

Daniels had fixtures after GW1 and GW2, so I'd rather have a rotating 4.5 pair (Francis/Suttner aren't too bad).

Fab and Willian aren't nailed forever, so that's two short term fixes with terrible fixtures.

      Mesa to Caroll.

Gayle to Quaner and one of fab/Willian to Salah/Coutinho would be a start.
